I agree with her statement, I like Philippine English, easily understood by other Asians and has a more respectful tone. While American English (my opinion) comes out too blunt and arrogant. It can be easily changes to the way the American style accent but to regular Filipinos it is more posh.

But when I moved to USA.. they don’t care about grammar or accent.. they just want to understand what you are saying even with the broken English. Not unless you want yo be a writer/ journalist.. then you must have the proper grammar

    • @ronberi7773
      @ronberi7773 Před 3 lety +11

      As a Filipino, I can say that I agree that better grammar is better than perfect accent. But it depends on where you are and who the people you are talking to. If you are inside Korea, good grammar is good. But if you will go to the US and speak English with heavy Korean accent, American people will find it hard to understand you. They may also look down to you and might even tell you bad things. Bottom line, speaking good grammar and perfect accent depends on where you are and who the people you are talking to.

      We may speak English fluently, but speaking purely in our national language, Tagalog, is slowly beginning to fade. The Filipino language is more of a combination of Spanish, English, and Tagalog. There will be a time when speaking in pure Tagalog will be heard only at cultural events. That is the sad reality of our national language today. Because the average age of Filipinos is between 25 and 30, most of us are millennials. We are influenced by social media and different cultures, especially western ones, so speaking in English is just normal for us. Sometimes the babies learn their first word in English.

    Well I'm a Filipino-Spanish and currently living here in the Philippines since when I was in High school and I could say that! Filipino has the best accent in English because you'll understand 'em clearly because when they started to speak English they don't talk fast and they deliver it well and their grammars are actually impressive and on point (well a bit sad because in the Philippines having a poor English is kinda like a "weakness" for them not the term but I think that's a good way to say) compared to other countries like for example in UK English (British) they don't call it or say it those words directly because I used to live there for months and for me it was a bit hard to communicate with them (well their language is English but what I'm pointing out here is about those vocabularies of them) because one time I asked my British friend to go in my apartment but he was just like "what? You mean to your flat?" And also the "Comfort room" they call it toilet knowing the toilet is in the comfort room or cr (in the Philippines)
    Edit: DISCLAIMER! I'm not saying that Uk English is bad but maybe because it's kinda like "old version" of english (well English was found in the Uk) so maybe yup it's kinda like old fashioned way of their speaking. And!!!! I do really love their accent! I love to do it tbh lol.

    As someone who lives in a specific region in the Philippines, it was already compulsory to be trilingual so I might be completely biased when I say a Filipino-English accent is very well spoken. That said, I will just provide minor explanations. I could talk about everything but I dont have time.
    Languages such as Japanese and Korean limits the ability to pronounce hard R's correctly together with the need to end a stand-alone consonant with an "eu" vowel sound. Languages such as Scottish and French deliver english in a way that can fumble up syllables that feature double consonants such as "sh" and "ch" and I find the intonations to be messy at some points. Languages such as Indian and Spanish have this specific tone when pronunciating vowels or vowel sounds that I find distracting.

We Filipinos are versatile english speakers.. We can do british, american, australian, indian, italian, south african, korean accent just name it lol because Filipinos are multi-talented .. from singers, actors, beuty titlist, and to any occupation from nurses, caregivers and so on that is why foteigners love to hire Filipinos because of good communication skills and hard work and dedication to one's work/job!

I prefer the American version of English since I’ve been exposed to it so much in media, etc. Canadian English sounds similar to me so I like it very much. The reason why I don’t like the British version is because it sounds so preppy and royal. It’s probably the most correct version but it doesn’t sound like you could use it in an everyday situation. I mean, daddy is an American accent and mummy is a British accent. So I am like that little child that has to choose between his kind and beautiful mother and reasonable but strict father. So for my liking British accent sounds more sophisticated and beautiful, whereas the American one is just more practical to know because, let's make no bones about it, the American accent is more commonly used all over the world. So my heart with the British accent and my mind with the American one. To cap it all, it would be great to learn them both or at least understand them equally. Speaking of me, I would stick to the American one, not that I like him more, but because it's just more practical and useful. Cheers!

Silent letters for example colour, telephone -the ph sound as - 'f' and there are many others. I am visiting England and got stuck through Covid and they cannot understand my Australian language all the time and I cannot understand all the English variances. So it is more of what region of English do each Country speak. America have regions where they speak with more accents, Australia has an accent for each State and then there are the Aborigines who speak over 140 different languages. England has a different accent for everywhere. So whoever tries to speak English will depend on how the tutor speaks in the first place. Most of the Foreign Countries speak a form of American as they watch American shows, even in Australia if young kids watch too many American shows they speak with an American accent as they hear that more then their own language. In America you either speak fast as Superman says, but you also have areas where they speak very slow with a very accented variation of American - the drawl. So I hope this has helped and not confused you.

      I think all alphabets in most countries are in the russian alphabet. so when they learn to speak another language they quickly learn to speak.

    That’s right I agree with you. Why? American and European English are hard to understand for the other countries, but they easily understand Filipino English accent. It’s akward right but it’s true. Some people think when you have a good accent you’re the best in English but not, It’s how you communicate by interacting other people with clear and understandable communication.
