- This time I will make a wood deck! We will make all the parts from hinoki cypress. The shape is simple and the easiest to use. I used nails to stop the deck material. The number of occasions when I use nails is decreasing, but I still use the round-headed nails I show!

Shoyan is down on his knees cleaning the chalk line. He is the master.
I miss wood working so much. Unfortunately I had to quit due to having cancer. I hope I can go back one day.
This deserves far more views, the craftmanship is incredible
7:13 that is the definition of a clean and ordered job site. I feel a great spiritual connection to this man
This is furniture quality carpentry
You make it look so easy ....that only comes through many years of building and perfecting your projects. You are certainly a master at your skills!
I get so much joy watching you work. Hard to put into words exactly, but I think it is the perceived patience that I am admiring.
16:01 years ago I worked summers as a carpenter, building expensive custom homes. I never worked with a carpenter who displayed as much care, mastery, or pride in his work as Shoyan. It is a real joy to watch these videos, and I think they speak beautifully to the true contribution mastery of craft makes to the world. Please keep making these videos!
Sho-yan , you have my respects for you and your craftmanship
I love watching you work. You do amazing work. Best work on youtube
Discovered your awesome channel today. Excellent videos, and amazing dedication of skill and craftsmanship.
So much nicer finish with the stainless steel nail heads than deck screws. Again - impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail....
Wow! He is AMAZING! What skills!
This man ms work is perfect!
Just amazing. Those nails look beautiful.
Excellent use of materials and very nice installation. Well done!
I feel, the Japanese are the OG in wooden decks fr
i love it ! As a german carpenter i can say good quality work ! i would love to work in japan
Beautifully done, thanks for showing us.
Ive been looking this for SO LONGGG, THANK YOUUUU😭😭😭
Very beautiful project, Thank You for showing us your work. I always enjoy the process. 🙏
Wonderful design and craftsmanship. I like the plastic feet on the posts. I need to see if they are available here in the USA. The round headed nails give a nice smooth finish. I have found that the screws commonly used can be rough. We use a ice and water shield type membrane on top of the structural members these days to prevent water intrusion at the fastener between deck boards and structure. I enjoy watching your mixed use of hand and power tools. 👍
Beautiful!!!!!!!
Another Master Class.
Simply Gorgeous work! Thank you!
Beautiful and perfect !
very nice as always, true craftsmanship!
Toujours aussi bien. Merci.

👌
Anyone know where to get some of those dome head nails in the US?
What did he mean by interval while doing the nails? trying to learn more about carpentry
How cool would it be to be given menkyo in joinery under him
Surprised he did not use any joinery for build that base. Just screwed it together.
@@ShawnWitty No Idea what to use. I am just so used to see him and other Japanese carpenters always using some kind of joinery rather then just screwing or nailing it together.
I despise nails but this video makes me want to use nails again
What do you use to waterproof the wood?
The water respects the craftsmanship so much it's scared to come near it
Hello. I am wondering if this kind of deck is usually left bare in Japan? Or does it usually get sealed or stained? Thank you.
When I lived in Japan, we treated ours once a year with tung oil. That deck was ~12 years old when we left (there 4 years) and looks as nice as the year we arrived.
Please wear a hepa mask to protect your lungs🙏 also best to have a hepa fan running as well
Surprised he did not use any joinery for build that base. Just screwed it together.
