Thank you! 🎼 🎤 🎵 🎶 👍🏾
I went to this when they came to Pensacola, Fl. This was one of the best showcases I have ever seen and experienced. I'll never forget it. All it takes is hearing one of those songs to take right back there.
I've heard the music before of the instrumental but have never known the name or who played it, I'm enjoying this with earbuds on at 3:35 am May 20, 2022😄🥰🤩👏👏👏
@@ashleyaugust-jones7403 Try catching Time is Tight by Booker T - even better.
@@bryanwood8050 Thanks, I'll do just that🙂
Absolutely out of this world . What music we had back then. Still makes this old 75 year old want to jump up and down 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏😎
While Motown was known as Hitsville, Stax was Soulville.
What a band. Otis, Al and Duck are so missed. Glad Steve and Booker T are still carrying the torch for the incomparable Stax Volt sound.
Saw Booker T playing with Neil Young back in the 80's i think . Incredible performance they both gave
The Stax/ Volt artists were somehow cooler than their Motown compatriots. Maybe because they weren’t as slickly produced (strings and smooth arrangements).
Can’t say one was better . . .just different!
@@BlueHopi144 duh that was after dylan fest in msg where booker t was the backup band for everyone and it was an incredible lineup and then neil went on tour with them as his band one of the best shows i've ever seen was at the warfield in sf
Otis has always been and will always be the man. Al Jackson Jr was one of the best drummers ever..
listen to the way hes got them tuned ..........he had the best sound ever
Oh, that's who that entrancing fellow is!!
@@slackthompson6984 yeah man. damn that snare. He had it tuned perfect. I bet though, if we complimented his tuning after the show and stood there with him, hed have all kinds of things to say about it. Like its imperfections. Because i see him as a perfectionist. he had to be. You gotta be to have a sound that good.
@@slackthompson6984 Al and Ringo tuned their snares to perfection!
Couldn't agree more - like the rest of the band: economic with the notes, only using the right ones to make it funky and moving.
of all the musicians who died young otis redding hurts the most such a great songwriter and stage presence
Yes - so true, yet I've always wondered what might have become of Buddy Holly.
@@kinky_Z funny labamba was on the other night was wondering the samething about him and valens
I recently saw something John Lee Hooker or Muddy Waters said about Otis. He basically said that Otis had a command over the audience like no other and he was a natural performer.
We'll never know, well at least on this planet or life. Jimi, Janis or Jim, three "Js" alone!
so true...so sad
My youth, my music. And that's MUSIC! No large PA and lights, no artifices but real MUSIC from the heart!
To today's generation, THIS IS HOW ITS DONE....
Soul music in the 60s ... there is nothing better.
Damn right.
Truth Indeed
I concur

Stax and Motown were revolutionary in so many things they brought to pop music. Growing up in the segregated South in the 1960’s their music broke many color barriers as we began to realize that we all had much more in common than we were told.
What an extraordinary comment!!
Yeah, great observation @Jeff …. Also, AM Top 40 radio of the 1960’s reflected your point, by featuring a musically and racially integrated playlist (for the most part).
For me Motown hit you in your heart..Stax hit you in your Soul..lol
I absolutely agree with everything written..it was magical!!!..I lived in Macon and went to Otis funeral that clear December day in 1967!!!
@@chasbodaniels1744 In my area, you did not here Otis on AM radio. They did play black artists like Motown, Atlantic, some Stax, others, but it was mostly mainstream rock n' roll, Beatles, Beach Boys...
The Stax house band was phenomenal.
Ya man just outrageous!
incredible
Amen 🙏🏻
the best!!!!!!
Dunn & Cropper; simply the Best of their time!
“Duck” hadn’t discovered his trademark pipe yet, it seems.
yeah, what a joy to hear this combination.
I dunno about that. They were great, but Jamerson, Willis, Grant, Messina, and Coffey were writing and layin' down some unforgettable rhythmic riffs, up the road a ways, in a place called Motown, about the same time.
@@bustabass9025Don't forget the incredible Robert White.
Otis and James Brown.... The irresistible black energy...
I saw this tour at the Finsbury Park Astoria in London. I wish I could relive that night. Such a privilege to have been part of it.
Lucky you !!!
I remember the tour came to the Birmingham Odeon - I so wished I'd gone now!
