I’ve been in this trade for 40 years replacing maybe a thousand clutches in that time . Doing some on my back but mostly used a ramp . Totally respect to you doing them on cold damp wet surfaces laying down and kneeling that’s hard work really takes it toll on your body over time. You certainly have my respect Kevin.
Staggering! 40+ years in the trade here and I can't imagine a more difficult way to earn a living. Just the thought of climbing under the car with a 13mm spanner only to find it's 12mm - so you have to climb back out and back in again - would drive me insane! You will never be short of work that's for sure, I guess your overheads are low in comparison to a workshop, but boy you have picked a challenging job. I take my hat off to you.
That was really slick work at the end of a long day. What’s even more impressive is I now realise that your camera work and presentation is technically the best I have seen. Kudos 🙏
Just to add, this shows people that haven't got a clue what goes into changing a clutch the amount of work it takes ! Great vid, you'll be putting Mr Hynes of of business next. Great stuff.
Great work, that's the worst dual mass flywheel failure I've seen! I've seen them completely spin freely on outer face but never fall apart like that! And fair play to you doing it on your back in the cold and on your own! Thanks for the videos
Thank you Sir for taking the time to produce this material. Your mechanical aptitude is clear to all. Your film production is pretty damn good too! Cheers 👍
Great videos to watch when I was younger before I became disabled I worked on mostly unemployed peoples cars in my spare time from work getting wet and cold laying alone under someone's car your work brought some great memories keep posting your content on these is great regards
Great job you are doing there! I've been watching your videos for a while now. Apart from the fact that huge respect for doing this in the rain, freezing outside or getting blown away by wind I never understood how can you just lift a transmission to it's place like it would be like 2 kilos. I've had some jobs like this, but putting back the transmission has been a nightmare every time! I'm happy I saw that it was exhausting for you today also, because I was starting to feel anxious since it looked so easy :)
Hi Kevin, Total respect to you working in those very cold conditions on the floor removing the gearbox to replace the clutch. I won't moan, now to the boss when the shutter doors are open in the garage I work at.
Got to hand it to you your quality of workmanship is second to none i would say you do a far better job on the drive than you get in a workshop even down to cleaning the bell housing top job great video all the best
Another great Video Kevin, nothing seems to phase you in terms of what car it is, personally i wouldn't have the bottle to tackle a job this size on jag. Wow! The clutch certainty needed replacing i couldn't believe it when it just dropped out. Thanks again Kev for bringing your great skills and sharing with us all. Kind regards Jay
Hello mate, just had to say I sit here for hours watching your videos mate, you are defo proffesinal in what you do,the preparation has methodical set up of the tools, respect mate
I was like you now i am 76 years although we fixed gerarbox and clutches on trucks at the customers in the middle of the night and very bad weather,we did not think of anyt thinks else but tkat it should be done and the customer is satisfied . You have all my respect Kevin
Now you have shown me how to do it- and I could...but I wont. Sod that. Once you have started the car is out of action and its a long old slog for your first time TBH. I've had enough of misaligned splines, broken and stuck spigot bearings and the bloody weight of the gear. Great to watch you did it though! As have everyone has mentioned , very well filmed and edited and was good to see my questions answered by your actions without any words. You have my respect and admiration too. Ty
Excellent work Kev, I know the camera work was great, along with the lighting because it is not easy and gets in the way a lot. Hats off to you doing it very methodical with care right where you need it. loved it when the clutch fell out, hope you are OK :-)
It's a hard work, conditions are rough, and you take the time to make videos... Respect ! And this video work is useful, I have to replace my flywheel/clutch, your procedure is faster and lighter than Jaguar's one, w/o dropping the lower frame : Thank you !
Some people have a natural affinity with metal - to know when to hit something, how hard and where - without damaging the bolts and nuts. You Sir have great skill and knowledge and it is great to see a craftsman at work. It proves to my children and grandchildren that hard work does pay off. Well done!
Paul you are absolutely correct. The right amount of force in the correct place. You can hit a few cm’s out and the metal will not separate. We all have our affinity very true. 🍻🍻🍻
Fantastic job! Respect and kudos to you.I used to do clutches in the 1980's - much, much simpler cars to work on. No way I could do that, now. I've got an x-type, if the clutch goes, it's going to the scrapyard.
Hi Kevin like everyone else I have the up most respect for you and the work you do. So I'd like to say thank you for these video uploads you do theyre fantastic and very informative. I have Jaguar X type 2.2d and I did the clutch myself plus changed the sump and rear crankshaft seal, like you I did this on my back. @@WMCS it really helped. I've done loads of clutch's over the years but not on the X type so always good to learn something new. Just thought while I was under there I'd sort out the oil leaks just got a small one left to sort which is the timing chain cover. I did get that horrible problem though that the captive nuts spun round but overcame that problem. Hey ho we live and learn. Anyway I'm waffling on again many thanks really appreciate it 😊
@@WMCS I didn't want to cut into the car so I looked online. I found on a Jaguar forum a guy who had got a long 21mm ring spanner and bent it into shape. The idea is you slot the spanner up through the hole that's behind the 2 13mm on the support bracket to the subframe and guide it onto the captive nut if that makes sense. So I fashioned one myself with great effort lol 😂 got there in the end, not as good as the guys from the forum site but it worked. With a bit off fiddling around manage to get it on the captive nut and bobs your uncle. I intend to keep the Jag for a while and I want to keep the maintenance up it. I'll try and find the post on the forum site and post it on here

Great job my friend! I have done a lot of things to my X-type, but never did such complicated ones. This video is twice as respectable, because the clutch was replaced in a winter cold weather and everything was taken on the camera. Special respect to your cameraman! Ages ago, when I was younger and more ambitious, I also changed a clutch on a FWD car in winter frost, but that car was far less sophisticated than a Jaguar. I was keeping the fire burning during two or three days, while I was removing and installing the clutch. You reminded me of my best times! Pardon my comment, I don't want to somehow offend you, but the only thing I would do in a different manner in your video, I wouldn't press on the suspension arm so bravely so that to prevent the arm bush from leakage (it contains fluid). I would first lower the subframe, since you had to lower it anyway. But you managed to avoid this trouble, that's why it doesn't matter much in your case.
