I spent a good 3 days fiddling with this app myself and had pretty much the same experience - it took more work to teach the app how to do things, than to actually use it. And it was SO expensive for what that was (Definitely more than $20 a month). It was so incredibly unpredictable that it was more overwhelming than taking half the time to implement a GTD system.
I used to be so stubborn about only writing my to do lists and plans on paper but I’ve recently been trying to get out of that to be more efficient and it’s made a world of a difference 💜
You can create dependencies between related tasks in a project. Theyre called BLOCKERS in Motion. As long as tasks are within the same project, they can be halted and ordered according the sequential order they must be done in.
Thank you so much for putting all this work into learning about this app and saving me a lot of time and money by avoiding this cumbersome app which clearly overpromises and under-delivers!
For the tasks that you want to do in order you can create blocking(dependencies) Block Turn in report to not show up on your calendar until after you have written the report and like wise brainstormed for the report.
So I cannot speak for the timeline that you made this vid, however It does seem like they have revisited almost all of the points you have mentioned. I am using it now and I am very happy with it. That being said, I am no longer paying out of pocket. I paid for about 6~ months and then work started picking up the tab. when this tool can get you 20-25% more productive, at the enterprise level, its worth every penny.
I've been watching your videos for years and they've been so helpful! I'm so glad I watched this one, saved me so much time because I definitely would have fiddled with the app forever. Thank you!
I'm glad I found your video. I tried Motion but I quickly got frustrated with it due to a lot of the hiccups you mentioned in your video. Definitely a lot of room for potential though.
this app advertising is EVERYWHERE! And thanks to this video I will not even try it. Did not look like something that would help me. Thanks for the review!
I’ve had the same experience. Great in principle but with no nesting of sub-tasks it’s pretty much unworkable. At this price I expected it to be much better.
Yeah had the same feeling from my two days on the trial. One idea I'd suggest is having an AI (With a name) Let's just call it Mikey. Who greets you when you open the app and helps you plan your first week step by step while explaining how the app works would be such a cool experience. ATM this doesn't feel very different from other Mgmt software I use and in many ways more confusing
I would love some integration with ChatGPT or similar, where you can explain how and why you want things to be scheduled a certain way. Have it do the thinking for us. My difficulty overall is that I struggle to estimate how much time something takes and have everything put into categories and priorities. That's what I need help with. I thought Motion would be the closest thing (before we literally have virtual assistance that resemble human assistants as much as possible - hopefully not to far away) cause lets be honest, if AI can't do that then what is the point?
Thanks for this review. We did a review of existing auto-schedulers a few years ago and this is an interesting app which struggles in some of the same ways.
Thank you for doing this video. I've been having the same issues. It became even more frustrating to plan within this app. I also didn't like that it's just on this dark theme. All-in-all, planning within the app has become more time consuming and frustrating
THANK YOU for this review. While an AI assisitant is a neat idea, this company seems to have released a product before it was fully developed. Also it's actually $36/month on the monthly plan and $20/month on the yearly plan... so $240 for the year. Which is really steep for a half-baked "AI" tool.
Ive been fiddling with this app for several hours and since it was unable to sync properly with my ical, it pulled my workday schedule in - incorrectly and the times were inaccurate like caregiving for my mom at 12 am on weekends but during the daytime hours during the week. Not really worth it, but great potential
Motion is the first productivity app I have used and I just discovered time blocking so I kind of like it. But I do have problems with what happems to unfinished tasks, and with the way Motion insistd on scheduling things over my already blocked calendar items. And that price.... Any other recommendations?
same issue! I was planning to message their customer support if they're planning a solution for that. Cause I loved the tool during my trial period. But that was an issue for me. Also, sometimes on start it keeps loading for ever 🙄
@@kasiawrz I haven't yet. I haven't looked wither. I'm struggling to figure out where to start on productivity. I just find myself procrastinating more than anything
Aye I was testing this out now and they charged me even though I'm new, however I had the same issues it's still quite buggy and I'm not sure it's in a place for full project management. Also, I have no idea why you would add a bulk task upload feature and if they do have one I can't find it. It also did not integrate with other apps I use yet, which is such a bummer. I think if they can get the AI down they may be better off licensing the tech to other built out project management platforms.
Perhaps the app confused your language style. "Turn in the report" is a phrasal verb and we tend to make headlines short, key on the calendar. May you rewrite "Submit the report" would help the app precisely understand your intention.
Lots of love to Ukraine ❤️ I’ve been sharing as many resources as possible on Instagram and I’ve saved everything in the highlights in case someone is interested
You obviously didn't setup your Motion account properly or take the time to understand how to use it. I recommend that you take more time to fully understand an application before creating a misleading video review.
You sound like a bot from the company. Read the comments, most people are having the same issues (including myself). The video is also an opinion of her experience. Therefore, it should not be taken as a fact.
Agreed. Why would I decide for a fact whether to use a tool from someone who's learning it themselves for a day or less than a week? And a year later I'm sure the dev team have made improvements anyway. Many of us are too impressionable.
I'd imagine most of the folks watching this have had difficulty with it otherwise they wouldn't be watching it, no? I mean that's typically why I check out how-tos@@adrianrafael6538
Thank you for making this video.
This presentation saved me the rabbit hole I would have fallen into.

