- Fathis Ulven was an assassin who had the misfortune to work for the wrong client. He spent over a century imprisoned in the darkest depths of the imperial city dungeons, before being shipped to Morrowind. There he eventually became the archmagister of Great House Telvanni, and the Nerevarine of prophecy - a reincarnation of the ancient war leader of the Dunmer people, Indoril Nerevar. Beneath Red Mountain he slew the devil Dagoth Ur, and took the fabled Heart of Lorkhan, using its divine energies to become a god, just as the Tribunal had done before him. Then, however, things suddenly all went a bit wrong...

A new hand avoids the beacon!
That got a good laugh out of me! I avoid that thing like the plague if I’m not playing a cleric character.
"A new hand tou- Hey! Hey! Come back here!"
The best part about this is it's gonna keep showing up until he takes it. There's a CZcamsr (Private Sessions I think) who kept avoiding it until it started showing up in egg sacks, dressers, everything.
I feel like if Fathis found a daedric dagger he would bloody well keep It
Honestly, I'd say keep the dagger. Fathis is experienced, an ex-master assassin and ex-god. Having his residual skill represented by 20 extra damage from a daedric dagger acquired during a 20 minute fight is more than reasonable. It also just fits the whole "Evil wizard wearing red" aesthetic too well to pass up.
He also definitely had a daedric dagger in the past during the Morrowind playthrough (multiple even)
I feel like that dagger was earned
"A New Hand Touches Th--- Dammit, mortal!"
"I'm just a poor man trying to make a living."
Me: *singing* "HE'S JUST A POOR MAN, TRYING TO MAKE A LIV-ING!"
Watching Dave nope out at the sight of Meridia's beacon was comedy gold. Not to mention highly understandable. Screw. That. Noise.
Theres always Mehrunes Razor, the real best dagger in the game, and other unique/enchanted daggers to get. Also, Ocato's Recital would mean not only could you have Oakflesh (and two other buffs) trigger automatically at the start of combat, but it would also cost 0 magicka
I say you earned that deadric dagger. I also like both the new armors.
Since you keep forgetting oakflesh, try the spell "ocatos recital". It auto-casts up to three self-targeted spells whenever you enter combat for no magicka. It also power levels your alteration skill super hard, since I believe each spell cast contributes to leveling, plus the spell itself activating every time you enter combat. I had three alteration spells assigned to it in my playthrough, and ended up getting alteration at 100 by level thirty. I was playing as a restoration mage too, so it was a little weird that a skill that I didn't use as much ended up higher. Still very useful and I do reccomend.
ol' fathis cuts a surprisingly noble figure in that elven armour and a cloak, although the custom vampire/thief clothes combo also works quite well
I have another tip for you! When loading a save where you're surrounded by enemies (or if you're loading into another area where there are enemies), if you open the console just as the game loads, it'll freeze everything, including the enemies, while the game finishes loading everything in. You will all then have the same fair chance when you close the console.
You know the ex-Justiciar is OP when he forces Inigo to heal after just a couple of hits... 15:21
Ah Strahg. How we love you and your suspiciously well timed comments.
I've got to admit that the elven gauntlets with the vampire armour made me think of marigolds
Silly Dave, trying to poison vampires with bat poison.
I never thought I’d be so addicted to a series until now
Lawl I said that about the Mathis morrowind playthrough. Fathis is just enthralling
I think Fathis looks rather fetching, if not rather intimidating, with that armor on.
Keep the dagger, you defeated the enemy, it's yours now.
I'd keep the daedric dagger as a trophy for now, and only use either in "desperate need" against the kind of enemies that just really take the p, or hold onto it until Fathis has "levelled up", so to speak, and that way there isn't tempation to use it on every enemy at a low level. Like the One Ring, it calls to Fathis to be used. "Wield me against your enemies, Dunmer!" it whispers in his mind.
a counter argument for the Daedric Dagger, if you can have the Bound Dagger at level 1 (a weightless Dagger that has the equivelant stats to an Ebony Dagger with Mystic Binding), I dont see why having a Daedric Dagger now would be a problem
Mostly true, but you can't get the Mystic Binding perk until minimum level 3.
