HEVC vs AVC: Which codec is right for you?

- Doing some live streaming? Then you’ve probably heard of HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) and AVC (Advanced Video Coding). Both are internationally-accepted standards for encoding and decoding video. But their main difference? HEVC (H.265) provides the same video quality of AVC (H.264) at half the bitrate. But how exactly does this actually translate to what your audience sees? We experimented with videos encoded in HEVC vs AVC to answer that question.

Thanks for the video it helped me understand why it's asking me to change formats on my phone so they play better on computers and other devices. Most definitely got a new subscriber! Thanks again
Thank you very much for that information. Now I know which one to use to provide a better quality. Watching you from The Dominican Republic.
Thank you so much for this information
Really good video ! Thank you very much !!
CZcams supports HEVC live streaming. Does Teradek make an HEVC encoder? I am currently using a BMD Web Presenter HD, but I'm always open to upgrading if it means higher quality at lower bitrate. Also do you make an AV1 encoder, or will you be making one soon? I'm very interested in the transition to AV1.
Yes, Teradek Cube, Vidiu Go, and Prism Series all support HEVC. It sounds like you're trying to increase quality on CZcams, which can be achievable through HLS Push with HEVC. We are working on this feature-it is not available yet.
@@Teradek Ah good to know. Yes I sometimes use HLS with HEVC through OBS when I am at a venue with very tight upload speeds. It would be great to have the reliability of a dedicated hardware encoder for those situations though.
Lol at "salty old seasoned vet". I feel like this video was speaking to me.
thanks
Bit Depth does matter. Just watch Mandalorian Season 1 as to why 8bit can suck (banding in several shots). HEVC offers 10 and 12-bit (and 16-bit 444 with the right encoder) right now. AVC goes up to 10 bit. Also one comment below mentions 720p and 2160p, that's spatial resolution. I can make a 10bit AVC at 4Mbps look like an 10bit HEVC at 1Mbps with the right content. So bad analogy.
Samsung using hevc
Google's VP9 codec produces comparable results.
HEVC is good for Movie's?
Yes 720p hevc 8bit look like 2160p x264
@@XYZXX113which one is better, 10bit Or 8bit?
@@XYZXX113 my Android support both, So which one I prefer? I download movies online, so which one is better for me in 720p resolution?
@@XYZXX113 there is only 2 options, 720p and 720p HEVC, Which one I prefer?
@@prince.8 720p hevc
everyone using hevc now
