  • Join us as we continue our 630 mile hike of the South West Coast Path National Trail in England. In October 2023 we spent a long sunny weekend in Devon, with the aim of completing further stages of this amazing route. In this vlog, we commence our route at dawn in Lynton, heading for Combe Martin, a route of almost 14 miles. Some of the best views of Devon coastline can be admired on this stretch of the SWCP, taking in the Valley of Rocks, Heddons Mouth and Great Hangman, England’s highest sea cliff. The clock is also running, will we make it to the bus?
    We plan to complete the entire route over coming months between work and everyday life, plus for logistical reasons, we may complete different stages of the route and fill in the gaps as we go along! We’ll share the entire route, interesting points of interest, plus if we feel it appropriate, we’ll also point out recommended accommodations and places to eat!

    Brings back memories of happier times, the times I’ve walked to the Valley of the Rocks, Lee Abbey down to the Rising Sun, couple of pints, food and walk back up to Lynton, safe bathing in Woody Bay

    A beautiful walk indeed... Goats, sheep, hills, streams and beauty all the way.. 14 miles in 7 hours... Better than I can do... I can 2 miles an hour on the flats but not on the hills...

    You found another stunning area, music fits masterfully and 14 miles doesn't seem like much for such a panoramic view. It seems to me that I could walk 30 miles and admire this nature. Bravo guys 👏👏

    I enjoyed every step there Simon. You two do some great hikes and this was a fruity one (ref to bun). I see you had your Badlands National Park T on. Well, from what I could tell parts of this trail were pretty impressive - looked like mountains in areas. Castle rock was far out. Well, a good job Ellaine never had to walk back - she'd have a blister on the other foot otherwise. Good going both - show us the ice cream! Mark

    cool early morning hike, there was no one around other than you guys and the goats on the trail , always good to have "tape" on the trail you never know when one might need it (I carry moleskin) and who doesn't enjoy an ice cream at the end of the hike, loved seeing the little village and beach, sorry about no bus and that taxi ride, wow!!

    Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Such a awesome coastline. A tip to prevent blisters, I was a foot slogging Infantry Soldier for 18 years and tabbed all around the world in the worse of weather ,terrains..;
    Everyday before setting off put vaseline on our feet. As the saying goes: "prevention is better than a cure". After a day's walk, wash and dry feet off using talcum powder,then keep feet in open air if poss overnite. Then repeat the process in the morning. The results, we hardly ever had blisters. IM 60 now , but really considering doing this SWCP..🤔..

    A wonderful video from an amazing part of north Devon, the walk down from little hangman and the views of the sea and into the valley of Combe Martin are so amazing, ps you are so much fitter than most couples as I know those up hill sections of the coast path can be so hard on the body and mind ps what is the gadget your wife was showing at the end of the video checking distance and the like enjoy your next adventure I'm looking forward to watching it

    Absolutely beautiful video guys, thank you for sharing! Great job with the time too. I'm planning this walk for next weekend I think, just trying to work out timings or if I'll need to split it! Last section I think you guys did to Lynmouth in 6 hours 45, including your rest/food breaks, whereas it took me 7 hours 25 to Lynton including rest/food breaks, so pretty similar. But this section is so long, and including Great Hangman! So I'm not sure I would be able to do it as fast as you. And I'll be a slave to the winter light too. I also found the exposed path round Foreland Point really daunting last week, and alot of the path on this section looks really exposed, but even narrower and higher!

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting, you're right about this being a long stretch, Heddons Mouth in the middle adds an hour, which is quite challenging! However you go for it, we hope you have a great time, kind regards, Simon and Elaine

    What an absolute bummer about the bus. We've taken to using Uber on the odd occasion. In Portugal they were cheaper than cabs. I don't know about the UK ones. Whenever I've tried in the UK there haven't been any available.

    You mentioned a SWCP app in connection with the bus timetable 'fail'. Which app is this? Thanks

    • @unowhotravelchannel
      @unowhotravelchannel  Před 5 měsíci +2

      The app is called Traveline SW, it wasn’t so much a fail, we have been pleased with it previously during the spring and summer months. However, on the actual day it was saying the Coaster bus was running with the stated times and stops, when in reality the bus service had stopped the previous month for the winter.

    Don't you just love "country" signage. I am sure they do it on purpose. A well earned ice cream at the end of it though.

    • @unowhotravelchannel
      @unowhotravelchannel  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yes, ice cream and hot tea don't normally mix...but after 14 miles hiking, anything goes!
