[20] Painting Silk Scarves w/Alcohol Inks: Brush Technique

- I don't usually use a brush when painting silk scarves with alcohol inks. However, in this video I used a round brush to outline some circles with the alcohol ink. Then, I added isopropyl alcohol (99%) to start spreading the inks and filling in the circles..
When I'm done painting, I let the silk dry. Then, to help set the color, I soak it in vinegar and iodized salt and when that's dry, I iron it with a steam iron. Often, I will repeat this step a 2nd time.

The scarf is 100% silk (seda).
How much vinegar and salt do you use ? The ratio to water. Do you wash the duck yo get rid of the alcohol/ vinegar smell? Thanks so much
Rhonda, I don’t really measure everything out. Probably about half a cup of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of salt in my bathroom sink with cold water. There’s no alcohol/vinegar smell.

@@user-de9vo4qx6o are you referring to silk that you painted with alcohol inks? If so, after you paint it and it dries, it needs to be soaked in cold water, vinegar & salt. See this video:

After that, if you wear the scarf and later want to wash it, only gentle hand washing in cold water with little (if any) mild soap is recommended.