Loving Fathis' continuing adventure! Regarding the daedric dagger, one of the reasons I play Skyrim over and over and over again is for the story that emerges as my character finds some random bit of powerful loot or has a chance meeting with an NPC that changes the course of the game. Given that, I would never leave anything behind, no matter how powerful. Keep the bloody dagger! 🙂
"I'm just a poor man trying to make a living."
Pause... So the Jarl sent Fathis a mob of untrained, concerned, impoverished Morthal citizens armed with torches and pitch-forks to deal with an impending ancient evil; who's servants are highly trained in destruction magic? No wonder Skyrim has domestic policy issues. I have a feeling if possible the former archmagister of Great House Telvanni would later have written a particularly detailed letter to the Jarl's court regarding the lack of preparation, intelligence gathering, and overall execution of this remarkable plan he was forced to go along with.
As for keeping the daedric dagger... who could resist? Least of all the archmagister who accumulated a storehouse of valuables in his private study on Vvardenfell. Will make a nice piece to display along with the story!
Whilst its your story to tell as you please, I feel in my soul that there is no way Fathis would leave a magical gem guarded by powerful vampires alone and not think anything more of it, boring quest or not 😂
I say keep the new gear and use it. I've been rewatching the Idris lp lately and you had similar qualms at the time about his magical robes but getting them ended up being the making of the series in some ways. I know it's different because it's just a bog-standard daedric dagger but still. And imagine the glint Fathis would have had in his eyes as soon as he saw that thing, there's no way he'd get rid of it
You should keep the Daedric dagger. Fathis has earned it. You are likely going to be fighting tougher opponents as you level up and will need the Daedric dagger.
I have to say, the elven armor does give Fathis an air of authority, which I think fits him.
If you're torn about the dagger, just consider that Odyssey of Dragonborn adds so many cool weapons to find that Fathis may want to use in the future that may even be better than a daedric dagger
Meridia's Beacons and Stones of Barenziah - items I completely ignore in playthroughs nowadays
Skyrim really feels like a different game when you've stuck to the roleplay hard enough that you've become vastly underpowered for your level. I've played a pure roleplay build once and I was pushing level thirty with apprentice level spells. This was on legendary, too, so I was struggling for every kill. Your vampire lair fight reminded me of that.
I would've got them out into that spider pit and rained elemental flares down on them from above. Either that or keep my teammates topped up (I was playing a restoration mage)
Dawnbreaker is one of my favorite swords, but no way can Fathis take on the necromancer in that dungeon
Fathis wants the dagger.
Everytime I watch one of Dave's let's plays it dawns on me how much content Skyrim has, it's Neverending in a way that modern games simply aren't.
A new man disregards the beacon
That dagger is quite the prize from this whole ordeal! I hope it grows on Fathis, becomes something unique to him and his character.
Finished work, making some beer and brandy broiled sausages, with sauteed onions to make a nice onion beer gravy, sipping some brandy and see this! Truely a great day!
14:00 Behold the return of Fathis' ancient nemesis... the wooden cart!
A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
The thing about the Daedric Dagger is you can possibly take it, and use it for now since Fathis is a master of knife fighting so you can sort of use it to simulate that until you find either Merunes Razor or even the blade of Woe if Fathis takes it off of Astrid.
You 10 / 10 earned that dagger. (And like, it *could* be improved and even double-enchanted down the line if Fathis wanted to lean into smithing and enchanting...? ) Great episode, always look forward to new Elder Scrolls from you!
