When I first heard that Monika was going to compete, I instantly knew that she was going to win even without hearing the song. Her previous work is amazing and I really hope that eurovision will see that too!

I've watched this video twice now, once after midday before I went out to the garden, and again now after coming in, and it was even better on second listening (I already liked it the first time, but missed a lot of what's going on in the musical background like these funky guitar licks and the great bass line...). Ultrazine nailed it in the comments with describing this as "retrofuturistic". As a jazz afficionado Monika made me feel at home with her classy jazzy voice (great, delicate voice!), but it felt not only homey, that might have been a bit boring even with a great voice if it had only been like a remake of a classic, it felt fresh and unheard of at the same time, some slavic elements in her slides, and some aliens sitting in the band, playing instruments from outer space. Great production and mix as well, her voice sits comfortably in the middle of all of that musical craziness that's going on here, and Monika herself came in like a hybrid of great French chanteuse Mireille Mathieu "La Demoiselle d’Avignon", and Captain Benteen from Deep Space Nine, hilarious! And though there were a lot of electronics involved in the production they were well balanced with real instruments, not an issue for me here, all the more as there was not a hint of auto tune on her voice, she sings like a true mermaid! For my personal taste of music and thinking about whether I might like to listen to this even in 5 or 10 years she surpasses "Brividi" and is on top in my ranking right now, and for her chances to win I'd say she should come in among the top ten at least. ( The Spanish chicks will be in the lower middle, between places 30-18 in the best case...)

@@symplytraciereacts I'm not really familiar with the rules of the ESC, but isn't it a public voting, like people can make phone calls to vote for artists and in the end each country will tell the number of points for every other country, something like that? I really was surprised that Maneskin had won ESC 21, didn't follow that competition for years and learned about them only later when reaction videos popped up like crazy, couldn't believe that something as good and deep had emerged from that contest - I didn't follow it since I was a teenager because I thought they'd play only commercial pop music which is not my cup of tea...

You are very insightful and can feel music so well! The song has very poetic, somewhat theatrical lyrics, and you are correct that it's about someone leaving and not coming back. However, the woman in the song is happy to live in the past and her memories, which is why I think the song has this whimsical, quirky, relaxed vibe instead of sad.

The song is like a smooth glass being formed into shapes/forms you could just put the glass forming visuals or honey 🍯 dripping visuals on the song and it would give off the same smoothness, retro sexy cabaret from the past vibes. (Sorry if this sounds confusing)
