Author: Sabaton
Movie/Series: Das Boot (1981), World War 2 In Color, Apocalypse: The Second World War, Dunkirk (2017)
Lyrics for "Wolfpack"
To their own shore,
Came the world war.
Gleaves and Ingham,
Leading the bury west.
Took the short way in,
The long route back convoy 92.
Bury Gleaves and Ingham leading,
Tankers to the west.
And upon the north atlantic,
Lies the silence of the seas.
On the quietest night in the darkest hour,
The kriegsmarine appear.
Above the surface it seems quiet and calm.
Deep down below the wolfpack lurks.
To their own shore,
Came the world war.
Gleaves and Ingham,
Leading the bury west.
In their own track,
Came the wolfpack.
Gleaves led the convoy,
Into the hornets nest.
At the crack of dawn the second day,
Bury stands in flames.
Half the convoy sunk or disabled,
Heading back to the shore.
But below the north Atlantic,
On the bottom of the sea.
On the second night in the darkest hour,
The kriegsmarine return.
The wolfpack surface for a second time.
To make the convoy face it's fate.
To their own shore,
Came the world war.
Gleaves and the Ingham,
Leading the bury west.
In their own track,
Came the wolfpack.
Gleaves led the convoy,
Into the hornets nest.
Under fire,
Under water.
May 42 when,
Bury did fail the test.
To their own shore,
Came the world war.
Gleaves and the Ingham,
Leading them into death.
569 makes the contact and lead them,
U-94 scores a kill in the dark.
124 sinking four in two approaches,
406 suffers failure on launch.
569 makes the contact and lead them,
U-94 scores a kill in the dark.
124 sinking four in two approaches,
406 suffers failure on launch again.
In their own track,
Came the wolfpack.
Gleaves led the convoy,
Into the hornets nest.
To their own shore,
Came the world war.
Gleaves and the Ingham,
Leading the bury west.
In their own track,

Das boot was a great movie. I had the director's cut of it. I'd watch it all day and it never got old!
The ending made me depressed though
@@thegoosegaming4337 Its that masterpiece war movie ending... Overall it's awesome how you both emotionally follow the u96 crew but also question their actions...
Sadly the movie doesn't include the moment were they stop a passenger ship and threaten to sink it if the captain doesn't come over to show the ships document to proof that it is a civilian vessel without any military stuff on it...
That moment is in the book...
If the book is available in English that moment alone makes it worth buying.
While the movie is awesome the book is a completely different level of thrilling. Describing both boredom and combat and the psychological hardships...
U-571 Also because it has good effects and sound effects 20+ years ago
@@annasstorybox7906 the book Das Boot(The Boat) by Lothar Günther-Buchheim, if that’s what you’re referring to, is indeed in English. I just got it for Christmas, can’t wait to read it. I have the Director’s Cut of the movie, myself, and it is indeed a masterpiece.
Das Boot directors cut is the most amazing film ever MADE. The suspense rips through you.
My Dad was on HMS Bury. This is surreal
That is crazy. Although the irony is that the Gleaves was named after a pioneer in torpedo technology
When it was announced Australia would get Nuclear Submarines, I quickly blasted this track
You certainly have a gift, the editing is great. The music and images fit together fantastically!

I feel that the movie Greyhound will be what gets slapped with this song.
Yup. Even though greyhound is about an allied victory not defeat
Greyhound is a American bias movie
With it's modern day cinematography, it does fit well with music.
Greyhound, if I'm not mistaken, is actually inaccurate by so much that some historians hate it.
@@Sammy-sv5uq good movie though.

Yooo yall get Destoryer UBOAT hunter?
Im very exited for the big update release for UBOAT its catching up to that immersion and a little more with silent hunter.
Imagine being in combat on a submarine, pure horror in my opinion. If you get found your dead basically. There’s no escaping.
It's not impossible to escape, just very difficult
It depends on the conditions, it's much harder to escape when the destroyers get close enough to use their sonar.
If you wanted even a change to escape you would dive to the seafloor, if it's too deep go 200 meters ( which would be the maximum depth that a uboat can go without suffering major hull damage to get below the acoustic layer and make it harder to detect you, kill all your devices and go minimum speed, while using the hydrophone to make sure your stern or bow is facing the destroyers to make a smaller sonar cross section

I can confirm all of those U-boats are real
IF you mean from the song, of course. It is a song covering convoy ON 92.
@@randomlyentertaining8287 no its a song about German u boat tactics
@@flammenwerfer6548 I mean the lyrics are specifically about wolfpack Hecht(pike)’s raid on convoy ON 92
You can tell this by the u-boat name
U-569 found the convoy, told the wolf pack, and drew the attention of the destroyer gleaves
U-94 took out 1 or 2 ships in a storm which the convoy entered during evasive maneuvers
U-124 charged in first and sank 4 in 2 approaches
U-406 suffered of the case of torpedo launch failures on two separate occasions
2 other u-boats did what U-569 did and I’m not sure about the 1 other u-boat

Interesting fact: Of all boats that operated in Wolfpack Hecht, the Wolfpack that attacked ON92, only U-96 survived past the middle of 1944, with three of them being sunk before the end of 1942.

The naval warfare became much scarier in 20's century... Imagine serving of a big and badass ship and getting attacked by a submarine. Where did it come from? How tf do you fight this thing?
Fair to be, I think it was pretty much all the time something new was invented and brought to the battle field. I can imagine Germans going ''Was zu Hölle?'' when Brits brought MK-1 to the battlefield

Anyone know some details about the event theyre singing about? Ive gathered its an allied fleet getting jumped by u boats but is it a specific encounter?
convoy 92 en route to scotland being ambushed by wolfpack hechkt in may 42.
gleaves and ingram were coast guardd warships escorting supplies across the ocean.bury was a rescue ship with advanced sonar equipment if i am not mistaken ,meant to pick up signal between the uboats and also try to spot them.
you can read a more detailed report of this on youtube/Wikipedia most likely.wolfpack was a...wolfpack... one would draw fire and try to leave the cargo defenceless and the others would jump at the opportunity, attack and retreat immediately before depth charges would come and then another uboat would repeat this step and the others would attack. efficient but the allies caught on the fact they were communicating between them when finding targets which was a big issue since the element of surprise was lost and their position given away... especially late war. there were also sub killer groups made meant to hunt the enemy subs with depth charges or hedgerow lauchers
hedgehog. not row.hedgerow were at normandy and gave the troops a bad day
hedgehog was the weapon system i was talking about
@@clientcomun1958 thanks man
@@421less1 no problem! i hope you found what you were looking for! i knew about wolfpacks and a few convoys but never knew about this one in particular until sabaton released their song about it a few years back.
What a shitty fate they have
During the Battle of the Atlantic thirty thousand out of forty thousand U-Boat sailors of the Kriegsmarine were killed via depth charge or torpedo attacks. They knew when they went out into the icy sea to do their duty for Hitler they likely wouldn't return home to Germany. The reason for this was the Royal Navy built newer and faster destroyers with improved solar technology, for the sole purpose of eradicating the Wolfpack menace that threatened the Allied convoys. However, I don't care what side anyone fights on because when you imagine yourself in that steel coffin beneath the ocean, and you hear the ping of the sonar and the destroyer overhead dropping depth charges and then a deafening explosion followed by the lights going out and cold water flooding the compartment... well war knows no nation.
It was only part of the reason, mainly because they captured the ENIGMA descriptor and were able to listen to and decode the German communication, so they knew exactly where the submarines were and could react accordingly, so it wasn't really on the newer and better destroyers
