This is one of the best songs Peter Gabriel ever produced.
It’s one of the best Anyone ever produced
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Absolutely @Charlotte
I keep coming back, I sing along as the emptiness fills my heart
100%. Peter Gabriel is one the greatest songwriters if not the greatest of all time
His voice sells it.
That’s your opinion Charlotte
Dodged a bullet with this song for my wedding. I absolutely love this song. Marriage failed, and thankfully we never used it. But! It's still mine!

What could more beautiful than a doorway to a thousand churches...
a door way to thousand and one churches?
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
I see your comment everywhere
@@__Ryan_ that’s because there are so many songs that have the same effect. I’m honored that my comment has struck a nerve with so many people
@@__Ryan_ dude let the man be nostalgic about his 80s music.
What are some other songs that hit you on the same level? I feel the same way. One of the great pros of most people being on the internet now is being able to relate on these emotions. Much love.
Nostalgia can be a real bitch.
Last time, I actually loved a woman. This was our song. It's been a long time since 1991.
Love I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
All my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes
Love, I don't like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive
And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
The heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
Lost my wife to cancer in less than three months. This song means so much to me.
'In her eyes, the light, the heat, in her eyes, in her eyes, I felt complete, in her eyes'.
Thank you for making me cry and also feel better.
She was my world, and our 2 daughters world, gone too soon at 42 from cancer.
Thank you Peter Gabriel and my heart goes out to all living beings.

Thank you for your likes/loves.
My pain and that of my family's is no less than anyone's and reading the incredible comments from others about what this song means to them too made my heart sing and my heart and love goes out to you all.
I'm blown away that my comment was highlighted and I've no idea if this is actually Peter Gabriel's official page, nor do I care.
The honour and respect goes to him for making such beautiful music.
I don't think I should admit this, but my late wife and I would make love to the album 'Passion' a lot over our amazing almost 17 years together.

Such a raw beautiful song. No auto tune or generic millennial whoop. People often say that things were better in the old days and are clearly deluded but when it comes to music they are totally correct.
This song is so layered and the lyrics so hauntingly beautiful. Maybe I am alone in this, but the lyrics are helping me work through childhood trauma…
Yes. I just watched a video that this doctor talks about how this song to him is about the child version of us. How we abandon that version of us. How to heal we have to reconnect with that child. It’s our younger us looking towards us to be the parents/ love we didn’t have. Listening to it that way has me crying for that child it’s so beautiful.
Keep on the healing journey! God Bless!❤

Peter Gabriel is a musical genius. This song is a classic example of his ability to encapsulate pure emotion in time.
I was lucky enough to see him in Toronto in September! Wonderful
Hard to believe that he was at one time on same band as Phil Collins
He didn’t write the song
@@bouche8503 He sure did. 1985. He wrote it and others during a trip to Barcelona Spain.

Definitely an unforgettable song.
I don't think Peter knew how powerful of an impact this song would be on any and everyone.
He wanted it to have an impact on Rosanna Arquette who the song was written for...
I’m 50 now and growing up in the 80’s as a teenager when “SO “ album came out was amazing , my dad introduced it to me while driving around in his new Ford Orion ghia injection and I still love it now ! To tell someone that their eyes are so brilliant that their beauty far exceeds that of "a thousand churches", is probably the most profound compliment you can ever pay someone.
Oh why doesn't anybody say that to meee? 💜💥

@@paperclips4113 Say it to somebody else. Hold the person you want to be held by and tell them the lovely things you want them to say. Be the love you wish the receive, and maybe you'll never see the need to receive it.
Because the compliment he's paying is not to a person. It's too an entity. There's only an entire video venerating ya mans that puts one arm up, and the other pointed down. I can't elaborate further.

The epitome of an ‘80s masterpiece. There are not enough words to fully summarize the 1980s. While never perfect, such a memorable decade in the course of human history when the world seemed a little less dark. Feels increasingly like it will never come again. 😔 My sincerest thanks for sharing this timeless classic. 🙏🏻
Life was simpler
@@kapa4163for you maybe, I was glad they ended for a million reasons. But send me back to 1980 and I would rule the world again .✌️
We were younger and life was simpler, the internet and phones hadn't taken over our lives yet to make us feel so overwhelmed and helpless about the terrible things mankind does. But there are still good days ahead, and even good music. However, we are so lucky to have experienced it and will always have it, thanks to the internet (that double edged sword). Much peace and love ❤️

Brilliant!...so much emotion...loved "I grieve" too, helped me get thru my mums death
The older I become the more I realise how lucky we were to live with great artists- none better than this genius.
Music is mathematical and we use mathematics to understand the universe. Musicians touch the face of Creation. Peter Gabriel is a spiritual master.
@@shellyfagan5794 Sure I like Peter Gabriel, but that's a bit of a bold statement, fair play to you.
@@shellyfagan5794 I remember Phil Collins in an interview. The interviewer said, wow your songs are so deep so meaningful, where does that come from? His reply was no where I just write they don't mean any thing. I personally thought that was a fabulous answer. Singers writers etc aren't spiritual masters, sure they are creative but we all are. The power to give birth is more of a spiritual connection to the universe than writing or singing a song.
@@shellyfagan5794 well said lady
So true
I honestly think Peter Gabriel is Angel Gabriel, speaking to our souls within our hearts ♥️
Yes he is
"Love, I don't like to see so much pain". That bittersweet line can apply to SO MANY SITUATIONS & fit all of them perfectly.
Nostalgia is such an intriguing emotion. If you have the ability to go back and relive the 'exact moment' makes you so happy,, and when you go back to the present it's saddening. So you keep going back to the moment. They say to move forward in life, but if you relive the past and it gives you happiness, then you are the boss and do as you wish.
