    Its pretty astonishing how big of a leap Kia and Hyundai have made in just 5 years. Turned around their companies.

    I don't understand why people hate the interior design. I love the restraint. I currently have a 2011 Elantra and I have to say that I believe the conservative interior makes it so much more mature in nature.

    Excellent review Zach. I just wanted to comment on how impressive some of the camera work was in this review. I especially liked the footage when you were driving and the camera panned overtop of you from the back seat and zoomed into the dash. Very nicely done, and excellent presentation and narration. Your reviews are on point, clear and I like how you throw in your real world driving experiences.

      I think it was the first time I have ever seen that shot from a car review on TV or your tube. It was a really cool perspective of the interior.

    Good review. The price point with the aggressive rebates make this cheaper than the Honda Accord or Camry. That being said, those cars have reliability and Consumers Reports on their side. Currently looking at the Camry XSE 2.5 liter 4 cylinder; with the rebates the Navigation and upgraded stereo is only about $1,500 US more, albeit in a smaller and older designed car (but it's a Camry). Honda is probably a bit better than either of these but they have restrictive options packages and have smaller rebates making them more expensive to purchase. Keep up the good work (from an ex-Canadian not in TN)!

    The 2.4ltr. for me is the best choice for day-to-day and family driving. The turbo version is also a nice choice for spirited driving, however, once the car have earned a lot of mileage, maintenance cost for turbos will be on the highside. I have the 2012 2.4ltr GLS and it is a perfect car for me and my family. I average 6.4 liters per 100 kms. highway driving at an ave. speed of 110 to 120 kph. City driving is frequently 9.8 liters per 100 kms.

    Love the reviews, how did you find the seats? I found the 2014 Accords seats to be very good but I've never been a huge fan of those found in Camry's although I haven't seen the most recent one.

    In lower trims this car makes sense somewhat, but at the top end it is within range of a fully loaded Azera which comes with a V6 engine and is more plush and makes more sense. You can also get a base Lexus ES which even though it may not have the same stuff, it is still a Lexus. And then when you go down the range there is the Camry and the Accord and the Fusion and others which just makes things even harder.

    I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you on the styling of the 2010 Sonata. I believe that the 2008 Honda Accord and more notably the Accord coupe had the dynamic styling before the Hyundai. Great review otherwise!

    Did you know why Hyundai detuned its 2.0T Engine?
    Because the 2010 2.0T engine wasn't too reliable, so they have to kept detuning it. It's like asking Subaru to make a 500hp STi from the same 2.5L , but it wouldn't have the same level of reliability as to the current 305hp form.

    I absolutely love mine (Limited). I'd suggest that you don't get the base model (I had to drive one for a couple of days); it drove roughly and he interior seemed slightly smaller than the Limited.

    • @robtaylor4365
      @robtaylor4365 Před 9 lety +7

      The interior wouldn't actually be smaller as all models use the same frame and chassis.

    • @Anonymous-ji4sb
      @Anonymous-ji4sb Před 5 lety

      Meredith Rogers I have the base model and you are totally wrong, it is smooth as silk and has the biggest interior I’ve been in for a while. The fully loaded limited and the base SE has the exact same suspension set up, so If anything the limited would ride worse because it has 17” rims, while the base SE has smaller rims with more side wall on the tires to absorb the impact of a pothole or rough road conditions.

    hyundai sonata is a good car i love the styling and all BUT the problem is with the 2.4 liter GDI engine. I used to have a 2011 with the said engine all maintained everything change oil with syntetic oil and filter but at 90+kms it started burning oil. even got in a situation that the oil dipstick is completely dry, no warning light at all... RELIABLITY ISSUES here is a concern

      Sounds like your Sonata had one of those faulty engines that Hyundai has recently recalled. The recall affects over a million cars with the Theta 2.0 turbo & 2.4 engines mfgd between 2010 and 2013.
      If you still have the car Hyundai will put a brand new motor in your car.

    HUMMMM when will Hyundai / Kia get sued AGAIN for BS'ing on MPG mumbers?

    • @onestepper
      @onestepper Před 9 lety

      MPG not an issue with the current new models. Hyundai was not sued. The US regulator investigated and fined them - they used their top scores instead of averages - they cooperated with the investigation and accepted the decision and paid the fine. BTW, ALL of the major car companies have been sued or investigated for MPG "discrepancies."

    • @parkdaniel7530
      @parkdaniel7530 Před 9 lety

      Stop hating honda chevy dodge toyota and even bmw have been sued for only releasing the top numbers for mpg. Also hyundai accepted the fine and paid up instead of going to court like those idiots.

  • @Trades46
    @Trades46 Před 9 lety

    I think the interior looks...downright plain. Heck the ENTIRE car feels plain. Sure the last gen's 'fluidic sculpture' design language didn't date well, but it was different enough to make them stand out. That Sonata really showed the world Hyundai is capable of making desirable cars & not 'me-too' copycats.
    I felt Hyundai got OVERLY cautious in designing this model. The exterior is fine, but the interior lacks ANY style at all. No tasteful trim, no uniqueness. Just 50+ shades of Grey and black all arranged in trapezoidal shapes. This has to be the most boring interior of any midsize sedan sold in Canada. Period.

    • @parkdaniel7530
      @parkdaniel7530 Před 9 lety +1

      Agree with you for the interior. It would be nice to have a better laid out interior. I agree the inside isnt really on par with the exterior. Hopefully they w old fix this next year if possible.