Saw it at the Upper cut twice on the sane day, afternoon and evening, they worked hard in those days
Was there as well Brenda. Doesn't get any better than that!
Uppercut, I saw Jimi Hendrix play there, where he wrote Purple Haze on Dec 1966
❤this world needs all that soul for the mind and body without it our souls will be lost forever
If it happen to you passing this way, stay a moment and enjoy the real music of the sixteen to understand that nowadays the beauty is over. And we all can do is to pray for it because it will never come back. Otherwise everything is and has his time. Men
my favorite aritsit of all time! my elvis!
****OTIS REDDING****
Otis put Elvis to shame!
Great unforgettable artist who left this world all of a sudden !!!
The golden era of music. 1960’s and 1970’s.
Rare film . I love the Motown acts , but this is the legend of Stax delivering their version .
I can’t pick between Stax or Motown I love Soul ! Philly Soul is great as well !
Motown/Gordy/Tamla/Soul was a big part of my 45 RPM record collection, not as many Stax, none by Otis ~ went straight to much played LPs for him. I also loved James Brown, Wilson PIckett, Little Anthony & the Imperials ~ I could not say I love type of music over the other. When I categorized my records I decided R & B, Soul was my preferred gene ~ music I loved enough to buy.
🌹🙏 The World Misses Otis Redding..
Duck Dunn on bass was also soulful!
Killer bass player !
check out his reaction at 7:25!
Amen to that even Charlie Watts of the Rolling stones cited Charlie Watts as getting his style and groove from Al Jackson I've been a drummer all my life and I only wish that I could cop that Groove
Never has there ever been a better drummer than the human timekeeper Al Jackson Jr.
He was little al Jackson Jr to me and a close friend
He also admired my late cousin, country singer Charley Pride as he told me himself
I grew up alone side his son beaver Jackson
Yeah, he was bad
Amen
I can’t believe it great to see real musicians from my era Booker T &MG, Otis the top of the cream & Sam& Dave remembering my brother I thought he was cool when he use to dancing playing all these songs records & me 13 teens the silky iridescent pants 😊❤my favorite was Try a little Tenderness &Green onions
Soul men. Love the Stax sound,
How many audience members realized they were witnessing musical greatness? Holy cow!
All of them!
Otis Redding one Stacks legend.
My thoughts right now in 2023. I watch this every time mind blown I know that crowd knows it’s great but little did they know nothing will ever compare
Otis the man, the legend ... What can I say
Ive been trying to figure out how to reply to your message. When i click on reply it goes to a comment page that you are not on. This phone is going goofy for lack of memory so im told. Thanks for your positive message. It is greatly appreciated. I wish you health and happiness. Thanks again.
Ps. I hope you get this Reason*
I still miss Otis. What a great performer.
I miss him too.
Otis man. I was only a year old when he died but my dad schooled me on his greatness at an early age. He was phenomenal live. Gone way too soon.
Same age
best Soul ever
New music sucks so bad that I bet if somebody put this kind of stuff on the radio a lot of young people would love it. It's truly timeless. It's time for another revolution, why not start with the music! 🙂
When Memphis came to Oslo. Props to NRK for recording this priceless piece of musical history...
Stax, the story of soul, ❤️❤️, great big Otis redding, the king 🙏💓💪💪 y love 🌹
It's really great to actually see all these soul stars play these songs! I couldn't help playing Green Onions over and over - what a rhythm section and what a lesson in how to drive a 4/4 beat!!!
The very best!
I've do e that many times over the years
The unique sounds of STAX records in the 60s was my favorite. Never quite made it to the numbers that Motown did, but thay had that QUALITY!
This is what you call REAL R&B music. What electrifying performers and songwriters. No songs with 6 different producers and 12 different writers with autotuning.
Afuckenmen!!
Truth Indeed AMEN
You got it
I agree with you about the 12 different songwriters writing one song. The most that should be writing on one song is three.
It doesn't get any better than this. These guys are the best when it comes to R&B. Everyone so freakin' talented. And the fun they seemed to be having..... unmatched!
The tightest rythym section ever
Very talented good old days when musicians actually sang!!
