    When you re weld the anvil, pre heat it first to around 175-200 degrees Celsius. Then hold at that temp for an hour or so after welding before allowing it to air cool. Also suggest doing deep bevel and do your root and a couple of hot passes with 6010 or 6011, then finish fill and cap with 7018. Cheers m8! Great chisel ya made there. Look forward to the didgeridoo build...

    Nice job Adam :) the Doo maker will be stoked. Don't be afraid to crank the amps up high and slow down the travel speed bro, that heavy stuff needs the heat for a good weld, if you lie it over and run down hand it will flow nicer also. Best of luck :) stay safe m8.

    Wouldn't it be easier to make the chisel smaller and just make the handle out of wood and longer? I mean all that precious metal ... you just need that tiny itsy bitsy tip for carving :D Would love to see building a Didge from one of you Aussies. I have 3 myself. We also used a long file, and a rasp attached to a broomstick to clean the inner parts. Mine was made out of bamboo... not ideal, but it was a starter.

    • @SpeargrassForge
      @SpeargrassForge  Před 4 lety

      Oh absolutely the tip could be hardened steel and the rest could be mild. The point though is the weight. Didgeridoos are made from eucalypts and other australian hard woods. And they can be hard as Heck. So the weight if the shaft is needed to remove the wood as opposed to using a mallet, or burning them out.

    If you could have someone wire EDM through the anvil all the way through from top to bottom in at least two places, insert a rod of a close size and weld both ends, might be a good solution. Clean up the top with a flap disc. Bob's your Uncle!

      The first welds held up for over a year. This time its migged. Hope it works for longer this time
