Prior to WW2, Iran was already a reluctant participant in global affairs due to the imperial ambitions of both Britain and Russia. The two empires opted to split then-Persia’s lands into a northern and southern sphere of influence claimed by Russia and Britain respectively. The outbreak of the WW1 saw some of Persia’s lands already under occupation, but the nation opted to declare neutrality nonetheless. As a bid to maintain this neutrality, Persia requested that Russia withdraw its occupation forces contemporarily in Azerbaijan in hopes of deterring any further invasion by the likes of nearby nations such as the Ottoman Empire. The plan failed to come to fruition, however, as the Russians declined the Persian appeal and held their ground. This led to increased tensions between the Russian and Ottoman Empires and only further pushed the Persians into a corner as they now had 3 empires closing in on their borders - all fighting wars against one another with Persia standing as the indisposed battleground.

The Great Reza Shah had partnership relations with Nazi Germany prior to the start of WW2. At the time, almost no political leader outside of Germany really knew about the true intentions of Adolf Hitler including Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, President Franklin Roosevelt or even Josef Stalin even though his book Mein Kampf had been published throughout Europe. This partnership slowly helped Iran to put its paralyzed economy back on track. But the combined British and Soviet invasion of August 1941 which took place despite Great Reza Shah not having any involvement with the war in Europe, disrupted this progress and Iran was occupied, and the Great Reza Shah was taken to South Africa by the British where he passed away in 1944.

1:09 There's an error here. The request of the Persian government to the Russians regarding the withdrawal of occupational forces was about Iranian Azerbaijan, which at the time was the only Azerbaijan since what is now the republic of Azerbaijan (which is marked here) was known by other names, only in 1918 the new government in Baku, the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic, appropriated the name Azerbaijan.
Also modern day republic of Azerbaijan had been part of Russia back then for like more than a century, it doesn't make sense for the weak Persian government to ask Russia about the forces there, while [Iranian] Azerbaijan was Iranian territory under Russian influence and military occupation so it makes sense to at least make a the demand, even though it was futile.

In WW1 around 11 million Iranians were killed by the allies as they took all the food and prevented food from getting imported (over 40% of the population). In WW2 2-4 millions Iranians were killed by the allies for the same reasons. The allies would even force the farmers to work on the railways instead so it improves their war effort. At the time when both the soviets and Germans would send polish jews to forced labor camps, iran welcomed hundreds of thousands of poles to their country even though they had so many issues of their own caused by the allies. Unfortunately, NO ONE TALKS ABOUT THE CRIMES/GENOCIDE COMMITED BY THE ALLIES

This video is very inaccurate in multiple areas. Foremost, Reza khan was not sympathetic to the 3rd Reich, he simply wanted to diversify his economy and be less dependent on the British, so he used German equipment and consultants in some cases, but the British government used it as justification for the invasion. He was also the one who started improving the living conditions of religious minorities, not his son. His modernizing effort was also quite successful. Universities, railroads, banks, posts, and many industries entered or developed under his leadership, not to mention significant improvement to women and minorities rights. Probably the best ruler of Iran in the last 500 years.

  • @hoomantf

    There multiple mistakes in here:
    • First and most important, Iran was always Iran. The word Persia is a word given by ancient Greeks to a province in the southwest of Iran which we still have today a province with the same name. It is like you refer to the country America California. Reza shah just asked that during the international Communications, use the name Iran. That's all.
    • There is only one city named Zahedan in the south east of the country
    • The city in the north east of Iran is named Mashhad not Mechhed. Also it is not on the border as depicted here (although it is near)
    • The word Bandar means Sea Port & there is no city Bandar in Iran. We have cities like Bandar Abbas, Bandar Boushehr,.... but not simply Bandar
Also, Reza Shah wasn't on friendly terms with Hitler as it is suggested. He had hired some foreign advisor from different countries including Germany, United states, ... for modernizing Iran. He was really against communism and Hitler saw that and tried to convince Reza shah and even sent him some gifts for different occasions to join him but Reza shah was also very concerned about what Hitler was doing and preferred to be neutral. By a little googling you can also find documents and archives about Radio Berlin always attacking Reza shah because of his Refusal to join Hitler.
At the end the Allied forces attacked Iran with claiming that the German Advisors were Hitler's forces and they are setting up bases of operation which in fact was not right at all and the real reason was partly Reza shah's refusal to join the war and also the best and almost only way to send weapons to Soviet Union at that time.

  • @loner1562
    @loner1562 Před 2 měsíci +3

The truth is that the country has always been referred to as "Iran" from millenniums ago and was only called Persia by western states and later became the official name on the maps. But in all the centuries it was always called "Iran" by the locals, even during the Qajar era the name Iran was the only term used by the governments. What Reza Shah the great did was to only make the change for international scene.
P.S: Also to remember, if Reza Shah was that much of a close friend to Hitler, then there wouldn't probably be thousands of Jewish people finding refuge in Iran during his reign.

