    Greetings from fellow 701 SM rider in Canada. Love the videos! Keep us updated on the oil situation as I’m just breaking in my new 701.

      Just did a quick check on my 701 SM and found that the bottom of the engine was covered with a film of oil 😬. Didn’t appear that the oil was coming from the filler cap as the immediate area was dry. Will have to keep an eye on things, but it’s making me a bit concerned about the build quality of the Husqvarna bikes.

      @Thomas Woo That'd suck big time. I hope you find the source of the leak. I was lucky to only have it coming from the cap.

    Sad that it’s about issues, but glad to keep seeing more 701 content. Hope it all gets sorted 100%.
    The kind of shock/sinking feeling I bet you felt in the moment reminds me of my first weeks with my 701. Was meant to be breaking it in before the first service but a few days before the 9000 mark I was hammering a twisty run. When I turned the bike back on from a few mins rest the oil light was on, so read the manual and it said high oil pressure, get to garage - or perhaps low, canny remember - so waited for ages thinking I just got it way too hot for too long. (I was thrashing). Turns out it’s just the light that says on when the stand is down and the bikes not in gear - like a car showing it’s lights are working on the days. (You can see it in your vid whenever the engine is on and the stand is down). I was dead certain I broke something lol. Was just the kick stand and no gear 😂.

      It's hard to ride this bike without giving it all the beans.
      I got mine pre-owned, after it had been broken in (full service history).
      Right now, it's sitting at about 28,000kms and still punches hard.
      Have you had a valve clearance inspection yet?

    • @MV-vv7sg
      @MV-vv7sg Před rokem

      @@afrobykr Yea for sure, once I had the first service done and it’s ‘out the break-in period’, being able to use to quick shifter and the higher Rev ranges (where all the torque is at) it’s insane.
      Had the first full service but not the first maintenance one with valve clearance checks.
      Are you going to do it yourself now you know mostly it’s in within your ability and way cheaper than taking it to the shop?

    • @afrobykr
      @afrobykr  Před rokem +1

      100%. From this point onwards, I'll be doing everything myself.
      I reckon I'll benefit a lot more from picking up a few more skills and using the money on tools than taking it to a mechanic.
      I'm also considering slapping on some DS tyres once my current ones need replacing, so the bike can see dirt a bit more (even though she's a bit porky 🤭)

      @@afrobykr Would be great to see some vids of the maintenance once your confident. Deffo a good way to learn!
      Nice idea. Met two guys one with the SM one with the Enduro and they both have knobblies and slicks so they do both on both aha. The subtle differences are interesting.
      Deffo looking forward to some more adventurous stuff then!

    Good to hear that it was only an o-ring problem. I’m half way through break-in on my Husky and will remember to do a quick check of the oil level every ride.
    You must be doing some serious lean angles to have the oil reach the level of the filler cap 👍

    • @afrobykr
      @afrobykr  Před rokem

      That's probably a wise thing to do. I'm trying to check the oil a bit more often too. I haven't seen the level go down ever since I replaced the o-ring.
      Well, I scrape my boots + pegs sometimes in the corners but it still feels like the bike can lean a bit more.

      @@afrobykr just found that the bottom of the engine was covered in a film of oil. Could not see an obvious source of leaking, but it’s starting to concern me. Oil level was ok in the oil level window.

      @afrobykr  Před rokem

      @Thomas Woo And it's not even broken in 😬!!!
      Hopefully, your break-in service isn't too far away. I'd get a mechanic to investigate the source of the leak, especially because it's occurred that early in the life of the bike.
      Fingers crossed, it's nothing major 🙏🏾

      Just took a closer look at the bike. Seems like it could be seeping from the gear shift rod where it comes out of the engine. Had a similar problem with my KTM 690 which uses the same engine. 🙄

    same happened to me. same bike, right after break in. Oil wasnt even low though. I was running no spark arrestor, put it back in and havent had issue. Maybe something to do with backpressure? Idk

    Would you recommend I get this bike still? I’m currently working very hard to save up enough to buy my first bike and I wanted something reliable and fun. I know no bike is perfect, but this sounded like a heart wrenching situation for a second for the money you put down on it.
    I’d def like to pick your brain on the matter.

    • @afrobykr
      @afrobykr  Před rokem +2

      Ooooh that's a bit of a hard one. I would honestly say it has been really reliable in the time that I've owned it except this one day. If I had kept my eye on the oil level, the issue would have probably been prevented.
      I have read quite a few mixed reviews online, but it's a known fact that it's people with bad experiences that normally come out and share their opinions.
      For the money, there are many street bikes you could get with proven reliability like the MT07, MT09, etc. (without being biased 😅).
      However, if you are deadset on a motard, the story is different, especially if you want one you can daily.
      I wouldn't wanna be the one to recommend a bike that ends up being a lemon for you, but all I can day is it has been reliable and fun for me.
