I will never not think that moment where Orville gets sucked into the engine is hilarious. There's just something about the combination of sound effects and visuals that is comedy gold.
I am pretty certain that Orville's scream as he goes through the swamp-mobile's engine is a heavily modified Goofy yell. Likely they took a tape-reel copy of that yell and recorded it on a new reel while playing the first copy back at variable speeds to produce that effect.
I believe through film layer compositing. The layers of cels used in traditional painted-cel animation are transparant (which allow multiple layers of characters and parts of characters to be animated separately in a shot), so Disney likely took live footage of fireworks and layered animated cels of Orville and the other characters on top of it.

Taking another listen when Bernard's umbrella fails, that's the same SFX from when Alice's dress becomes a parachute. I never actually noticed that when I was younger. Recycled sound effects. Disney archived them well.

Computers did exist in the 1970s. Just no CGI.
