Hi, Dr Bertrand, I've just watched your video for the first time and was very impressed, I remember when you made your attempt back in 1999 when it was in the news, I was also aware that your father Jacques Piccard made an amazing dive to the bottom of the North Pacific Ocean On 23 January 1960, but I was only recently made aware of your grandfather's amazing balloon flight to the upper Stratos-plane. The history of your grandfather's amazing flight was never taught in the school that I attended and I find it very sad that the history of his flight is not more well known about. I feel may be that your grandfather witnessed something so spectacular and may be something that the powers that be did not want other people to know about and tend to ridicule you if you mention it and label you as crazy. I do hope that you are a believer in what your grandfather witnessed on the day of his flight and hold it true in your heart. I would like to think that may be your grandfather along with God was a guiding hand in your spectacular achievement. Anyway thank you for the video and much love and peace to you and yours
It isn't taught because he wasn't trying to break any records or was he trying to seek fame. He was studying Earth's upper atmoSPHERE and cosmic rays, NONE of the Piccards ever believed in a flat earth. Bertrands grandfather said "the earth 'SEEMED' flat with upturned edges" but never EVER said that it IS flat. Also, look at the tiny windows that Auguste was looking out of. They were tiny and offered a very small field of view. It would be amazing if we could get a full detailed nonfiction documentation like this as to how we supposedly go to space. Different camera angels, un edited footage to make it more cinematic just cuts and raw footage.

Why do the team in Geneva not take into account the spin of the globe? All they are concerned about is jet streams to get the balloon around the globe.
Courageous and amazingly successful undertaking, and I enjoyed this free documentary (thank you!), but the lack of concern for the environment, even if deserted, below the balloon when discarding tanks is troubling.

This would be completely impossible on a curved earth. water always finds a way to level out so you are taught at a very young age to ignore your senses when it comes to globe earth. many cultures knew the earth was motionless for thousands of years and you are taught in school ancient people are uneducated. that there were cavemen and stupid. this cannot be true. look at the pyramids and all the ancient structures that we cannot build to this day. Alot of experts believe there was a great catcolismic event that happened to the earth that wiped a lot of those cultures off the earth and technology and knowledge has been lost. Why not just hover in the same spot above the earth and let it rotate, then just come down again when the world beneath them is the exact same place (I.e. If you would float a balloon in a hangar (with no wind/airflow) do you think it will move across the hangar on it's own in a couple of hours because of the rotation of the earth? Because that is basically what you are saying should happen, only on a way larger scale. Maybe we can visualize it like this: Take a glass or bowl fill it with water then try to rotate the glass around the water without moving the water. Do you think you can do it? I'll tell you right now, you can't, since the glass has friction with the water. And the same goes for air, you might not see it but it can create friction (why do you think you can run faster on a treadmill than you can with normal running?) As a result of friction the air moves as the earth does and if there was no such thing as wind you would basically stay in the same spot. So finally we can say, you need time, some form of control and the right winds to float across the world, you can't just go up and wait, also what would be the challenge in that, if that were the case the french (montgolfier) would've probably done it somewhere after 1783 with their first balloons. I don't think it would've taken them over 200 years to achieve.

I have read some of these comments... What I don't understand here is what school these people here have gone to. Where have they taught that air is connected to the ground? Are you serious? How blind can a person be? The air is completely separate. End of story... If a balloon ( or any object) goes into the air, it is completely at the mercy of wind. The air will move anything it touches. A piece of paper can blow down the street on a windy day. So someone please tell me how the paper is connected to the movement of the ground. Any sober person knows it is the wind (or movement of the air, not ground). So clearly a balloon is traveling with the winds and currents. Science is about observation, not biased conclusions to support agendas.
There was one rather large error, you said at the end that they stayed aloft longer than any other air craft which isn't even remotely close. Bob Timm had flew a plane for just shy of 65 days in 1959
I suppose that's true though they are different kinds of records. Bob Timm's Cessna wouldn't have lasted very long without refuelling. His was the refueled, manned flight endurance record and apart from solar energy (which I think does count as refuelling of a sort) this record was unrefueled.

At 16:05, why is there no curvature? Based on the mathematical formula for measuring the curvature of a ball, given the high altitude, there should be at least a slight curvature, if the earth is a globe. I paused the video and held up a straight edge to the horizon, and it is PERFECTLY FLAT!! Something's not right. Either the curvature formula is wrong or the view is through lens that have the opposite effect of a fish eye lens, or the flat earthers are actually right! This requires more unbiased investigation! Or, this is a fake video!
@@libertypastor1307 it is really not enough to calculate the curvature of the earth. The footage you referred to is not what naked eye would see because cameras have zoom, and you can zoom in into the curve so much that it looks like a straight line. So was it shoot at 100m distance to the balloon, or maybe 1000m? Until you know that and input it into custom formula, you will not prove anything.
Thats what I'm looking for. The Azimuthal Equidistant map that is used at 10:02. This liar new the earth to be flat. That is why he is using this flat earth map. WAKE UP Everyone!
Lmao the azimuthal equidistant projection is useful for orthodromic navigation and for determining ideal antennae directions in point-to-point communication. It also predates your bogus theories. If a balloon ( or any object) goes into the air, it is completely at the mercy of wind. The air will move anything it touches. A piece of paper can blow down the street on a windy day. So someone please tell me how the paper is connected to the movement of the ground. Any sober person knows it is the wind (or movement of the air, not ground). So clearly a balloon is traveling with the winds and currents.
Science is about observation, not biased conclusions to support agendas.

There was one rather large error, you said at the end that they stayed aloft longer than any other air craft which isn't even remotely close. Bob Timm had flew a plane for just shy of 65 days in 1959
I suppose that's true though they are different kinds of records. Bob Timm's Cessna wouldn't have lasted very long without refuelling.
His was the refueled, manned flight endurance record and apart from solar energy (which I think does count as refuelling of a sort) this record was unrefueled.

Based on the mathematical formula for measuring the curvature of a ball, given the high altitude, there should be at least a slight curvature, if the earth is a globe.
I paused the video and held up a straight edge to the horizon, and it is PERFECTLY FLAT!!
Something's not right. Either the curvature formula is wrong or the view is through lens that have the opposite effect of a fish eye lens, or the flat earthers are actually right!
This requires more unbiased investigation!

The footage you referred to is not what naked eye would see because cameras have zoom, and you can zoom in into the curve so much that it looks like a straight line. So was it shoot at 100m distance to the balloon, or maybe 1000m? Until you know that and input it into custom formula, you will not prove anything.

Lmao the azimuthal equidistant projection is useful for orthodromic navigation and for determining ideal antennae directions in point-to-point communication. It also predates your bogus theories.
