We moved to an old farmhouse 6 years ago and in the barn I found one of my best treasures! It was an old milking trough! It was full of junk that been sitting it it for years. I saw it and knew exactly what I wanted to do with it, I made (with my husband's help) turned it into a flower bed! It is such a beautiful piece on my brick patio! The previous owner said he hopes his wife never sees it cause she will be upset that they left it! Ones man junk, another man's treasure!

Lilac bushes attract my huge bumble bees, hummingbirds, etc. They come back every year. I have some that are 25 yrs old, and the flowers they produce smell heavenly every May. I have cuttings all over my house for 2-3 wks.

Lilacs are my absolute favorite. When I lived in NY I had a nice tree that produced beautiful, fragrant flowers. Now, in south Florida, lilacs don't grow. The closest we can get are crepe myrtles but they're just not the same.

Firstly, I absolutely adore you! You're so natural on camera which makes it fun to watch you. Secondly, can you come out to my homestead and decorate it for me? I have about as much creative talent for decorating as a rock. Thank goodness when we bought this place the previous owners were the decorating types so I am limping along some of the cute things they left behind.

Scored 8 inch tall bleeding hearts at the Master Gardener's plant sale for 50 cents each. Our county sells more than two dozen types of bare root trees for $1.10 each including Cherry, Hazelnut, Serviceberry, Lilac and Plum every spring. We grow tomato and peppers from seed and barter with the neighbors for excess ornamental plants from their yards. Scarlett Runner beans make great hedges (on fences) or trellis - the hummingbirds and bees love them. Plant some milkweed (in a container) for the monarch butterflies.

An interesting little known fact: Roses have very similar needs and are affected by the same diseases as grape vines. In California, where my father lived, the farmers plant beautiful boarders of rose bushes around their vineyards. If the roses get to feeling poorly, the farmers have time to take action before the "blight" has time to take hold in the vineyard. Great video! Full of great ideas. Would like to see your barn quilt sometime. Kiss Mr. Peaches for us, we love you both!🐱

Hey lady, I'll do you one better! I go to my Lowes several times each summer and buy discount. BUT, at my store if you fill an entire rack (the tall ones with 4-5 levels on it) with plants from the discount rack, you get EVERYTHING FOR 10cents on the dollar of the sale price!!! It's the most exciting part of my year. Last year I racked up. I got about 10 knock out roses, which were on sale for 5 bucks each, for 50 cents each! I bought so much stuff I had to ride down the road with my head out the window! But people here have caught on and I have to watch the sale rack like a hawk now in order to catch it full. They won't do it until mid summer when everything is dry, dying and they're getting new shipments in and need room. But I can bring something back to life that looks like a dry dead stick in dirt, so anything half dead, especially perennial, I buy! Cut it back, water it. Voila.

Re-use, recycle, and re purpose. Colored bowling balls line the paths in the back yard, interspersed with petrified red cedar rocks from a friend's farm in NE TN. found used brick and pieces of slate made the round patio outside the back door, surrounding a cast iron fire pit given to me by a friend. Paths have river rock from TN rivers---and always, always flowers, many from cuttings or seed given by friends. Yard sales and thrift shops are my friend. Imagination is a wonderful thing.

I've got all my own seed heads from years of collecting from my flowers.....coneflowers that are generations old, zinnias that get 3 feet tall, assorted sunflower seeds, and tons of celosia seeds. They literally plant themselves in the cracks of my steps and driveway and are even more tolerant to heat, drought and abuse /neglect than coneflowers! You literally just have to throw these seeds out and they spring up! The next best thing to perennials!

Dont just feed sugar water to the hummingbirds. Buy Jumex nectars in the can and feed them that. They go crazy for that nectar.