That kind of loot is why I installed a mod that limits what you can equip by associated skill level. Fun to get stuff like that to look forward to, later.
kinda makes sense that vampires would be resistant to bat wing poison
Fathis definitely deserves the Daedric Dagger, he fought hard for it (and died multiple times by it) I say keep it and enchant it later on, make the best Dagger ever out of it
and the Armor is a good choice for him too, you won it fair and square and he is squishy so he needs Armor ^^
You won the Daedric Dagger fair and square, keep it.
Just want to say THANK YOU! For good entertainment.
I say keep the dagger. It was earned fair and square.
Daedric dagger for stealth jobs, elven dagger for normal encounters.
I say keep the dagger, you earned it fair and square by fighting above you rank. With the amount of unique items that Legacy of the Dragonborn adds, I'm sure there will be an upgrade to the dagger sooner or later.
You earned that dagger
Also absalutky pickup ocatos recital when next yiur shoping for spells it auto casts 3 self targeted spells (such as oakflesh) at the start of combat for free absalute life saver)
I'm getting flashbacks of my Evil Sorceress playthrough on Twitch, specifically when I tried to take on the vampires at Vile's shrine in Haemar's Shame. Get killed in one hit, but deal _less than one damage_ per hit to the buggers! The master vampire was actually outhealing an entire group's dps with just his basic drain spell! There is very much such a thing as overtuning the difficulty of the game.
That ringmail was solid armor, a shame that it was also ringmail.
THIS is why so many of us have gravitated toward the stealthy archer!! 😜
A daedric dagger, while strong for a dagger, is equivalent in damage to an elven sword. So not really that OP in open combat. If you start assassinating people, however....
I wonder if fathis would have been wary of the Elvin armor with the whole Altmari dominion running around Skyrim. Like it’s probably clear that he has different view of the armor, but he would be aware of the local opinions people might have.
the fight at the beginning is giving me major Shrine in the vivec sewers from the morrowind lp vibes.
Keep the Daedric dagger, you earned the damn thing, so I say use it
Dave finally remembers poison, right as he faces the poison immune undead.
If this was Morrowind I doubt you'd be questioning finding a Daedric Weapon on a particularly obnoxious NPC. Seems like you earned it to me. Besides you'll still die horribly in melee thanks to being so fragile, so I doubt things will suddenly be too easy.
It's also less OP than some of those Creation Club/AE spells you're using.
I feel like Fathis should keep the dagger, you're running into a fair few higher level enemies already. Plus it gives you an "end game" item to save your enchantments for since Fathis isn't much of a smith. So you may still end up with other daggers that are slightly better in your midgame once you have the resources to train up your enchanting.
The thing with the daedric dagger is that is gonna be much harder to upgrade its damage, since gonna require level 100 Smithing, you may be able to match that damage, with upgraded elven, dwarven or Glass daggers. So I think you should keep it, it will be a little OP for now, but in a few levels ahead its gonna be a balanced weapon for Fathis
You left the spell tome with it!
God I love Fathis he is my favorite character ever created lol!
I think the daedric dagger is earned, the elven armor certainly is. The dagger might have a great base damage, but unless Fathis becomes a master enchancter, some artifact dagger will probably surpass it.
You deserve that new armor and the dagger my friend, especially as many times as you got killed. Well let's just say you earned it fair and square and the damn dagger too!! Fight on my friend, FIGHT ON!!! Also I am loving this series so far. It is nice to see someone playing just because they want too. And you have to do that quest with the beacon!! Come on man, I love that sword you get too!
Nice I just finished episode 17 yesterday. Good timing sir.
Are all the high level enemies in this area from the Skyrim Underground Add-on? That's some bonkers balance! If you expect to encounter more situations like this, I certainly wouldn't feel bad about getting a daedric dagger. 😆
Looking forward to the next episode.👍
Tbh, I let out a little ‘ooo’ when I said this episode had been released
Bat wing poisons that do 900 damage? So, I guess Fathis has bottles of Covid-19 to stab unlucky thralls with?
I'm sure Fathis probably would like to keep that dagger for special occasions too. After all, you never know when you'll run into a mod author's named insert character.
