  • Match 25 of series 58, between Ian Lamb (from Worcester, originating from Liverpool) against Sarah Flynn (from Middlesborough).
    This also represents the last appearance of Alison Herd (at least for now) as the lexicographer in Dictionary Corner, who I think it's fair to say filled in very well in the absence of Susie Dent.

    In the twelfth round, there's another eight in EVERTING. I literally got it by mistake: I thought there was a nine with REVERTING, but soon realized there was only one R on the board. Knocking the starting R off the false word made a proper one.
    In the thirteenth round, there's a zoological eight with ARANEIDS. Araneids, named from the taxonomic order Araneae, are the orb-weaver spiders, who weave the kind of circular webs with spokes coming off from the center that most people think of as the "standard" spider web.
    When the target number is low in a one-large game, I try to solve it as a "five-small". Here it was so easy I got three solutions in the 30 seconds even with this handicap:
    7 x 4 = 28
    6 - 1 = 5
    28 x 5 = 140
    6 - 4 = 2
    7 x 2 = 14
    9 + 1 = 10
    14 x 10 = 140
    9 + 6 + 4 + 1 = 20
    20 x 7 = 140

    Another way to do 140 taking all 6 numbers into play:
    50x4=200,
    9x6=54,
    7-1=6,
    54+6=60,
    200-60=140.
