Japanese Woodworking - Woodshed: How to Build it

  • This time I made a woodshed, but it took a whole four days.It rained and there were some troubles, so I swamped a little, but I managed to finish it! Since it is a conventional construction method that does not use any metal parts, I think it is resistant to rust. I hope it can stock one winter's worth of firewood!

I hope I don't come off rude when saying that this is probably the most overengineered wood shed I've ever seen, and I love it. The craftmanship is just phenomenal and is probably sturdier than the building behind it.

Where I live we get Cat 1 and low Cat 2 hurricanes. The tail-end of those from the gulf of Mexico even-though we are 1200 miles north from there. Every year we get 190+km wind and almost monthly we get 100 to 120km winds. Always windy here and a calm day or even a few hours of calm becomes the talk of everyone. As we say here,,, you could tie a ship off of that woodshed!!

The layout skill involved is pure art as is the craftmanship and command of your tools. The excessive use of caulk on the small roof may help hold moisture from drying out after a soaking rain and therefore causing root. Rain never only falls straight down. Therefore, the roof is more decorative than practical. Overall, it is beautiful project.

Yep, the biggest differences if noticed from watching thease videos is you can't rush it. Instead of screwing flimsy processed wood, sheet metal or plastic together. Everything is made perfectly to fit together like a peice of art. Only then do you used screws or nails to reinforce, or Fasten down what needs it. The end result is a beautiful peice that will last for yrs.

A friend recommended this channel to me. The content is right up my alley, meaning, it matches my interests perfectly. Looking forward to watch all of your videos.
One small thing that I think could be improved is to link to the original Japanese video in the description, not just the general Japanese channel. Reason I say this is, I live in Japan and I do speak and understand some Japanese, but I'd like to improve my language skills by listening to the original audio, and simply turn on subtitles for helping me understand what is being said, in cases where I don't know the vocabulary used for example.
Otherwise: great content. I enjoy watching your channel. Thank you!
