It probably won't happen to the Cruze family, but it might be helpful for others to see what Rachel would cut if they had to reduce their weekly spend by half. Then you really start to understand how to prioritize "wants". This has been so helpful to me in BS4/5/6 especially when saving for a large future expense, in my case moving overseas in 2023.

Be proud of the $800/month cleaning expense.
executive assistant here. For the companies I work for, it’s worth it for them to pay someone like me between $80-100k/year in order to maximize and leverage the time and productivity of the executives I support.
For a 2 income family where one or both partners are in high level roles (which Rachel is) - using her time to clean the house is the definition of insanity and waste. It takes a crew of 2 people approx 3.5 hours to clean a moderately sized home.
That’s 7 hours, or almost 1 full workday of Rachel’s time. At that level-she should be over-indexing for the things ONLY she can do-like her job at Ramsey and being a mom to her kids and a wife to her husband.
Unless they love cooking-maybe they could even bring in a private chef once a week to make a week batch of freezer meals and 1-pot meal prep

Awesome job! Thank you for being brave and putting it out there! Don't feel bad for having a cleaning service you are freeing yourself to focus on your family and work. Also don't forget you are providing income for someone else (ask me how I know!) . Also you are in the part of the baby steps where you can budget for this . I always fall of the bandwagon with tracking out expenses halfway through the month. I just downloaded the Every Dollar app hoping this will keep me on track. Ugh lol I just need to get this as part of my daily routine! Thank you for inspiration and the vulnerability of putting yourself out there!

I have one kiddo but I began gradually working part time then full and my house was getting so out of control. I was spending all of my weekends cleaning instead of spending time with my family. We have a strict budget and pretty much stick to that - going on 27 years now. If we do have an expense that we were not able to (or did not know) to budget for, we take from another category of savings. We never spend what we have not already saved. This month we bought a ceiling exhaust fan for our bathroom ($300.00) and will also have to pay an electrician later on this week to replace that bathroom ceiling fan, AND another technician to re-caulk both of our shower stalls $250.00. I will also have to have the garage door services......never ending maintenance "Household and Maintenance" category! But on the positive side we never eat out, don't use an expensive Smart Phone, don't pay for TV, don't take vacations/trips or drive a new vehicle. Our biggest expenses are buying organic food for the two of us, homecooked foods for our dog and maintenance and wellness items. We are age 72 and 77, so we have more aging and wellness needs. I also bought filters for our three air purifiers this month and those were expensive, but these are important to our health and wellness. The way I look at it is that we pay now for our health, or we pay later in sick days, loss of income and surgery and other treatments.

Everyone should have a no judgment line in their budget. Mine is eating out. Not fast food but a good sit-down restaurant where I can take half my food back home with me. So my grocery budget and entertainment budget are smaller and I have a budget line for eating out. If you use their app or go to their website or go at different times in different days of the week there are plenty of cost saving options to use.

We catch and freeze salmon and he hunts elk and deer and eat it throughout the year. We are in WA state. I can’t imagine. And I shop cheap. I splurge on my coffee but I still get that at Costco with soda water and the paper products. We don’t drink alcohol either. (Had waaaay to much in my 20s and 30s😅😂)

I absolutely love Rachel Cruze. I enjoy her videos, podcast and when she’s on with her dad and the other Ramsey celebrities. I’ve learned so much from the Ramsey philosophy/teaching. I’m sincerely fans and hope they continue teaching forever…. But with that said, I wish they would rethink sending everyone to Amazon. The Ramsey’s were/are entrepreneurs and grew their business from scratch. They’ve done great but what would their company look like if they had to compete with Amazon? Please Ramsey’s- promote small business. If not in a few years there will be no small business! But as I said- I think the Ramsey’s (including Rachel) are 10/10 and I’ll never stop listening, watching and reading their teaching. PS- this post was NOT intended as negativity…

People buy fast food for their family weekly. That’s like having a cooking service 💰I chose to cook at home and spend that money on a housekeeper. 20 years ago, I paid my sister to clean my bedroom while I worked two jobs and went to college full time. Then I married and worked as a teacher. Am a stay at home mom/wife and still have a housekeeper. Don’t need to be rich to have a cleaning service. We followed a budget, learned to be content, and made God our number one purpose in our daily life. Richness is in the soul.
