Their pro level saws are incredible. The old stuff is all designed and made in Germany and it is obvious when you start getting into them. The designs and choices they made back then were all about providing the best product money could buy. They still make decent stuff, but it doesn't have the same quality feel as the older Zero series, and the newer "greener" engines aren't the same. I don't care about fuel economy and how much cleaner it is. I want a nasty ass big power saw that will drive a 40" bar through rock maple and oak trees and get me home and hour earlier. The newer stuff is like Stihl Light....lol...still leaps and bounds better than the other offerings. If you haven't tried a pro level Stihl machine, you really need to.

Hook up a pulse jet engine. (How???) It's a steady stream of explosions. I have never heard anything as violently loud. No wonder the psychological effects was greater than the explosive in WWII.

@@theclubhouse1209 Yeah I repair jet engines for a living and I don't watch him because he comes off as super condescending. Some people never learn how to teach without degrading, which is unfortunate when they really do have a lot of knowledge that might be valuable to people.
If that was a practical thing it would have been done already. These turbines are not new at all. They’ve been around for over 30 years and the turbo shaft and turboprop versions have been around for at least 15.

Just a nerdy FYI, gas powered chainsaws vibrate on purpose to add a little bite the cutting action, there's a long winded explanation but the bottom line is "Vibration" is a "Good Thing" when it comes to chainsaws :-) Even some electric chainsaws have an eccentric weight ("Vibrator") added to the output shaft to help the chain teeth bite into the wood.

Always believed in a sharp chain, and let it do the work ! Never heard of the "vibration" approach before, sorry !

The reason why was not revealed until they used a high speed camera. The pulsating of the rear wheel helps it regain traction rather than continue to spin. Regardless, electric is most likely the future of chainsawing, even for pros. It should be possible to build a motor with pulsating power delivery without just adding a vibrating weight to the shaft, if that is found to be necessary.

Got a good hand warmer in the winter. We used to dry our sleeping bags and other gear, along with heating up MREs on the back of the Abrams tanks. Yes, we lit the fire on a turbine engine just to cook food and dry stuff on the exhaust......
Runs about like the cheap entry level saws that Stihl unfortunately has to sell. Kid you not, I walked into a family run large hardware chain that features a large Stihl equipment display, asked for the $350 and up range saws to buy right now. They told me I couldn't have one until they started it up in front of me. 15 minutes and 2 saws later, neither worked, and I quietly told them I had to be going now.
As a Stihl qualified mechanic and as someone who has built a miniature jet engine for model aircraft at home on my lathe...This saw is awesome, why didn't I think of that! 😀🇦🇺
Hey Juan ! Have been an outdoor power equipment dealer for over 18 years, and can't tell you how many customers struggle with ethanol gummed up carburetors ! So nothing new here ! I would think air filtration would be a challenge to keep up with the air demands of the jet and not lose performance...fun idea and concept though, maybe a leaf blower and weed wacker model next just to round out the series! This would have been right up Tim Taylor's alley back in the day!

The Rover car group actually trialled a road going jet engine car back in the 60/70's here in the UK but never got past that.I think this saw is pretty cool.You can take a turbo charger and with a bit of fettling turn it into a jet engine.Seen it done.

i remember Eli (RIP) of the flyboyz many many years ago strapping a couple of those to a bicycle and running it up and down the runway at Perris Valley Airport. it also took days for the smell to vacate the bar too. miss you Eli, the sport is rather tame without you.

And Stihl's are impeccably balanced. Never mind then.

Easier for hearing protection to block that high-frequency whine from the turbine compared to the loud buzz from the 2-stroke engine, though...

Restart procedure:
1. Fling it in the air.
2. Cross fingers and hope.
3. Don't be still standing there when it lands.
Do not attempt unless at least 40 feet up the tree.
That's where the jet powered leaf blower comes in...patent pending.

For the leaf blower - you start with a blower sized tube, get a turbine with a high bypass fan like jets, mount the turbine axially in the tube.

Husqvarna. Especially in the cold. Stihls don't like the cold.