But 'tis the rite of passage that all Skyrim players must take! Embrace the beacon!
Lipsand Tarn PTSD lmao
Disengage the Mages armor you have that is 75 percent and enchant the Vampire armor or another you want to where. I mean maybe you could do that later, but I know I go through a bunch of enchanting and potion making at the beginning of my games. Of course I am no master of this game and play it when I can, but that is what I would do. I love this game play and this fight scene. AWESOME SO FAR!
You could always use the daedric dagger as down payment for a house.
I'd keep the dagger, just not in the main loadout. Running around with a daedric dagger might attract the wrong sort of attention, but it's never bad to have the option of having one.
Mi Reckon Fathis would keep the dagger but try to avoid using it regularly lest if get damaged
I say put the dagger away for now. Maybe display it somewhere nice later. Fathis being kitted out really nice is fun, but I do enjoy the struggle of overcoming the challenges
Ah, always a joy to have more Fathis. Edit: I cackled at the ending.
Definitely keep the dagger... though now I wonder what Fathis would look like with a buckler and some form of slender sidesword. I think it would be strangely appropriate, plus as you mentioned yourself, Fathis had a decent long blades skill in Morrowind
Is a vampire with a collection of boots really that weird? i know a Telvanni archmagister that collected slippers and pointy shoes!
You can get that armor in red, you just have to kill a high-level Volikhar Vampire .lol. Low ones usually have unenchanted armor.Vampire Thralls are always strong bandits, presumably the weak ones end up as Vampire Cattle. The one hiding in the back is often either Evil Faendal(looks just like him) or a grizzled Wood Elf with Thalmor hair. They are both SOBs and being Bosmer, resist weak poisons, though probably not you bat wing thing
Considering the other dagger you picked up does 16 base damage + 20 po exints of shock damage aka the same as the dadric dagger you could use it instead since it has a limitation of needing to be recharged
The elven dagger does the same damage as the daedric dagger once you factor in the enchantment without ruining the hope of finding sidegrades/upgrades for sixty levels. Seems like a good compromise between power and interest to me.
Daedric Dagger? Keep it, sharpen it, enchant it. Consider finding another and dual weilding them. Fathis is back baby!
Overpowered? Thats half the point! (no pun intended)
I believe that fathis would take the dagger without hesitation but I think the progression to using a daedric weapon would be better as you will get to use a variety of weapons before then
You are allowed the dagger if you also take that stone.
Well Fathis had the fiend/devil tanto by like episode 10 or even earlier so i think its fine plus there is still the actual one handed skill to think about where the power will come from. Elven armour isint even that good if I recall its sub scaled armour unless mods change that. Still hoping for some chitin armour and yes that vamp armour does come in red just gotta find it first.
34:33 er.... ACTUALLY.... hello i'm the one you mentioned earlier that has six version of what you searching for
returning serious, there are on nexus some variation of glass armor recolors, from the "morrowind" style to the crimson to the bloody etc... just typing "glass armor" there are FORTHYFIVE variations of glass
SorcererDave, This is great! I liked it and subscribed!
Take on one of the hardest early-game fights and nope out of the other one 😉
I'm not sure if Movarth and Malkoran aren't leveled or just really tough relative to the player at low levels, but even unmodded on normal difficulty I've always had trouble with those, even as I waltz through double dragon fights and full-plate-armor bandit chiefs and Foresworn redoubts. And the thralls usually aren't anywhere near as difficult as whatever mod made them. I'd say you've earned the daedric dagger and whatever armor you think works best for the character. (Too bad you can't wear robes over the armor like in Morrowind, though. Unless there's a mod for that? I'm pretty sure there's only the cloaks, though.)
Also, I doubt Fathis cares, but it's actually possible to keep Alva alive by sneaking through Movarth's lair, where you'll find her fighting one of the vampire mistwalkers, then killing the mistwalker before they kill Alva. If you speak to her outside of combat after that, she'll be neutral. When I play more good characters, I like to headcanon that it might be possible to point her in Falion's direction, but in-game she's just another basic NPC with no interesting dialogue at that point.
