    I ordered a Marto last week. I was a kid in the 1980's, and have always loved this sword's design. Although I love knives and swords, I've never been into collecting fantasy swords... but I think that's about to change when I get my hands on it.

      Hello, congratulations to your new sword then, my Friend ... enjoy it. Maybe you will find that this sword has a surprisingly agile handling ... i like the long 2-hand grip. Cheers, Erik

    Yeah Jody Sampson worked on my atlantean sword before he passed away. I don't know what I'll end up doing with it probably end up giving it to a relative. Was really cool getting what I said about the sword published in their book about the atlantean. Finally picked up the father's sword, I was kind of surprised about it, I was expecting the guard to be more solid. $4000.00 price tag, probably will never sell it. I've got an Excalibur sword. It's going to 5160 spring steel blade. Surprisingly the atlantean sword is easier to hold than the Excalibur is. I suppose it's the distal taper. The Excalibur sword doesn't have any it makes the blade heavy.

    Thank you Erik for your careful and detailed filming of both these swords. As I read the comments and I'm baffled that nobody even mentions the width and shape of the fuller (the groove which stretches along the middle of the blade), and how the edges are ended just before the ricasso. In fact the complete profile of the blade (if you would cut/break the blade at about middle and look at the profile) are very different. The Albion looks like in the film, the Windlass looks off, not at all like in the film. I understand the price differs alot, but I'd rather save up and buy the Albion one, before even considering a Windlass copy. Windlass otherwise make OK swords, I recently bought a viking sword on ebay, but someone should point out this to them so that they'd put more effort on crafting that blade, as the Atlantean blade is not a good repro at the moment.

    Very much enjoyed your comparison of the Albion, Windlass and Chinese Atlantean swords. I was wondering if you could do an update featuring the marto swords toledo version which is priced roughly twice that of the Windlass version. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on whether or not the additional cost of the Marto is worth the investment over the Windlass.

    Torn between Marto and Windlass.
    Windlass has the better steel, but the Marto has correct rune etching.
    The laser etching on the windlass is a real give away, but better steel.

      Hi Mark,i did not modify the Windlass myself .. however, when i received it, it was covered in plenty of grease or oil. Really a lot, i had to clean it from all this grease ... it might be that it had an effect on the polishing. The blade seemed to be of good Quality. Meanwhile, i have sold my Windlass again, so right now I have only the Albion Atlantean, but not the Windlass and not the Chinese copy. Best Erik

    hello erik, i hope you can help me out with something i encountered. ive seen two versions of the atlantean sword, both around the same price. one is a marto toledo stainless steel version, and the windlass version you have. which is the better quality blade as it says the windlass sword is carbon steel. as i will be buying one this year but want to make sure i get the best for the money of around £260 in the uk. Tho i would love the proper replica but i dont have a few thousand pounds floating around ha.
    but if you or anyone knows of the differences between the toledo and the windlass sword, i would be most greatful. thanks and great vid.

      I like the idea of the windlass steel been like a real sword, but I see the detail is a bit better on the Marto and the runes are etched like real one, the windlass is laser etched...gives it away.

    My atlantean the handle material is darker than yours, could be the lighting on the phone. Monitor in other words. But the wrapping around mine is more of an orangish red. It's an Albion atlantean it's number 4. I guess the blade material is different too it's 5160 spring steel albion changed it later on.

    I have an Albion Destroyer as well as the one from Windlass and I can stay unequivocally that the Windlass version has hilt components made of pot metal, not bronze. If it were bronze that sword would not be $300. It would be far more. So many parts of that sword are subpar if you know what to look for. Also while the handle of the Albion is made from stabilized birch, the Windlass version is literally a hollow metal tube, far from being suitable for a sword handle.

    • @eirha
      @eirha Před 8 lety

      +Mehmet Yılmazt To answer your question to him. The Marto Atlantean looks nice, but it's blade is made of stainless steel so it's to brittle to be functional and would be dangerous to use (both for the one handling the sword and others) so its only suitable as a display piece.
      Windlass steelcrafts version have a blade made by carbon steel which is suitable to be used for cutting tests and real combat.

    • @shaunw1966
      @shaunw1966 Před 5 lety +2

      I'd say Marto is more close to Albion! I had a Marto once and ended up selling it, needed the extra cash. But I don't know why people gripe about the Marto version, yes to me it was nothing more then a high-end show piece and it showed but it was also more solid and the bronze do not rub off! So for that I would definitely order another Marto again, then after I will get a windlass out of curiosity.

