Released in 1984, The Karate Kid movie inspired a whole generation of fans. Not only did it find the sweet spot between marital arts and teen drama, but it also introduced us to a host of unforgettable and relatable characters, such as Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso, Pat Morita’s Mr Miyagi and William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence. Plus, who could ever forget Martin Kove’s John Kreese and Elisabeth Shue’s Ali Mills?
While many of them have returned to their roles on Cobra Kai, there have been some notable exceptions. And now is a good a time as any to see what they’ve all been keeping busy with.

Ralph is amazing as Daniel but he will always also be Johnny Cade to me. He was the perfect Johnny. He played Johnny as the troubled yet sensitive and loyal kid you would protect with your life.

when i watched Karate kid back in the 80's, instantly loved ELizabeth Shue's character, it has that something that you can't quite put your finger to it but it's there, charm i guess. I knew she'd make it big. Same as the little witch from Harry Potter, soon as i saw her, i thought " cute girl, she'll be a beautiful woman and probably successful in the future". Same as Natalie Portman when i saw her in The Professional. Always the same story, pretty girls with spirit and charm always make it big.
The sad thing is at first they didn't want pat to play the part, he had to audition a few times before getting the green light. He also spent his years after the karate kid being boycotted by other Asian actors who said its thanks to his performance that Asian actors are mocked in that stereotypical voice and they also hated the fact that they hired an American to out on the voice and play the part rather than them actually hiring someone from that part of the world, especially as at that time Asians were pushing hard to break into Hollywood and pat was born in california so to them he was a fake. He took it all lightly tho and didn't regret any of it.
The producers really wanted to get Toshiro Mifune (who often closely worked with Akira Kurosawa) for the role but he didnt speak English. The role was originally very serious. It was the director who wanted Pat and when Ralph and Pat tested, they knew they had Miyagi down. It just took the producers a lot of convincing. Its sad that Pat got so much hate from other Asian actors. I mean he was nominated for an Oscar.
