I love love LOVE how he takes his time with this piece!! Too many people rush through it and i personally feel like its constantly played in a rush manner so hearing this is truly music to my ears.
I just keep coming back to this recording...Do you happen to know if he recorded Ballade 2 ? The one on YT doesn't have very good sound quality. I'm curious to hear his take on the piece since I'm playing it.
Hey sorry for the late reply. I don't think I have Dang's version, although I do have another recording played by a Swedish pianist I think... it's actually not that bad too. I will see if I can upload it.
@@magiksticYou're right. And I think that even the individual's preferences are constantly changing. At first I had liked Rubinstein's interpretation very much, and then Lang Lang, and these days Dang Thai Son... Maybe someday I will like Yundi's playing. Idk haha

This man won the 1980 Chopin competition because he was better than Ivo Pogorelich. Let that sink in. His playing is sublime but he also beat a legend on his way to victory!

A great interpretation but I personally prefer Zimmerman's interpretation. His interpretations of each of the ballades are just heart-wrenching. I just find it impossible to not think of Zimmerman's interpretations when mentioning any of the ballades. And also, I don't mean to hate on anyone's opinion I just wanted to share my own.

That is, for every type of fortissimo you must have a specific forte, piano, pianissimo. The problem with todays pianists is that they either play extremely loud or soft, thereby restricting themselves into a dull and bifid type of playing and confusing this with what Horowitz did. He reportedly had numerous levels of dynamics between his piano and pianissimo.

All qualified pianists are unique and no one plays like another so it's pointless to compare who is better. The choice of your favorite pianists also depends on how you feel the music, and I wouldn't say that you or me or someone who has a good taste of music by pointing out which pianist is better, because who cares? Why don't you just enjoy the music instead of being so annoying? I really get sick every time I see a comment like your!

Argerich did not quit because Dang Thai Son won the competition. She quit just because of Pogorelich.
As much as people love Dang Thai Son, they sure love comparing him to the great Pogorelich

I agreed with you, Zimmerman’s Ballades are my go to version. This is wonderful too. A different sensibility, a different meditation.

wow, that's a very light version- very beautifully played but no nearly so dramatic as most other performances.
It is as light as Chopin, and not so dramatic as Beethoven