Otis singing Try a little Tenderness was his greatest song before he was so tragically killed in the plane crash, who knows how good he would have become
Yes, but it seems most know him for Dock of the Bay. I loved so many of his songs ~ Pain in My Heart, That's How Strong My Love Is, I've Been Loving You Too Long, Love Man...
As hot as you can get it. Like a damn hot chilli. Booker T and his guys are laying a pocket as tight as you can imagine it. Oh lord, and then the Memphis Horns. I am an atheist, but here I am yelling "oh praise the lord"
WONDERFUL moment in time and piece of history. NOT one band or musician today compares to these ARTISTS. Booker T & the MGs are simply AMAZING.
Man… to be at this concert must been 🔥🔥🔥☄️☄️☄️
It was☺👌
Seeing Dunn, Cropper, Booker T. et al in full flow is, kind of, life affirming.
I LOVE THIS,OTIS REDDING, SAM AND DAVE BOOKER T AND THE MGS.THE BEST PERFORMANCES. LOVE YALL
Black Magic - Melanin superiority. Natural music and movement abilities and Pioneers of all music style
Wow, it’s like a church revival. Otis. Sam and Dave, booker T and the MGS . These guys were amazing performers, I love Otis and sam Moore 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
3:13, Duck Dunn doing his thing!
Man! It would be great to have been able to hang out with that band for a couple of weeks! Or any of the famous 60s rhythm sections: The Funk Brothers, Muscle Shoals, and The Wrecking Crew, etc.
Keith to see these dude's singing until total exhaustion giving it all they got .nothing but incredible .not miss a beat either.Raw Talent !
Otis' phrasing is amazing. He can pull so far back behind the beat and still land the next line on 1. Frank Sinatra was another guy I heard who could do that.
I was stationed in south side Virginia in 67-68. I went out to clubs every weekend..the bands all seemed to have this style and format. It was a great time for live music..
THIS is a fantastic lineup of brilliant artists! Love live Stax recordings!
Stax had some really funky folks in their lineup ,wicked Funky!
It's a treat to see the unrestrained joy shown by Donald "Duck" Dunn and Steve Cropper as they back Otis and Sam & Dave. They're having a helluva good time.
they had the best seat in the house
I love to see musicians playing well and having fun at a gig.
That's got to be one of the greatest back up bands in history! I hate to say back up because their legends!
FANTASTIC, WHAT ENERGY ! MY ERA , LOVED IT.
Duck Dunne looks so young.
Otis, booker t , sam and dave , just legend 🔥
Really unfair here. Booker T. & THE MG's w/Cropper & DUCK! no less, backing arguably the greatest soul singer ever in OTIS REDDING. I luv it.
THANKS FOR THE TENDERNESS : MAKES ME CRY EVERY SINGLE TIME I HEAR IT ..... GOD BLESS YA'LL !!!!!
Otis Redding... with me since 1967. 💔
The shake was played at my junior high school sock hop. What a lively dance tune.
That's what I call real music. What energy!
Can^t get enough of that drumming - Al Jackson forever.
Otis Redding! What a talent- what a loss
Great stuff right here kids. Pay attention to a great free lesson. This is what you call showmanship. Being a good player isn't going to cut it if you want to make it.
Truth Indeed AMEN
I saw this when I was 21. Best show ever and since
Real soul. Blues. Jazz
Even though they can't stand each other Sam and Dave were superb singers.
Otis was such a dynamic live performer. I’m glad that they were able to capture this footage.
The crowd was told by security not to move around and dance. That irritated Otis as well as Sam and Dave. That's why they cranked it up at the end of the songs. You can see the security try and move in.
Duck Dunn and Cropper.
Omg, goodmorning this a.m. headed to work jammin to this gem..good God, it dont get any better. Thanks for the upload.
WHAT a show!!! WOW
Dunn and Cropper, so young!
that version of Satisfaction rules. what a performer Redding was. Giving everything you got. id fkn pass out doin that.
Steve cropper,so many great songs
Fantastic love Otis and the trumpet playing is outstanding!
Nobody could put it out there , like Otis and Booker T. & M.G. s !
Amazing.
OTIS Redding was truly one of THE GREATEST. HE taught Janis Joplin how to sing and deliver a song.
I've seen Otis Redding perform on film (Monterey Pop, etc.), but this video is when I realized his immense talent. And such a natural singer with on-point phrasing and rhythm.
a lot of artists didn't want to follow Sam & Dave on stage. Double Dynamite.
