    I love to take foil pockets. Just add some sausage, potatoes, mushroom, beans and other veggies. Wrap in 2 or 3 layers of foil. 20-25 min on coals! Best campsite meal :)

    When a water filter is not used for a while and it gets totally dry inside, it will not work instantly the next time you use it again. The filter is not damaged. It just takes some time for the inside of the filter to re-hydrate in order for the water to flow thru it smoothly. I always re-hydrate it at home for like 20-30 minutes the night before or morning of your outing, and it works as it should. I can't say for certain this is why your filter was not working, but seems possible.

    They have chicken in the tin foil packs found in the same section as tuna fish that go well in tacos. Also Walmart has an Imusa egg frying pan with lid for like $6-7. It's a fun diy ultralight frying pan. I replaced the knob of the lid with triangle picture hangers to look and function like the toaks lid, and drilled a snot load of holes in the plastic fry handle. Haha and for bacon I found it best not to worry about the bacon being straight. Just fill the pan full of bacon cut in like 1/3 length. It basically deepfries itself.

    Bryce, I have to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. They're like an outdoor, adventure, comedy video. Secondly, I'll let you know that you and I are two peas in a pod because although I'm at the age and stage in life I only hike now and no longer backpack, in my day our styles, habits, and attitudes were almost identical. There were few things I enjoyed more than cutting wood, building a fire, and enjoy a nice beer...or few. The more rustic and rough the terrain and camp, the better. One tip I'll share buddy. You're making the coffee thing much too complicated. You don't need the bags and paraphernalia. Simply put the grounds in the pot, simmer them to your taste, and let the pot sit for just a bit. The grounds will all settle to the bottom and unless the slosh it around you can drink it just fine with no grounds. Give it a try.

  • @vahikertrash543
    @vahikertrash543 Před 2 lety

    Entertaining video. I can attest to pot bacon working. It's better with a pot hook in my experience. BTW I've found that you need to backflush the Squeeze before use if it's been sitting dry for a while. I think it needs to get saturated in order to work. Try it out before you toss it. It's part of my pre-trip process now. Also the Uberlite is insulated. It just doesn't have the reflective material. Which wears out pretty quickly anyway. Just hold an xlite up to the sun and you'll see all the parts where the reflective material has worn clear.

    ... coming from low altitude ,, try to arrive near trail head altitude one preferably two days before hitting the trail hard ..... drink plenty of water ,, carry plenty of water ,, take ibuprofen each morning for the aches and pains ..... leave the beers for the end celebration ..... most of the Colorado Trail is at or over 10K Ft. .. some people just don't adjust ....... If nauseous or severe headache ..STOP,, rest a little while , if discomfort persists .... go back to lower altitude .. exit trail if possible ...

    My brand new Sawyer Squeeze also didn't work on me while I was hiking the Trans-Catalina Trail. I messaged them about it, and they told me to soak it in hot water, and then back-flush hot water through the filter. It ended up working after that, but I also am not sure if I want to trust that one. I've already had one freeze on me as well!

    Tried canned beef? I usually carry a meat cut, it's something like 80% pork 15% beef and 5% fat, throw that into a pan full of oil and fry till pitch black, preferably cover with spices and eat as fast as possible before the fat solidifies and the meats spread apart again and the cut becomes inedible
