    I start to get the idea from life experience that some people thrive on drama and they intentionally create it and persist in it even when they know it is dangerous possibly fatal. People also don't like solutions because they enjoy the 'problem', it becomes their identity. If you tell them how to fix it they don't want to hear about it.

    Your videos have made it clear to me how some people are just more vulnerable and that attracts abusers. Life lessons teaching us to tolerate and even expect it, accepting responsibility for it, even. Quiet, introverted, sensitive children are targets and once abused believe they only deserve that type of treatment. I was so scared as an 18yo that I would lose everything I had if I reported my abuser to the police. The justice system was just going to fail and possibly shame me further. But, even so, I should have done it. I might have learned that I deserved better and that I could defend myself. Lesson: if your mother and teachers won't respond when you tell them, keep trying. You may never get the chance again and it will affect your whole life.

    This case is a reminder that childhood trauma ,( Stephans abuse by his father) need to be addressed. It does not resolve without shining light on it. Therapy with a licensed mental health professional is one chance for addressing and resolving it. Poor Stephan did not realize that. Intelligent people do stupid things.
    I was wondering what went in to Anna. She let her children go to someone else? That is not really understandable to me. She had an income and was able to support herself and them. How is drinking and meaningless engagement with men a better choice?

    Thanks again for your witty analysis of the Ana Trujillo case, Dr. Grande, and the sly shoe-type references you made. Just like Bette Midler once said, "Give a girl the proper footwear and she can conquer the world!" In this case, it allowed a drunken, violence prone woman to kill a drunken wuss of a man. Given her previous tendency towards violence, I would have to disagree with your suggestion that she should have used a crime of passion defense to get a shorter sentence. She had a history of escalating violent behavior, and while her murder of Stefan might not have been premeditated or coldly calculated, it could be suggested that it would have been inevitable, given their personalities.

    This case shows that alcoholism can put people, such as the professor, in dangerous situations. His judgement was certainly affected. The alcohol was a way of avoiding the potentially painful, but more effective, ways of ending his troubles at work and in relationships (including ending the relationship with Anna). At first, the alcohol, attention, and sex made him tolerate her issues. I also think the professor's empathy, mixed with liquor, kept her in his life too long. He went beyond what a sober, more reasonable person would have done. I think the aging Anna kept having to prove to herself that she was still very attractive to men. In addition, she was not capable of monogamy. There is certainly a narcissistic streak in her, magnified by alcohol.

    I used to be married to an unusually gentle Swede--just gentle by innate temperament, I think. Trauma or no trauma in the background, I think that just being Swedish is a big marker of vulnerability. I am only half-joking about that, being a chill Nordic, myself.
    But, poor Alf! What a sad case!
    And I would cut Trujillo no slack for `sudden passion. If she could open his braincase with a shoe for any reason, she's one of society's wild animals and should be treated as such. There is suddenly way too much of this `sudden passion' garbage going inadequately punished, right now.

    I don't see how a person could be convicted of first degree murder with a high heel as the murder weapon. It just doesn't seem like one would premeditate killing someone with a shoe.

    • @joeking433
      @joeking433 Před rokem

      @@HighNoone You don't understand the difference between first degree and second degree murder .Using a shoe as a weapon would indicate that it was done in the heat of the moment, which would be indicative of second degree murder. Now, if she planned it out to bring a shoe with her to use as a weapon to kill him that would be first degree murder, but I truly doubt that was the case. Being a drinker with regular fights the jury will see that it was a case of her killing him in the passion of the moment and she'll be convicted of second degree murder.

    You know, I didn't want to go there with the 'Alf' thing. I told myself, "You're an adult. You can control your thoughts." But no - and with a picture, even. One of us should be embarrassed. You guess which one. 😄 On a serious note - one of my mother 's college roommate lived in our same town and would visit often. At the time she was deep in her alcoholism (she eventually got sober). It was terrible to see a woman, a mother, act like that, sometimes having to be physically controlled. I had a few drinks in college, but once I became a mom, that was it, and that was decades ago. Was I traumatized? Maybe. I can admit that. I'm not against other people drinking responsibly; I'd just rather not deal with it.

    It's possible, perhaps, that the Doc is tired, or has a cold. Usually you can see him in the comments, acknowledging various comments that he likes, etc. In fact, this is one of the things I've always liked about the guy: he actually reads the comments! He's soft-spoken, appears to have no ego, has a subtle but sometimes brilliant sense of humor, and he always seems to know what he's talking about. He knows a lot about handguns, for example. When I was a musician, I found out that my recording engineer had a Beretta 92, probably chambered in 9 millimeter, and it was, basically, a hobby for this guy. He'd go to the local firing range once in a while, and do his thing. It would be almost a decade later when I found out for myself that, as a hobby, it can be pretty damn fun. I went with Beretta too, and all I can say is this: those wacky Italians make one hell of a pistol. I put 700 rounds through it, and it only jammed once.
    I've totally forgotten what I was originally going to say. Oh well, there's always tomorrow (if my liver doesn't give out). Bye for now.

    The last bit of analysis contradicts the assertion that the murderer deserved 22 years (crime of passion). The perp appears to be ruthless, and deliberately attacked and killed a victim who did not fight back. A male murderer, with a similar aggressive history, who killed his female partner with his fists and anything to hand would deserve an equally long sentence.