Thanks for pointing that out
You can only have one blocker per task. Sometimes you need to accomplish 2 or more in order to advance in a project.
RIP, I thought the app was going to be cooler. Maybe this is just the beginning of AI personal assistants...maybe it will get better with time
I’m positive that this will mean a 180 degree change in how we view productivity. Just needs to be tweaked accordingly
There used to be an AMAZING one called Timeful. Then Google bought it and shut it down, and there hasn’t been anything so good since 😢
Hello Mariana, appreciate your videos keep coming 🙏🏻 inspite of disturbance of war. Hope you & family all doing good and safe 🙏🏻. Takecare
This is definitely an introduction to AI in Task Management. Quite excited to see what's more to come, maybe within the next few years!
Excited to see what we’ll see in the future, too!
your comment aged very well :)

Nice. I fig'd over the last yr there's been "improvements". Thanks for sharing

Is there an automated scheduling app or one that's really good for figuring out prioirtization that you'd recommend like sorted3, akiflow, etc?

Such a bummer this isn’t better yet. Thank you for giving a clear review.
I don’t think anything has changed with the app. I really appreciate this video bc I thought maybe I was using it wrong

Thanks for this Mariana! This was a very insightful review and saved me a bunch of time!
Wow! AWESOME!
wish there was a way to color the tasks for each project so i don't have to write the name of the projects on each task
Thank you for this review, super helpful. Saved me so much time trying it out myself!
So glad to hear that!
Her review was a yr ago. I don't think she spent much time in it at the time. From what I've learned there's been a lot of improvements.
Thank you for making the video. A yr later, have you used it since?
This was two years ago, has the app improved since then ?
Considering this is now 2 years old, I'm sure some of these issues have been addressed and fixed?
Do you recommend an alternative?
Thank you very much for your video!
Your english is amazing!

Thank you for this!
Amazing video!!! Thank you so much!
What do you recommend for someone that has a task that has to be broken in different task or sub task as you said on this video?

Focus > Faff
A procrastinator isn't bad at organising stuff and scheduling, but in actually following the schedule.

It would be very interesting to hear your opinion on SkedPal. It's been around for a few years and automates your schedule as well.

It seems like it wants you to spend more time on project management so that it can try to save you a bit of that time scheduling it.
It cost me 15 Turkish Liras to try free trial. I do not understand why I am billed for 'free trial'. It is not a professional app
Nice to see an honest review vs a "review" that is just pitching a product basically

What’s the app in the thumbnail?
It’s the same one, I just flipped it to white because the dark version was unreadable in the thumbnail
Seems like a great app, thanks for sharing this Mariana.
Btw, i recommend Asana. Much more straightforward
