    What do you think of this new Grand Cherokee L? It's full of LED lighting and the ambient light/night vision is a nice touch.

    It is insane how far Jeep has come from their humble beginnings. It is also fascinating that buyers of Jeeps are so loyal to the brand that they would purchase one of these over a Range Rover.

      That's exactly why Jeep brought out the Wagoneers which top out at $110k and have continued to upscale the GCs now into the Reserve model territory. They have very deep-pocketed devotees they want to tap into in higher priced brackets.

    The lights are epic. They have the best width I have ever seen on an SUV. Their positioning on the grill makes it easier to see way into the ditches. When you switch the fog lights on, it becomes a cherry on top

    Good night review video on the exterior and interior lights for this new generation fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Jeep did a great job by having all lights LED as standard across all the six trim levels available. The headlights are good for the low beam and high beams. The approach lights are good as well. Nice placement for those lights on the mirrors and door handles. I assume those lights are on the Overland trim or higher. I'm glad the Overland trim is the one being reviewed in this video because that's the trim level I'll get for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Also, glad the one in this video is the one with the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. I'll get that for mine as well. The outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee has two lift gate lights, but this fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L made an improvement by having them LED. It's also good that the cargo area itself has lighting now. My only gripe about that is its only on the left side. Jeep should've placed a lighting unit for the cargo area on the right side as well. If there was a lighting unit on the right side the overall lumination back there would've been perfect and definitely class leading. As we all know all auto manufacturers like to make touch up improvements here and there during the next year model year or the following year model year within the same generation. With that being said maybe the model year for next year or the model year for the year after might have a light fixture on the right side in the cargo area as well. Let's see what happens when the time comes.

  • @RL-xu9so

    I do like the lights. My only personal issue is with the rear lights and the turn signals being the same as the brake lights. I was in an accident with my 2018 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and my car was dead in the middle of the road. With my hazards on, i still almost got rear ended a number of times as I waited for the police to arrive. It scared me enough to look into how to change the turn signals/hazard lights. i found a european software which allows me to reprogram the computer so that the outer lower lights are now the turn signals and the brake lights stay the brake lights. I dont know why the North American model has 4 reverse lights which seems a little redundant. So I put two bright LED lights in the inner lower reverse lights and two amber led bulbs in the outer. I was hoping that with how other cars somehow have amber turn signals in teh same unit as the brake light (even the regular cherokee has this, I believe). I'm sure the European model of this Jeep will have the amber turn signals bc from what I've read, that is one of the regulations for cars to have over there.
    I also like the idea of a totally separate, independent light as the DRL instead of the low beams acting as both DRL and low beam. Doesn't it affect the length of the light life by being on all the time? I love the LED DRLs on the WK/WK2s.
    How do you feel these, what look like reflective housing (am I right?), compare to projector type lenses?

  • @JL11414
    @JL11414 Před 2 lety

    Just picked up a JGC-L Limited yesterday. Why are the daytime running lights acting as the low beams for night driving? Why don’t the amber parking lights act as the daytime running lights? It doesn’t make any sense to me. People have been flashing me because the headlights stay on. I know there’s an option to turn it off, but I prefer to have some kind of DRL’s on.

    I still think the Telluride beats it. Even at $66k. If I was going to spend that money, personally I'd get a new Tahoe. I think Stellantis is going in the wrong direction. People (Americans) are brand snobs. If they took actual consideration at other brands, Jeep would be in Trouble.

    It's unfortunate that the rear turn signals are red. The Cherokee has switch backs which allow red for the brake light and amber for the turn signal. It's not ideal since the brake and the turn are the same element, but at least the amber contrast is still there.

    love to see a comparison between the v6 and v8 driving dynamics! Doesn't look like many v8's are hitting dealerships. Not sure if it's a demand shortage thing, chip shortage or what but most GCL's available are v6 options!

      The v8 is a little over a $3,000 option and you get about 4mpg less in the city and highway. The v8 just doesn’t make sense for the majority of buyers.

      @@TCX-up6hs Good call, I think for the Overland and Summit trims in the 60k-70k price range the v8 should have been standard at that price point especially when virtually every review I've watched has said the v6 is merely adequate. Most reviewers said they would spring for the v8. The Telluride sounds like it has about the same power output with it's v6 but it's not reaching mid to high 60k's! I know the Jeep offers many cool features but you'll pay extra for them. Pity Jeep didn't have a more fuel efficient turbo or super charged v6 standard on the higher trims.

      Friend works for Stellantis. He helped engineer this... He said V8's only counted for 5% of sales.

      @@matty1053 5% wow that's not many on the market. I wonder how reliable the air suspension is on the higher trims?