I don't think a Daedric dagger is too much of an unfair advantage when you're consistently fighting things much higher level.
Sometimes it feels like MorrowLoot wants you to grind wolves for 20 levels before doing anything interesting so I think the dagger will help.
This immersive campaign if fathis happens across daedric weaponry it's a stroke of luck especially if you didn't force edit it. Besides your enemies aren't near your level. It might assist in future encounters.
@SorcererDave A dodge mod might be fun to try out if you aren’t worried about adding more mods
You could always hold onto the daedric dagger and only use it when you get more bullshit encounters. Only use it on rare occasions if it starts to feel overpowered.
For the fancy new dagger I say try it out for a little bit and if it feels to powerful well, Fathis could always sell it for a nice pile of new spell tomes. The Elven dagger with the 20 points of lightning damage might still be better than it anyway. Oh and also it has to be said:
A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON.
Archmagister of house Telvanni how may I serve you?
Fathis problem is he is a glass cannon. He is just too squishy. Get one of the conditional cast spells so that when he draws a weapon/spell, it automatically casts one of the defensive flesh spells, i.e. stone, flesh, oak flesh, iron flesh, etc..
Flesh spells barely do anything until a decently high armor rating is achieved
@@LibraritheWizardOfficial yeah, forgot about that, but I think the spell(s) are pretty customizable, I don’t have my game nearby so I can’t check. Maybe get a mage focused armor instead like Hedge Mage Armor or something similar. You can upgrade the hedge mage armor with a spell that comes with it.
@@superdave6889 That's the best modded armor tbh. It's really cool that Elleh got to design Spell Knight Armor for CC (also another favorite set of mine, in AE).
4:09 I was about to say "Oh yea, this is gonna be a reload fest.", but then you mentioned followers. Like "more than a mortal Lydia"-type followers.
6:52 Modding and coding: fix one thing, thirty others break.
11:08 My condolences.
11:18 Yea, I can see that, but OOO's were more bullshit. This is more a level/defense gap, not designed to be "hard" for late-game players.
12:09 Good god, that one has Daedric daggers. Maybe this does have some bullshit mixed in.
12:35 Yea, I think without that "Ex-Justiciar", this would be much easier. You're taking great chunks out of a lv42 unique boss mob.
14:08 Yea, I'm gonna blame the modded(?) extra dude. Like, Fathis has no physical defense, but I bet your -minions- followers could take the melee guys and you OHK'd the Mistwalker.
14:41 BuT DaAaVe, SkYrIm Is ToO eAsY. iT nEeDs To Be LiKe DaRk SoUlS. (I'd have hit tgm by now, this is inexcusable)
15:35 Wow, he's a lower level than a mythical vampire lord, but is fifty times the threat.
17:56 I now like Strahg, he said the line.
21:47 I don't remember how much health you have, but Oakflesh is kinda weak, and they are 10 levels above you or so. You still got this.
25:21 Under normal circumstances I'd agree, but you fucking earned that.
26:26 Alternative way to look at it: You have it, but it's not enchanted, so if you enchant it, you'd have to get a new one for an upgrade.
34:24 I'm afraid the Vvaardenfell Glass that you might be able to get you once referred to as being "Fisher Price".
Already a vampire unless you're planning on treating it?
Why does everyone hate the Meridia quest? You get filthy rich from it, AND get a pretty decent weapon.
Dat necromancer, yo.
Ya I never quite understood why every person avoids it I very much like that quest thrbunique enemy design of the necromancer is awaome
@@jay15951 it should be an achievement to beat Malkoran.
If there is a mod for special edition that allows you to wear robes over armour please let me know if I can’t find it. I can sell it for base game Skyrim but not special edition.
ah yes that cave is always annoying
I would say sell the dagger or put it on display. Could also give it to Inigo to make him more of a tank.
