That was mainly before the mid 60's. The apartment buildings built after that time are usually higher and have an elevator. Also, it depends on the size of city or town.

The housing projects were the same and were done in Moscow and Leningrad irregardless the part of Russia. 5 floor houses were constructed during Khrushov, latter the height limits were gradually expanded. It was 16 floors outside of Moscow by the end of the Union. Now the limit for selfgoverning is 100 m, so most housing is 33 floor tall (3m per floor), since over 100m you have to approve projects in Moscow with additional money and at least one extra year wasted.
I'm from Connecticut. My daughter did a semester at Saint Petersburg University. She lived with a host family. She loved the experience and loves her host family and talks to them to this day. Her host family lived in the center of the city.

I watched this video and was awestruck by it. The blue sky, the kids playing in the background, the beautiful plants and the homes on the street. I live in the US and really never saw any video of just normal neighborhoods in Russia. Videos I would normally see were of Putin, military, and snow. Its beautiful there. It brought back memories of my childhood.. Kids don't play outside here, they are on their ipads. Occasionally you see one or two kids heading to the pool but not just to be outside. That is a really nice place. Seems peaceful there.
No offense but kids now deal with suburban, anti-pedestrian cities and 100+ degree weather every Summer in the USA. I don't blame them for not wanting to play outside, it was rough enough for me in the 90s.
Goes to show how easily media can influence a person. If you constantly see violence and tyranny being associated with a country, you assume that's what life is all about there. If you see an awesome dude showing you around a nice, pretty neighbourhood in the sun, then it must not be so bad after all. 😏 My point: it's human nature to think in absolutes.

I used to work for a company in America that built ladders. The man working next to me was from Russia. I asked him what the Russian word for ladder was. He said лестница. I noticed in the video that was the same word for stairs. Very interesting.
I went to Russia 🇷🇺 for the World Cup and it was amazing. You just get to see other type of life style . I was in Rostov , Samara , St. Petersburg , and Moscow . I didn’t know they stopped selling alcohol at 5pm lol. I did all my communication through this google app haha

Fan fact: during the Soviet time from 20-s to 50-s there were no locks on the doors; people were polite and respectful to each other, nobody though about robbing and harming to people. There were the communal apartments, where three or four families could live next room (in one appartment). After the 50-s the communal apartments were reduced and flats with single appartments have appeared (by Khrushchev's reforms).
Great video ! I love to see how people live around the world. I even got to live and work in Kuwait (Middle East) for 3 years. Something I miss about Russian gardens and lawns is that people don't over-mow their lawns and generally leave the wild flowers be, which draw in more butterflies and bees. I also like the loose garden style.

It is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, so that we have to use a lot of energy to cool it and heat it, but we do not care, as American Navy, Army and Air Force make sure the oil is cheap.

I don't like the old Soviet apartments at all, their whole concept is scary. But this is funny because in my country we live in extremely small houses that are literally stuck together and it is quite a bad situation that I am only used to because I grew up like that. I also live in a place where a whole bunch of cars are parked on the street. There used to be no cars here in the early 90s when I was growing up and now there are so many out on there. We live the same way in America and something is always breaking . Most of us anyways . Hills and valleys is life . Working to get better things and finding the things we own can sometimes chain us down . I think the best thing to do is to buy some land , build a log cabin and materials from the land and be happy with some family and a few animals like chickens and cows .

Many times more than one for each apt if you have more than one adult living there. Our apartments are bigger and they each have their own door to the outside, at least in my area. I watched this video and was awestruck by it. The blue sky, the kids playing in the background, the beautiful plants and the homes on the street. I live in the US and really never saw any video of just normal neighborhoods in Russia. Videos I would normally see were of Putin, military, and snow. Its beautiful there. It brought back memories of my childhood.. Kids don't play outside here, they are on their ipads. Occasionally you see one or two kids heading to the pool but not just to be outside. That is a really nice place. Seems peaceful there.
No offense but kids now deal with suburban, anti-pedestrian cities and 100+ degree weather every Summer in the USA. I don't blame them for not wanting to play outside, it was rough enough for me in the 90s.
What propaganda can do.
Goes to show how easily media can influence a person. If you constantly see violence and tyranny being associated with a country, you assume that's what life is all about there. If you see an awesome dude showing you around a nice, pretty neighbourhood in the sun, then it must not be so bad after all. 😏
My point: it's human nature to think in absolutes.

I used to work for a company in America that built ladders. The man working next to me was from Russia. I asked him what the Russian word for ladder was. He said лестница. I noticed in the video that was the same word for stairs. Very interesting.