Iran historically from thousand of years ago was called Iran. Herodotus called Iranians Persians as Achaemenid Empire were mainly Persians at the time.
Later on British and other Europeans referred Iran as Persia, as western historians sourced by Herodotus very much!
Hitler used many of Iranian symbols used by Iranians from +5000 years ago in the era of Mithraism and Zoroastrianism!
Him the evil(Hitler) unethically misused the symbols such as ‌ گردانه ی مهر/گردانه ی خورشید
Or as Westerners refe to (broken cross or swastika) to serve as his evil ideology!
The meaning of this symbol has nothing to do with what Nazi Germany portrayed of it!
Also name of Iran (the land of Aryan) wasn't a symbol racism or superiority , and it simply refers to the people who lived and living on Iranian Plateau.
Iran( land of Aryan people) also refers to Iranian culture and civilization.

The Nazi racial policies stemmed from ideas belonging to a circle of German intellectuals who believed the Germans are the pure Nordic race and they went everywhere to spread the Aryan race, and according to them, the Iranians are in fact Aryan although mixed yet not “inferior” in the sense of being an entirely different race.

I want to emphasize that Iran’s government & Iran’s people are 2 distinct entities but history has proved that a strong Iranian presence in other counties is needed because this country has a higher chance of survival to fight against its enemies in neighboring countries due to Iran’s rich resources & its geopolitical location in order to fend off greedy eyes

I have met Iranian people, they are among the nicest ever! We helped a dude from Iran who’s jet ski broke down out on the lake by towing it, never met the dude and haven’t seen him since but he said we’d always be welcome at his house. I find most middle eastern/central Asian people to be this way.

Some of the information in this video is not accurate. Reza shah wasn’t on "remarkably friendly terms with Adolf Hitler". Iran had industrial and economic partnerships with Germany prior to WW2 and wished to continue such partnerships during the war as well. The allies told Iran to back off from those partnerships and Iran, as a neutral country, declined this demand. Therefore, the allies invaded. Moreover, Hitler believed that the superior race is the Aryan race which guess what? is a shared race between Germany and Iran. Iran literally means land of the Aryans in early Persian. Persia was an Aryan tribe. So even if it was an alliance, it wasn't an unusual one.

Post Cold-War, India has tried to avoid being too strongly aligned with any side. But they are pretty much trying to squeeze what they can out of any side while trying to keep free of entangling treaties.

You are right. And once we recognize the 20th century as part of then, not part of now, we can even we can even recognize the usual brutal historical ironies-so typical of the ultimate storyteller The historical narrative of the 20th century-a Shakespearean tragedy, as bitter as it is funny-if anything colder than hell can be funny. It shares nothing except for (mostly) the facts with the official narrative, which is an almost pagan myth of good and evil But it shares little more, and often less, with most attempts to revise that narrative-which tend to simply invert the official myth.

Your right, allies didn't invade Iran for what it's considered as being part of the axis or being sympathetic to them but to form a route from the British empire to the Soviet union. The Soviet union was in a bad place and without British and US support it would fall. Before approaching Germany Reza shah tried to ask British assistance to form industries in Iran and they replied to him that you are inferior and sub human. After that Iran asked of axis block like Germany, Austria, Swiss and Czech Slovakia for help and they provided. many of our industries formed with their help. Even further Germans not only didn't disrespect us but they considered us as part of the Aryans tribe.but it ended with invasion and subsequent famine which killed millions of people. to this day Iranians hate allies.

I understand you may feel that way! But from thousand of years ago, Iranian called their homeland IRAN and in all of our history and cultural heritage and literature Iran was called Iran. Iran is very dear name to us and it's one aspect of our identity and Civilization. It's way more than just a name. But the Greek historian Herodotus called Iranians Persian, as at the time the Achaemenid Empire were mainly Persians (one of Iranian ethnicities) ruling along side with other Iranian ethnic groups. However Herodotus didn't know any better at the time and only named Iranian Civilization as the Persian. Therefore later on the name of Persia was adopted by Western historians as well as western countries. For example the neighbors of Iran , historically name Iran as Iran like Turkey or Armenian or Georgians or even Indians. But British people always refered to Iran as Persia. In Germany people call themselves and their homeland as Deutsch and Deutschland! But English people call them German! The Great Reza Shah asked international society to call and refer our homeland IRAN as what historically it always was named. I hope I could enlight you as why Iran is the correct name. ❤ درود بر تو هوزه رودریگز ❤
