    It’s been a dream of mine to go see eurovision live for 19 YEARS (I’m 26 so that’s practically my whole life), and when I finally did this year, it was better than anything I expected! Especially because people there take this very seriously and everyone is a eurovision lover from the heart.
    The things I was most surprised at:
    1-When the artists first come out during postcards, crowd goes the wildest. So when you watch the stream, you miss the loudest part actually.
    2- It’s really fast, and actually the crew come and kind of push everyone on stage once the camera goes off, because the people on stage don’t really know when it happens.
    3-During some songs (like switzerland this year) the screens at the top of the arena says: PHONE LIGHTS ON
    4-This may be about 2022 specifically, but we actually saw almost all of the show, even the parts with green screen / gimmicks.
    So I hope everyone who dreams to be at Eurovision one day, can. Because it really is better than expected, doesn‘t matter what you expect. And it's all thanks to he people!

    Maybe it’s because I have friends that work in theater and television, but wow is there a lot of moving parts to make this show happen so seamlessly! Here people were complaining about the multidimensional sun thing being a problem and I’m watching this video and seeing various other types of intricate light set ups that are being used, some being brought down from the ceiling, along with the soundware, the continuous waterfall, the various cameras and gear, the stage hands moving in and out of hidden doors in the LED wall, etc, etc, etc and my only thought is “Wow! It’s really amazing more didn’t have problems!” And to be fair according to the EBU it was just the sun thingy moved too slow (which watching it when it moved versus some of the other pieces they’re using it does appear to be slower). And seeing how fast the stage crew move to get things setup between songs honestly they’d probably have been better at moving it than making it mechanical (but the idea is still neat). It really was a great live show to watch on tv and it looks like they make sure the live audience has quite the experience as well! That’s a lot to put into a tv show that only airs thrice in one week and then it’s done! Very impressive and makes me realize why I consider this the best thing on tv each year! It also all looks very expensive and so I’m starting to understand that line from the opening number of 2016 sung by Petra and Mans: “as we bankrupt the hosting station.” There’s a part of me that thinks the head of Eurovision could sound like the dude from Jurassic Park: “spared no expense.” LOL Also I’ll admit that when watching at home I thought the heart during Mika’s performance was CGI’d in. To see that it was really there I think says two things 1) CGI has really improved since I was younger that my first thought is they did that yet it’s real instead of thinking its real and wondering how they did it and 2) that’s yet another set of small things that could’ve gone wrong but didn’t.
    Thanks for sharing this video! I love seeing the behind the scenes, etc, of things like this. It’s mostly out of curiosity on my part as I just like seeing how the magic is done and all the people that make it happen. Also, you had amazing seats! Were they expensive? I mean seats at that location at a concert here in the US would definitely cost a lot (and you definitely aren’t getting any LED screens/stages and cool moving lights, etc....unless it’s a Kpop concert and only if the venue is capable of supporting it).

      Thank you for the comment. Despite many complaining, especially from The Nederlands and The Nordics, the production, despite a few mistakes, was good. There has been an enormous effort from RAI to make a world level production. Mistakes can happen. The heart was real. It was an inflated baloon hidden into a trap on the floor of the secondary front stage. I have seen inflate it and deflate it "live" in the family show of saturday afternoon. It was hard to deflate it and put it back into the trap. They had to lift it again a couple of times in order to store it again to be in the right position for the evening show. Despite all this, it was seamless for the TV audience, until it was shown. One strange thing is why the kept the side with the big M of Mika opposite to the audience. I don't understand. Regarding production, the lights were incredible. 4000 automated spots. The light designer and director of photography, Mario Catapano, is the same of Sanremo Festival. Yes, there were some mistakes from the multicam directors. It's strange because Duccio Forzano has directed the best Sanremos, visually speaking, without faults. Maybe the problem was there was 2 multicam directors for the final working together, and sometimes having two giving orders is not good. Additionally the cameramen crew was mixed italian and ukrainian (for the special cameras) and the two directors were mainly speaking italian to the cameramen, and in english to the Ukrainian ones, when needed. But, compared to the infamous 1991, RAI has put all efforts to create a wonderful show and TV production. The biggest and more complex TV production (with the except of sport events) ever organized in Italy by RAI. You can understand the enormous difficulty and complexity of such a show only by watching it live in the arena, while most of the critical comments come from people sitting on the couch at home. Seing it live makes you thing it's a miracle to have a show without faults or defects, considering its complexity, the hundreds of people who have to interact to make it work, running on the stage, moving cameras and props. The stage was big and the steadycamers had to run like crazy to escape after each shot, carrying 40 kg of gear.

