@@hammerbeam it's technically called Blister packaging. But where its crimped like that on the edges, it's designed so you can't open it quickly in store. Supposedly making harder to steal, apart from the fact that they can be opened quickly with a Stanley knife/tin opener/ scissors/razorblade/anything sharp and pointy. Yeah, so it's just annoying packaging..

Why i don't buy apple products, just saying and also i don't support growing monopolies. At least microsoft doesn't try to make their own sound and music brand as well as computers. They learned with their failure at phones. They just do PC and XBOXX, whereas Apple does phones, earphones, speakers, mp3 players, computers, etc. Case in point for me calling them a growing monopoly.

I bought an Apple eMac and the “titanium box” it came in was just two half boxes taped together with some bubblewrap for one of the most fragile computers ever. There is no excuse for this over packaging.

A few years ago the Kmart in my town closed. During the liquidation sales, they brought out all the junk that's been sitting in their stock room for years. I swear this was one of the items they tried to sell.

Pretty sure they based their packaging off the mould template sitting around at their partner that either had the cheapest quote or the easiest cad file to add their connector shaped imprint thingies to... cheap manufacturing is its own culture beyond just its own industry lmao
The package is bigger to take up more shelf space so you see it and it gives the impression of added value.
The reason it's thick is so it can be set on a shelf or hung on a hanger.
Most importantly it was probably a format or shape the packaging company already had or the equipment was set up for reducing costs of creating a custom one. They probably sold one with a wall charger or power bank or something so no need to make different ones.
I don't even use Apple, why is this channel entertaining to me?

Just figured I'd mention this as I did help design retail packaging at one point in the dim distant past for 3.5" floppies (yes, that long ago), we were required by retailers to make our packages larger than this box, because "loss prevention"... which always seemed silly to me, as if the item is small enough to fit in my pocket, a quick flick with a pocket knife and I have the tiny item...
