  • During the high holy day of Yom Kippur, the rabbi was wearing a gorgeous, colorful tallit. I kept looking at it thinking, “I can paint that.” So the next day, I did.
    Here is how I painted a silk scarf with alcohol ink using what I call the Rainbow Technique #2. In this tutorial, I used a 100% silk scarf that's 8" x 54" and alcohol inks from Let's Resin (I am not an affiliate).As you'll see in this video, painting silk scarves with alcohol inks is a simple process. Give it a try.

    Very pretty! 🤩 In the past, I painted silk too. I like to lay it on paper towels and use these towels for journal covers. 🤩

      I have used paper towels under my silk as well and have saved them cause they looks so lovely. I have yet to use them for anything though. Thanks Denise.

      Once all the ink is dry on your scarf (it can take 20-30 minutes approximately) you can put it in the cold water/vinegar/salt solution. Soak it for 15-20 minutes. Then let it dray (another 20-30 minutes) before you iron it.

      What is the ratio of the water, vinegar, and salt? Thank you!

    Thank you for posting this! Can you do this on chiffon? I would love to do a beach cover up. Thank you

      Tammy, I haven't tried this on chiffon so I can't answer you on how it would work. You could do it on silk as a sarong (I am actually creating a sarong for a client in Hawaii). If you try it on chiffon, let me know how it goes.

    I’m a new subscriber. This silk scarf technique is wonderful! Do you have a video that describes the vinegar soak? I’m wondering what the proportions of water to alcohol are and how long you let it soak.

      Funny you should mention that Barb as I've been thinking I should create a video about the vinegar soak, but I have yet to do so. I do it intuitively meaning I fill my bathroom sink with cold water and pour in some white distilled vinegar (approx. 1/2 to 1 cup) and I add iodized salt (approx. 1-2 tablespoons) - rarely do I measure it. I do one scarf at a time (unless I'm using same colors on multiple scarves). After the scarf dries, I iron it with a steam iron and then repeat the process one more time. Hope this helps.

    Is this a shear silk ?

    • @DebraAJason
      @DebraAJason  Před 11 měsíci

      It's thin Karen, but not totally sheer. Check it out here: amzn.to/3SlhyGF
