    I'm in recovery from Ehrlichiosis. Symptoms began within about 5 days of the tick bite.. I had most of them: bad fatigue, body ache, severe headaches, nausea, mild fever, loss of appetite, pain in joints that had sustained a past injury.. Went to a local clinic and after blood tests, they confirmed ehrlichiosis and prescribed 2 weeks of doxycycline.. In the meanwhile, I lost 22 pounds in 14 days. I would sleep around the clock.. Favorite foods were nauseating. Now, I have treated my gardening clothes with permethrin.. I'm taking tick bites as seriously as the plague..

    California Dept. of Public Health (CDPH) says Ehrlichiosis doesn't occur here, but I'm convinced it does. Unfortunately, it's hard enough to get a Lyme test, let alone testing for any other of the tick borne diseases unless one can pay out of pocket for testing. So, few physicians will even test for it since "it isn't here", therefore cases are rarely , if ever, reported as they are supposed to be. If anyone recalls, they also said that Lyme borreliosis "didn't exist here" not too long ago, but we have a lot of it, along with several others.
    Human tick disease testing labs show a definite and pervasive pattern of positive human Ehrlichia tests in California, and the West Coast in general. It is present also in the canine and equine population here. What can be done to get the CDPH to research Tick-borne diseases better?

      @SurviveOutdoors  Před rokem +2

      So all public health departments rely on what's reported. Some states do NOT have mandatory reporting on this. Ehrlichia is transmitted by the black legged tick which is in California ( some areas) and the lone star ( not in California) It is rare in California with my research but NOT unheard of. When it comes to our health what does an extra lab test matter. I always advise tx the patient. If you have the symptoms and lyme is negative get the test.

    Hello, may I ask if Ehrlichiosis has a chronic phase? Many internet articles suggest that it is self-limiting and not long-term. I have "weak" IgG antibodies for Ehrlichia. Doctors have informed me that it's a past infection and already resolved. However, we don't have many doctors in my country, and their expertise may be limited. I am in need of a professional opinion regarding this matter. Thank you!

      There so many questions I would need to ask which would be too complex for You Tube discussion. If you still have possible symptoms and never treated I personally would go with a 14 day course. Your doc could do blood smears. IgG can be pos a few months after to years. Here is the best study I ran across. Hope this helps.

      Addendum : Try to always look at benefit vs risk. minimal if any risk 14 day treatment of antibiotics vs lingering symptoms not treated.

      Thanks . Unfortunately blood smear is not legal approach for testing tick bacterias in my country for some unknown reason. I found the IgG antibiotics in another country by luck. I have all symptoms of Neuro Lyme. But I have negative tests every time. I'll finish my current treatment now with some antibiotics for the mysterious Ehrlicia and I will do another Lyme test abroad. I hear some people get positive tests after a course of antibiotics

    Thank you so much for this video, I was just diagnosed Igg positive for ehrlicia chafeensis two days ago. I remember the day I discovered the tick on me(summer of 2019), I live in the northeast around a lot of deer so I guess it was a deer tick? I removed it and immediately went to urgent care where I was given doxy for one dose and the tick was sent out to be tested for Lyme. The Lyme came back negative, what a relief right? Fast forward to 2021 I went in for a checkup with my primary care physician and luckily I have a doctor who is very thorough much like yourself and she informed me that I have this tick born illness. I have felt general fatigue and loss of appetite for the last 2 years of my life, sometimes severe sometimes mild. Could this be due to the bacteria that is in my blood? Im unable to get into an appointment with a doctor for infectious diseases until October. Im on doxy again for the next ten days, it’s a powerful antibiotic for sure bc im getting all the negative side effects. Is it bad that I have left this untreated for this long? I have so many questions but it doesn’t seem like anyone wants to help. Thank you again for this informational video I wish you were my doctor

      I would ask your provider to check kidney function and liver enzymes. They probably already have done that. Long term ehrlichia can mess with the kidneys. Good luck. Ty for watching.

    I watch a lot of videos from Australia (Bondi Vet) and there is a tick there that causes paralysis. I have seen several videos from there that involved children and pets - all becoming paralyzed. Do these ticks occur in the US?

    • @SurviveOutdoors
      @SurviveOutdoors  Před 3 lety

      Yes. Only in the Pacific northwest and in the Rockies. The wood tick or dog tick is the culprit. Not that common but very dramatic. See our video ticks in the U.S. ty for the question.