    • @LightJockey
      @LightJockey Před rokem +6

      @@PowerSpirit50 it's a long story 😂but basically the big dark semicircle in the center of the stage was supposed to represent the sun, the stage is the land and the waterfall rapresents the many seas that surround Italy. This was how the stage was conceptualized. The sun would've been the "big thing" because it was supposed to morph during each act. It was composed of 7 rotating concentric rings each independent of each other that would rotate 180 degrees to show one side, or every configuration in-between. On one side (the one that we got) there were plain lights, on the other there were LEDs that acted like another ledwall. This way each delegation could choose what to have, maybe lights for more upbeat songs and the ledwall for when showing visuals was more important, or even a change mid act so you could have both. Unfortunately when rehearsals started rumors spread about the rotating mechanism being "broken" and "unfixable in time for the shows", and that a decision was made to keep it fixed for all acts on the lights side. It would only partially rotate during interval acts in order to not break it further, and you can see it in action at 28:25. Delegations got comprehensibly upset because the ones that relied on the rotation had to change their staging with very little notice. Unfortunately we never got an official statement on what happened exactly so there's been speculation that it was never broken in the first place but just slow to turn, and that the EBU forced Rai to keep it still because having to wait 2 minuted between each stage change was simply too much time. Now, if that's the case then it's just mind boggling to me how this whole thing was handled. Didn't Rai know the postcards were only 45 seconds long? Were they hoping the EBU would allow them to get longer? Was this whole thing badly engineered and they tried to cover it up till the last minute? Who knows. It probably didn't influence much of the shows in the end, but the sad thing is that people who watched on TV and didn't follow all the drama had no idea about what that thing was supposed to be, they probably thought it was intentional to make all acts dark with no ledwall and such. I've even heard some people saying they thought it was a big vinyl 😂

      You are right, I was so happy to have managed to get tickets for the first row of seats but once there I was a little disappointed to see that the stage floor was almost higher than the first rows. The crane was not always in the way but very annoying at times. Not a completely bad view but just a few rows higher (for the same price!) would have been so much better. Also, only the last sector on either side near the stage was in Cat2. I was lucky to be on its very edge, but people just a meter to my right paid a lot more for basically the same view since from there all the way around it was considered Cat1. It was worse at the front of the venue as those in the lower rows had most of their view blocked from the green room. It felt like the seating plan was the default one for other small events in the venue. These spots should have been definitely sold as limited visibility for cheaper prices. It was an amazing experience anyway but a bit more attention from the organizers wouldn't have hurt.

      Because during that act everybody was expecting Måneskin. But they didn’t come to the rehearsal in the afternoon. So everybody (yes me too, i was there) started booing because we were disapointed not to see Måneskin perform.

      As all the Eurovisions from 2017. The Opertec company from Kyiv provides special cameras like spidercam, technocranes and rail cams. Such cameras are all operated remotely and moved by Ukrainians by the same company. All the other normal cameras have been provided by NEP from The Nederlands and Sweden but are operated by italian cameramen from RAI or freelance hired for the ESC only.

      @@---oi5zi well not everything is absolute. a decent song can be disliked, but imo with most things that are valued based on some criteria also have an objective value that could be boosted or lowered by subjective opinion. like i dont like any of taylor swift songs but can admit that most of them are decent from a (pop)musical perspective and wouldn't call them bad.
      like with art there are plenty of paintings you may dislike or feel indifferent but are objectively well made.
      hopefully it made sense, im not very good with words.