I went to Russia 🇷🇺 for the World Cup and it was amazing. You just get to see other type of life style . I was in Rostov , Samara , St. Petersburg , and Moscow . I didn’t know they stopped selling alcohol at 5pm lol. I did all my communication through this google app haha

Fan fact: during the Soviet time from 20-s to 50-s there were no locks on the doors; people were polite and respectful to each other, nobody though about robbing and harming to people. There were the communal apartments, where three or four families could live next room (in one appartment). After the 50-s the communal apartments were reduced and flats with single appartments have appeared (by Khrushchev's reforms).

Great video ! I love to see how people live around the world. I even got to live and work in Kuwait (Middle East) for 3 years. Not bad, but the desert environment reaching 55 C was a bit much during the summers. Oh, and a quick note on your 4:50 pause to remember the word at the top of the stairs, you used PLATFORM. Correct, but we call them LANDINGS. A VERY minor detail of course.

Something I miss about Russian gardens and lawns is that people don't over-mow their lawns and generally leave the wild flowers be, which draw in more butterflies and bees. I also like the loose garden style.

Yea! many of them are rough coming from someone who lived in some myself but most of them have been built during the soviet union and because of how many floors there are many people just can't renovate.
I am Chinese and I come from Malaysia. I visited Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Irkutsk last year. What a beautiful country and even the Cities are clean and public transportations are organized. I look forward to coming back again.

The building is very well built, as natural materials were used, so the apartment is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. My apartment in the USA is made of aluminium and plastic. It is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, so that we have to use a lot of energy to cool it and heat it, but we do not care, as American Navy, Army and Air Force make sure the oil is cheap.

"Анатолий" is just another case-- "Anatolios" (Greek). Of course there are also Slavic names like: Святослав, Ярослав, Станислав, Владислав, etc.

А попробуйте там оказаться в марте или ноябре, например. Хотя если вы сравниваете с самым дном российского жилья, то, вероятно, двор из видео может показаться хорошим. Но стоит ли вообще что-нибудь сравнивать с домами-свечками на безграничных полях асфальта?

I also live in a place where a whole bunch of cars are parked on the street. There used to be no cars here in the early 90s when I was growing up and now there are so many out on there. We live the same way in America and something is always breaking . Most of us anyways . Hills and valleys is life . Working to get better things and finding the things we own can sometimes chain us down . I think the best thing to do is to buy some land , build a log cabin and materials from the land and be happy with some family and a few animals like chickens and cows .

Так очень удобно, потому, что в своём доме ты обычно во дворе и, если приспичит, можно просто дойти до уличного, а не разуваться и переться в дом (весь в опилках и земле)

The video shows a house built in the 60s and it looks very bad even for Russians. This guy did not show a new residential area with houses on 24 floors , security, multi-level Parking, concierge at the entrance and modern playgrounds and sports grounds. There are a huge number of new residential complexes throughout Russia .

@@amkinder ну в немецком сейчас просто английские слова произносят никак не меняя. Так что это не только у нас с языком проблемы.

Вот когда изменить язык пытаются сверху, издавая законы, это всё равно что завалить растение большим камнем - расти оно всё равно будет, просто побелеет немного от недостатка солнца, но проползёт в сторону мимо камня и пойдёт дальше расти куда ему нужно.
@@osterars язык развивается, заимствует слова из других языков, через n лет рофлы и рилы в словарях появятся, что в этом плохого? И лет 200 назад язык был совсем другим, может всем начать говорить как 200 лет назад?

Рофлы и рилы - оболванивание молодёжи, мозг разжижающее. Эти люди не могут думать, не могут общаться с инаковоспитанными. Россия слаба как никогда.

It’s so interesting to see how you live in Russia. I live in an apartment in the USA in North Carolina and it is very different from that. We literally ALL have cars. Many times more than one for each apt if you have more than one adult living there. Our apartments are bigger and they each have their own door to the outside, at least in my area. Thank you for sharing!

@@csalways а дома эти советские строились в послевоенное время. Когда надо было быстро обеспечить жильём огромное число людей. Поэтому квартиры там не большие.
Но эти дома служат верой и правдой по сей день, хотя строились как временный вариант (потом планировалось переселить людей в жильё получше). И квартиры эти выдавались бесплатно.
А сейчас люди крошечные студии берут в ипотеку, зато в 30-этажном доме.
В Германии тоже многие люди по сей день в хрущёвках живут, потому что часть Дрезден, например, СССР восстанавливал.
