My brother is a reporter and spends most of his time on the border, regardless of one's politics, they should care about the border. The cartels treat the people like cattle and commit the most heinous crimes you can imagine, most never get reported. Both parties have done a horrible job handling the border but it will take both parties to implement a solution.

@@pillsburydopeboy3962 It is a very complex issue. The harder the Mexican gov goes on the cartels, the more war and instability there is in Mexico which leads to other large problems. The reality is the cartels are a cancer that only keeps growing. My fear is this causes Mexico and US relations to sour further and Mexico turn to China. Then we have a Russia/Ukraine situation on our hands and people don’t realize how close to that we are.

Having a border has been one of the most basic functions of a government since forever. What's the point of having a state, much less a welfare state, if citizenship and residency aren't even protected?

I’m from Sweden and when I was young I never understood the Americans “hate” for the immigration from Latin America, but now that my country has had one of the biggest immigrations in history (as percentage of population) I completely understand. Guy was a little bit off on the immigration court process. I’ve been working in an immigration law firm for years and asylum applicants have more than one court date. They are broken down into master and individual hearings. It’s not like you get detained and 4 years later you have your only hearing. Also, if you miss any court date it’s an automatic deportation if you get detained afterwards.

no, you cant compare illegally immigrating to bank robbery. No, you cant compare immigrating from Canada to Mexico. You could be the nicest person in the world with no criminal activity or record, ever. but if you dont have the money your application wont even make it through. Even if it does, there is a high chance you wont be accepted unless you have money or top tier education, especially from countries with bad crime. I.E Mexico. So the process is basically impossible and it takes years even for the system to process the basic information.
