How floors where done in Scotland before the advent of chipboard sheeting. Once had a plaster lathe ceiling fall on my back while replacing some rotted boards.
Love the color choice, and it does look good. That said, paint really doesn't hold up very well to foot traffic. You may find you regret that decision. But definitely did a good job with it.
