Fun fact: The Jordan 1s were never actually banned. While the Jordan one was being developed, mj was wearing a replacement Pair of nikes int the Same Colourway the Jordans would be. These were the shoes that the League banned. When the Jordan ones were out, they already took their loss and didn´t ban them. However, Nike, As smart as they were used this ban On their Marketing for the Release of the Jordan one. Thats why people remember the Jordan one was banned even tho it wasnt.

Meantime, the NHL has more sponsors down the boards and around the arena than a typical NBA arena. How long before the paint gets sold off with logos and the three point line is really a set of sponsor logos then?

The number restriction is just dumb. It's absolutely trivial to represent 0-99 with two hands... think about it for a minute. Each finger has two positions, and they can be extended and retracted in a simple, wave pattern, allowing each hand to represent 0-9, the right hand representing the 10s place and the left the 1s so it reads easily to anyone looking at the ref. 0 and 00 are easy to differentiate too, by using just the left hand for 0 and both hands for 00. Truly trivial.