  • @edstar83

    The awesome thing about Windlass swords is they're hand forged the traditional way. Albion swords are machine made.

    • @treadstone1138
      @treadstone1138 Před rokem

      Yes and no. The Windlass ones are decent but the QC is absent. The fullers on them are atrocious and not at all even or refined. While the Albion ones are cut from a piece of steel they are still hand ground and polished. And they are a higher quality carbon steel and are also combat capable. While the Windlass do have a 95% full tang, they still have a threaded pommel. Also the Albion ones have cord wrapped handles made from stabilized birch whereas the Windlass handles are a METAL TUBE wrapped in cord. NOT what you want on a sword. Anyway, I have the Windlass one and an Albion on order but I definitely wouldn't swing the Windlass one around. Its a wall hanger, plain and simple. Basically you get what you pay for.

    • @edstar83
      @edstar83 Před rokem +1

      @@treadstone1138 Calling them wall hangers is a bit of an exaggeration. They're hand forged carbon steel, full tang. Marketed as functional. And the pommel isn't just going to fly off because it's threaded. If it starts to become loose you just tighten it.
      I have the Windlass Atlantean and Father's sword. I'm happy with them. They feel solid not like cheap Chinese stainless steel wall hanger. unsharpened because I don't like cutting with my swords but it's nice to know that I could if I wanted to. That's the reason why I didn't get the Marto Toledo version, because they're stainless steel.
      Sure the fullers are more accurate on the Albion swords but I kinda like the broad fullers on the Windlass version.
      Anyway enjoy your Albion version. Are you getting the fathers sword too?

    • @treadstone1138
      @treadstone1138 Před rokem +1

      @@edstar83 no, only the destroyer version of the Atlantean. The Father's is nice but out of my budget after purchasing the first one. Lol. But in my opinion the Windlass is just a step up from the wall hanger. The Marto ones are definitely decorative only but I wouldn't trust cutting anything with the Windlass versions. And the fact that they use a metal tube for the handle just really puzzles me because you have a metal tube for handle that is hollow with that Tang which gives it no support whatsoever. I know several people that have disassembled theirs so they can fill the handle up with epoxy and make it solid and more robust but that's not something I feel like I'm really going to want to do. And the Windlass hilts are brass not bronze. I'm sure the weight is negligible between the two but it's still tends to look cheap in my opinion.

      But they do look like a modified/Welded Full Tang Sharpened Sword. Can Ryan's Sword make an Atlantean Sword identical to the Albion?
      And I mean Identical. Like the Water Jetted Blade? And True Version Hand Grip with Real Serpents, And real Deep Atlantean Ruins. On the Blade, Cross guard, and the Hand Grip? @@user-dp8gs5mx7h why doesn't Ryan's Sword make their Conan Swords Exactly Identical to the Actual Movie Swords? If Ryan's Sword ever makes a Fiberglass Version? Which was the nicest version Swords in the Conan the Barbarian Movie as Display Swords. Please let me know. But the Blade has to look Exactly 3 pointed Star shaped, With Everything just like the Scene where Conan was Resurrected from the Dead. And was looking at his Hand before Swinging the Sword behind his back. That movie Prop Sword is the Nicest of all the Atlantean Prop Swords, And is the one that made that Sword Famous. They even use that Fiberglass Sword when Conan and friends Steal the Princess back from Thulsa Doom. When he is wearing War Paint and that Sword also has War Paint.
      A lot of people don't know that there was many prop swords that were used. The closest real Sword to the Actual Movie is the Kult of Athena's version which they say is an Albion Sword AF1 model.
      Not the 20th Anniversary Atlantean Sword like in Eric's video. His sword is what Albion is now Selling. But there are Different Colored Atlantean Swords. That is High Carbon Steal HRC 56 That looks all Silver even the Hilt, Handle, Pommel, Blade, and 3/32 of an inch deep Atlantean Ruins also Silver like the Blade.
      The Sword in this video is like a Blue Steel look. But when Albion shows it in their Crate. It looks totally different in color. Even the Hand Grip Rope looks red colored. I think Kilt of Athena is selling the True Jody Samson Version. And not Jody Samson in name with others on their Certificate. The Deadpool Director has the Athena version, and had Schwarzenegger Autograph it.
      The Conan the Destroyer Movie sucked. And so did the Destroyer Sword. Which Jody Samson admitted that he had Nothing to do with the Destroyer Movie or Swords. Anyone can read that Truth on Albion's website.