    I wasn't feeling well and of course at the time it was 1 of 2 things - my MS or "the virus". I had been working outside at our new home in the Village and it was extremely warm out. I developed a bright red rash on both my legs about mid thigh to ankle which was only slightly raised behind my left knee area otherwise it looked like a combination of severe diaper rash, lupus flush and the itch (which is a rash many get in my area swimming from the lake weeds). Because we were in quarantine waiting for results there was no way for me actually see anyone so every tried and true home remedy the possibility of a sweat rash, allergic reaction to anything unusual plant wise I may have come in contact with and my usual protocol when there is concern of a MS relapse possibility. That regime FOR ME includes high doses of Vit C, lean proteins, electrolytes and water push. The rash went away but my muscles ached in a way that was not a previous MS experience. While waiting for an actual appointment our Lab Willow was acting completely out of character-walking sideways, into doorways (which I was also but is not necessarily unusual for me), she lacked energy,
    would sneeze blood droplets,, was drooling a lot and was dripping urine in tiny droplets because she had no control. It was then I found a tick sack on the floor. She developed a temperature well beyond what is tolerable for a dog to survive without organs shutting down. I layed on the hardwood floor with her and it was a constant ice bag and pack rotation until the Vet was back from an Emergency Farm call. My husband took Willow in and I scrubbed floors because we do have another dog and we didn't know exactly what was going on. Willow tested positive for both Ehlirica and Anaplasma. She is still with us although she was not expected to make it. As we worked on getting medicine and feeding her chicken and rice to replace the large amount of weight she lost our other dog became extremely fatigued, his behavior was not like his usual self. Jax was taken to the Vet and tested positive for Lyme. To this point we have found 1 tick but from what the Vet told us no tick carries all 3 of these tickbourne illnesses so 3 different ticks had infected both of our dogs. I am one of those doting dog owners that has "puppy spa" day frequently for them and brushes and vacuums at least once a day so I am not way behind on my off days. I still had to be excessively persistent with 2 dogs testing positive for tick illnesses and then I remembered that I took photos of my legs and sent them to friends asking if they had any clue what it was. I tested positive for Lyme as well.
    Things I have learned with this experience are 1. tick hatches have ticks that can be as small as a speck of pepper (perhaps that wasn't all dirt on my legs) 2. You do not have to find a tick to have been biten 3.Not all people will develop any kind of rashes or redness 4.If you notice anything unusual with either yourself, a family member or a pet - document it because that is how Willow was saved. Without that the Vet wouldn't have had enough information to quickly run tests and get her on medication. And pet documentation and my photos are what was finally the tipping point for my treatment. 5. If you know how you are feeling is out of the normal scope for a pre-existing condition or the behaviors of others aren't normal for them - keep persisting or find another Doctor 6. You definitely don't have to be in the woods somewhere because all in this household were inside a well maintained and manicured yard in the Village 7. Do your homework and this CZcams Channel is an absolutely amazing source of information. The more you know the better you can protect yourself.

    I finally got a diagnosis for Ehrlichiosis after 2 years of severe symptoms including severe memory loss, numbness, paralysis, head and spine infection, blood clots, etc. I am taking doxycycline for a month but I'm concerned the damage is already done due to my doctor's negligence. Is there any hope it still helps me or is there another avenue of treatment? I've been using bear root which helps with the symptoms but would like to have my life back if possible.

      Long road of rehab... Yes you could get some of your paralysis and numbness back. I am unaware of an avenue of treatment after 2 years. My wife got Ehrlichiosis. So glad no major long term. So sorry. That is why I advocate to all my colleagues draw a Babesiosis and Ehrlichiosis with Lyme titer. Good luck. Ty for sharing.

    I was very sick with fever, chill, extreme headache, nausea ... Urgent doc told me to go to ER after he found out low platelet from my blood work. Next morning, I went to ER and stayed in the hospital for 2 days with lots of test without knowing the cause of fever, liver problem... I had cellulitis from poison ivy and took Bactrim, I though I had side effect from that. Doc thought it is possible but they also gave me doxycycline after I told them I got tick bite. Several days later the test show that positive for Ehrlichia chaffeensis . I think my dog was sick too. I am going to take him to the vet to test his blood. He looks fine now. I did some research about the long term affect from the disease, i have some peace of mind learning that it does not have long term affect. Well ... I am still recovering from the sickness.

      I had a similar experience. I suddenly came down with a mysterious illness and I am a very healthy person. Doctors were baffled by my lab and scan results. I live in southeastern us and ticks are bad here. I get them on me regularly in warmer months. There is no avoiding it like they say. It took months to get proper treatment, but I live where all we have is a one star hospital let’s just say. I was throwing up so severely and got extremely weak. Couldn’t even hold liquid down. Had an extreme headache. Chills though I never ran a fever, in fact my temp ran low. My blood results came back normal, but my liver enzymes were elevated, and my large intestines, liver, gall, and kidneys were all inflamed. I was tested for Lyme and came back negative as well as a panel of things all negative. The specialist told me he had never seen anything like it, but believed it to be bacterial of some sort. They never thought to test me for any other tick borne disease. After recovering, my dog tested positive for the ehrlichiosis bacteria. He never showed signs of illness minus the initial tick bite, went on antibiotics, and was fine. I knew then what made me so sick. I was fortunate my mother was a nurse and I was given multiple medications upon leaving er and seeing specialist. I recovered fully with it only causing negative results to my intestine. Still hoping one day that’ll heal.

    Last fall I got bitten by a tick on my chest (I'm a 70-yr-old woman.) Actually, it had just started its burrowing and hadn't yet settled in or started to suck any blood. We successfully removed the tick with a Tick Twister, which we always use and it does a good job of getting the whole thing. but what happened next was I started getting sick, extremely sick. I was sick for three weeks, then it got better. We live in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California. We had gotten tick bites before, but this had never happened before. Shortly after we removed it there was around a six-inch red raised circle around where the tick was, and that lasted for a couple of weeks. After doing some research on Lyme Disease the symptoms didn't seem to apply. What happened? (There was no paralysis, it just felt like a really bad flu). It's weird because we only started having problems with ticks over the past three or four years, and the problems seem to occur mostly around wintertime. Before that, we had never had any problems with ticks and we have lived in this area for 30 years. Thank you so much for your informational videos. 😀
