  • Formed in 1954 by shortline railroad icon Samuel Pinsly, the Claremont and Concord Railway was a shortline railroad operating in New Hampshire. The C&C operated portions of the ex-B&M Claremont Branch and also an extensive system of street-running and industrial tracks throughout Claremont. Sold in 1988 and renamed the Claremont-Concord Railroad, in July 1990 the railroad operated its last railfan trip on its remaining city trackage from Claremont Junction to Allen Street in Claremont. Russell F. Munroe, Jr. attended and recorded the events for posterity.

Great fantrip, each run lasted 45 minutes and cost $10.00. Bill Dow (engineer) thought that it was pretty funny that I paid to ride the C&C, after working there so many years.

That a great look back to the past. I’m sure most of the trackage is long gone besides what is at the junction. The hay bales in the gondola is a welcome addition to some of the garbage I’ve ridden on in my railroad career. Lol.

I was on that trip, and had a great time, a short ride, and for a cost of $ 10.00, through the Mass Bay RRE. Pat.

These trips were sponsored by Mass Bay RRE. The trip shown in the video was actually run on June 30, 1990, departing at 11:00 AM. I was on it - I'm in the video - and I went to a Red Sox game the next day. According to the RRE all-time trip listing, there were 40-45 people on the first trip, fewer on later trips at 12:30 and 2:00. Trips were advertised for Sunday as well, but they may not have run - there is no mention of them in the trip listing. The schedule was revised so that all trips covered the former Claremont Electric (trolley) trackage.

From Google Earth all street trackage is gone. Does anybody know when it shut down and why ?
Thanks for that nice ride despite clouds.
