I think that Playa del Carmen is pretty spendy.... We are in a little town just outside of Oaxaca City and a cab ride is 50 pesos locally in el Tule and like 100 pesos to go into centro.

@@robertoperez453 Too bad "The greatest Administration in Mexico in Modern Times" has not dented corruption or poverty. In fact, Mexico remains a country with no legal or law enforcement system. Every day, the drug traffickers take more and more of Mexico's territory for themselves and AMLO doesn't care. He wouldn't send the GN to Tabasco, even though the people were asking the federal government to provide them with safety, because 'drug dealers are people, too' (his quote). Of course, AMLO has plenty of GN to guard the Tren Maya, the monument he built to himself, but he pulled the GN out of Guerrero because his narco bosses told him to.

Well now....no. The trains are not running full speed just yet. It takes a little time off the travel BUT not really. The location of the train is not convenient. I would still prefer to take the ADO bus. It GOES into Merida and starts in Central Cancun. As for the train it's outside of Cancun and it doesn't stop in Merida really it stops outside of Merida. For the experience yes but know its not really the best way to get from Cancun to Merida.

Wow!!! What amazing news Trish. Thank you.
I have been to Cancun twice, last time was 6 yrs ago n I vowed never to visit again.
I’m Hispanic so I can communicate well there, however, arriving at that Cancun airport was always a nightmare. Everyone coming at you, selling it scamming, so much confusion outside to grab a cab. So 2nd time there, I hired a private charter to take us back n forth btwn resort n airport. Going was great but on way back, they never picked us up😮, so our resort hooked us up either a taxi.
Wish there were reliable, honest, n economical ( no hackling) taxi drivers that come highly recommended for airport. N touring around.
Anyway, I never made it to Playa Del Carmen, cause it’s lots of high prices n scams there too.
Taking ADO n then taxis to get somewhere sounds daunting to me.
This train is a huge improvement, and I’m so excited about it, if only I didn’t have to fly into that Cancun airport.
Would line to add that I heard that at the airport, customs is writing in your return dates, so ur plans may have to change on the spot, and if you miss the date, you can be arrested. Is this true?
    How scary is that!!

Sadly, the Tren Maya was constructed largely for political reasons and its real impact for Mexico will never be realized as long as Mexican politicians from all political parties remain corrupt and do not deal with Mexico's core pressing issues, i.e., poverty, crime, corruption, lack of social programs, poor public education, no effective legal system, etc. These issues are getting worse, not better, and organized crime is taking effective control of more and more of Mexico. A reason exists to explain why the Tren Maya has so many Guardia National officers assigned to police it. Without that level of security, the trains would be blockaded regularly by locals, held hostage by organized crime, and pillaged for construction materials.

    • @samsongomah1318
      @samsongomah1318 Před 3 měsíci

Too bad "Exelent Presidente AMLO" has not dented corruption or poverty. Mexico under AMLO = crime, corruption, and poverty. How many ex-PRI in Morena made money off the sole-source contracts to build the Tren Maya? I am sure a few new houses got built in Polanco with the corruption from the construction of Tren Maya.

Don't uninformed people, one of the other train that you said that the other government did not finished and it's still under construction is because the current government just don't want to finish it, because politics, the other one is the Line 3 of Guadalajara light rail train, it was built during the Presidency of Peña Nieto, and is very modern elevated and subway train that now enjoy many inhabitants of Guadalajara metro area, and another train projects in that time was cancelled because the price of the petroleum barrel dropped to historical lows, and that caused many good proyects of the anterior president had to be cancel or delayed.

If you walk out from the Playa del Carmen beach area 3 blocks inland, to 20th Avenue, you can hail a taxi and it will be far less expensive. More like 100 or 110 pesos from there to the Tren Maya station, instead of $400. Also, I live in Jardines de Mayakoba and when leaving the Quinta Avenida area I always walk three blocks inland to Avenida 20 and hail a taxi to Guadalupana (adjacent to Jardines de Mayakoba) for 80 pesos. Same concept works in the other direction. I bike from home to Guadalupana, lock the bike to a palm tree, and hail a taxi. If I ask to go to almost anywhere on Quinta Avenida it's $150. However If I ask to go to say, anywhere on 20th avenue, it's $80. However if it's not raining or scorching hot, I'll take a combi each way for $10 pesos. That requires one extra block of walking. Combis stop all along Avenida 30.

Nope, the environmental cost of this Maya train has been a lot. You can't compare train projects. The train from Toluca to CDMX was a project that the previous president left at 90% completion, the current president stop the funding and slow the train completion and not only that Claudia and Lopez decided to change the train route which affected the environment and had negative social economic impact on the inhabitants of those areas. So the current prez could not finish remaining 10% of the Toluca train in 6 years, Now it operates partially but it doesn't arrive into the CDMX. Incapable admin to finish projects.
This train Maya and in fact all the three big projects (The airport Felipe Angeles, the refinery of dos bocas and the maya train) of this administration have been with a lot of controversy for instance the budgets for these three projects has deemed a national secret projects for the next 10 years. Why? because they don't want to disclose the real cost of these projects because they cost twice or more times what they had budgeted for. With this national secret designation they shut down the 100s of environmental and budgeting related lawsuits.
Besides of the negative environmental and economic issues of these projects their viability is a huge question. Finally, as an engineer the velocity of train brings many questions such as the capacity of the soil to bear the weight of the train at high speed, this data is also not disclosed due to the designation given to these projects. In addition, what Lopez is not saying is the national debt increased from 30% of the GDP to almost 70%, Mexico can now not afford to even pay interest. The country in macro economic term is looking like it will suffer the Lopez's decisions for decades to come.
