How are the county democratic parties doing in Texas? With 254 (!) counties in your state, that’s a network built right in, even a handful of democrats per precinct (hundreds of precincts within each county) could flip districts, not just on the congressional level, but on every part of the ballot, including state legislature seats. I used to live in a very red district. In my opinion, red districts suffer from two important things: Dems living in those districts that think their vote doesn’t count, so they don’t vote, much less don’t vote whole ballot (when one vote per precinct can flip a district - it’s not like our presidential vote, which is commandeered by the EC). And, democrats don’t step up to run in every single seat - likely because they think no one will vote for them. If we all agree that repugs win, especially when Dems and left leaning unaffiliateds don’t vote whole ballot, or vote at all - in fact, repugs RELY on us not voting! - it stands to reason that seemingly “small” seats, like at the county or state legislative level, could be flipped, drawing out engagement from folks that no one reports on. And Texas is a massive state, with more opportunities for representation than any state. Texas used to be blue. Did all that common sense governing die with Ann Richards? It’s still there somewhere, it just has to be drawn out, and it starts at the local, neighborhood level.

And, yes, I needed a medical termination for a non-viable pregnancy in my 30's. I am horrified that other women in the same situation cannot get the same medical treatment I did, not only in their own state, but also may not be able to "escape" to a bordering state. How ridiculous and horrifying! I have many friends and even family there, but I'll never be returning permanently. Thanks for sharing the mission of AVOW!

After living in TX for 15 years in the 80's-90's , I moved to CA. (Not even the fancy part of CA, just the Central Valley) Many times during that first year in CA, I caught myself thinking "These people are SO SMART!" It was just random encounters at the gas pump, grocery store, etc.
I brought this up on a CZcams video when I first heard about Texas's abortion laws. At that time, I said what are they going to do stop all women of reproductive age on the road and make them take pregnancy tests? Apparently, that's what they're going to do. 😡