The whole band just rocks "Green Onions." An unforgettable performance.
WOW ! Big Otis , Sam & Dave ,Steve Cropper, Booker T Jones,Al Jackson , Donald Dunn & The Mar Keys
- What else better than this , can you get ? Pure Real SOUL ! Xavier Ladmer .
I was there in Cardiff UK Top Rank. Sensational Gig. All that talent in one place for one night. Will never forget it.
oh man... to have a time machine !
Phenomenal! Wow never saw Sam and Dave live. They can really dance! Thanks for this legendary concert! 🔥
Amazing 👏 👏👏👍👍
Cynthia Langley I saw them. No words can describe the impact.
@Cynthia Langley
I haven't reached that part yet of Sam and Dave's performance here...but I don't think it is the mind boggling energy, dancing, singing, and their all and all that was in their performance that truly showcased their jaw dropping dance moves working up a hellacious sweat giving their all and all that is unforgettable and hopefully all those who appreciate and enjoy that rare type of talent. If you haven't seen Sam & Dave's performance where they sing "Hold On, I'm Coming", please do yourself an unforgettable favor and type that right here in the YB search, make sure it's the video where they're performing before an audience. I'm assuming that event took place in the middle or late 1960s. It is an epic performance and it is mesmerizing right up to the very end. Damn they sure could entertain.
Speaking of moves, Otis Redding is also stunningly mesmerizing. What an incredibly talented, handsome man. So fine indeed.
.
@@4rowsee174 Otis was a powerhouse
I did twice in this tour, they were brilliant, but Otis was amazing
Great lineup of amazing artists the big O;.
And don’t forget, Eddie “Knock on Wood” Floyd, Carla Thomas and the Mar-Keys were also on this tour.
Yes, I saw it in London, twice on the same day, not many artistes would do that nowadays, both performances were amazing👌🇬🇧
Nobody could groove like The Big O.
Booker T and the MGs,le meilleur groupe ayant accompagne O.Redding
I’m SO JEALOUS my parents, grandparents got the opportunity to witness such musical talent & showmanship. I was born in 84..😩
There's only one thing better than listening to Otis ,Sam and Dave .Wilson etc ! Thats dancing to them! And Green Onions, well light years ahead!
Thanks for posting this. I never had seen a performance of Green Onions. Pretty kewl 😍
Love this STAX sound. They really had those instruments tuned up tight. 🤎❤️💜💛💚🧡💙💖
To be treasured forever, great footage!
this is amazing footage of these legends in their prime! Thank you for sharing
Otis was So COOL!! And Booker T & The MG's! Wow! WooF!
For the record:
Personnel
Booker T. & the M.G.s
Booker T. Jones - Hammond organ
Steve Cropper - guitar
Donald Dunn - bass guitar
Al Jackson Jr. - drums
This is from an April 7 1967 Norwegian TV recording of the legendary Stax/Volt Revue European tour of that year. Other audio-only live recordings have popped up (England & France), but this is the sole studio video recording. Booker T and The M.G.'s opened and stood as the backing band for the entire show, augmented by The Mar-Keys (official moniker) on horns for the singers: Arthur Conley, Eddie Floyd, Sam & Dave and, fittingly last, Otis Redding.
While back in '09 PBS ran a shortened version of the full-length DVD of the show (via the Stax/Volt Museum), neither have been uploaded to YT in their entirety. So, individual performances are out there, but you're gonna have to dig.
Also, if you come upon vids w screaming audiences, that's likely the London show (lower quality - but rewarding nevertheless).
Good luck & ENJOY!
Thanks for the profound informations.
Donald Dunn lives the Soul
I am enjoying. 😁
Thanks for sharing this
Thanks for that info, must have been an incredible night!
And Irma Thomas????
Saw Otis Redding's last performance live at Leo's Casino in Cleveland, Ohio in December of 1967. Fantastic showman.
That's. HOW IT DONE PERFORMANCES real music real musianians glad I was born to hear this music was a youngin
This is when you believed in your music, you lived for your time on the stage..you gave it all your might..look at their delivery..they walked off that stage drenched in sweat..soulful..the best.Hold on I'm coming...this is my church..hold on im coming...this music is universal.!!!!
