      @@eonsmith9508 They ARE bugs, though. We aren't exactly dealing with human levels of intelligence here. When competition gets too stiff and resources start to run low, animals will start migrating, trying to find new territory that hasn't been depleted yet. Long term sustainability requires a level of forethought that many humans have trouble with, let alone animals.

    In the 4th age, metahumans managed to create gates to the insect spirits' metaplane so as to focus all travel through those gates and then locked them as tightly as possible. Which is perfectly reasonable, actually.
    Spider was trapped under Uluru until a shaman named Twist from the first Shadowrun novel trilogy freed it, after which time as you said.
    For a hint of what insect spirit honey might do, the first edition adventure Queen Euphoria references royal jelly (and amber gel?), I think. It's not the same thing, but such things aren't entirely absent.

      @Glader96 Před 5 měsíci

      I think it was 5e's Howling Shadows supplement that made me just love the Horror's metaplot. I remember that there was a section shadowrunner net-chat where Doc Red(?) bailed a metaplan-traveling shaman ,whose runner name I spot, out of a bad spot before the shaman gets online and begins describing some truly crazy stuff.
      He describes a bridge made of skulls and bones that tempted him like the Ring of Sauron to add more 'pieces of mortar' to it so that what was on the other side would make it to earth faster. After that a bunch of big named characters like Orange Queen (a dragon) and two Immortal Elves are suddenly online in the private server (not invited may I add) and they begin drilling the shaman for detail like how big is the bridge (its gotten bigger) and what it promised the shaman in return.
      The entire section is just a captivating read.

    That are the ONE chill insect spirit, because bumblebees are adorable, and chill as hell, and friendly, like you would straight up need to try and kill them for them to even consider mildly biting you, and you can even train them to do small tricks!

    I'm still unclear on two related ideas: I thought the metaplanes that the insect spirits come from are alien to us. If so, why do we call them insect spirits? Wouldn't that name suggest they are (similar to) animal spirits? For that matter, aren't there animal spirits that represent honeybees, manti and so forth? Why are their names so similar if their implications are so vastly different?
    What ultimately is the connection between Insect spirits and actual insects, besides that they share certain social characteristics?
    I'm confused by the name, I think.

    I thought all spirits came from the metaplanes. The way it seems to be described is that for a spirit of any sort to exist on the physical plane is similar to being a diver for a metahuman. Free spirits are the only ones who have managed to figure out how to stay here permanently and they still aren't native to this plane. the insect spirits come from another metaplane that is 'farther' and very weird by metahuman standards, but all spirits come from varies metaplanes most of which are more familiar.
