  • “It’s clear that actually, as a KGB officer, he was pretty mediocre.”
Whilst Putin ‘defends Russia’, he lets “his cronies rob Russia in the process”, says Mark Galeotti, Putin expert and author of ‘Putin's Wars - From Chechnya to Ukraine’.

Russian economy is stronger than ever despite or because of sanctions. They sell more oil than ever.Germany is suffering since sanctions. Reports say they are in a bad way. In 1991 Russia was on its knees. Putin threw out the oligarchs . At the moment the economy is thriving. The Army is stronger than at any time in history. New equipment is available .Factories are working round the clock. 100 new tanks have been produced each month. Ukraine infrastructure has not been reduced to rubble. It is important to remember that when Putin came up to officer rank in the KGB, they had about 30 percent as much uniformed "armed services" as the Soviet Red Army - because the "Border Patrol" and other uniformed "security" forces were in the KGB command. That changed when the Soviet Union fell. Oddly Putin has overseen the stripping away of the para military forces from the new SVD, going so far as creating a "National Guard" that has usurped "security service" power. And the Interior Ministry has also absorbed some of the old KGB's forces inside the Russian state. Compared to when Putin started the "security service(s)" power has grown just a little, but that power has been spread to many more agencies outside the current "KGB".

Putin is sickly obsessed with some assumed glorious Russia of the past. This obsession clearly impairs his way of handling reality, further worsened by the absence of counter pressure within the Kremlin. For example RU sacrified lucrative long term energy exports to western Europe and has within two years played away naval dominance in the Black Sea AND in the Baltic Sea. But his power machinery still seems intact meaning continued misery for Ukraine and to a lesser extent, Russia's citizens.

This war has exposed our vulnerabilities if such a scenario did play out and we have essentially been given a heads up which we should not ignore.

We must see the economic, technological and military “power” of Russia in perspective. Russia is indeed a huge country in square km, but only has 144 million inhabitants ( Mexico 128 million, Japan 123 million). This is 40% of USA or Eurozone. The GDP of Russia however is only 4% of the GDP of the Eurozone + USA, this is equal to the GDP of the small countries Belgium + Netherlands. And less than the GDP of the state of California. Relatively (per capita) the GDP of Russia is very low. Beside that the economy of Russia has signs of a 3th world economy. Half of the income is coming from oil & gas. Based on this, Russia isn’t a world power. And for sure, it isn’t a economic power. This is the reason they can’t build up and maintain a big army. The army they already have is far beyond normal proportions in relation to their GDP. This hurts their budgets and prosperity permanently. In this perspective, Russia is a dictatorship with a huge inferiority complex and dangerous megalomaniac ambitions. The path they chose will be their downfall.

Its problem is that (I believe) as things stand, the UK would not be able to get enough personnel and equipment to the likely field of action rapidly enough. UK needs a larger fleet of C5 and C17 aircraft in addition to a small standing army in the Baltic countries which is where it's actually needed more than in the UK. The same goes for France, Germany, Poland and Finland. 15,000 personnel and 100 tanks from each would probably be adequate. @@marystapley309 Forgive me, but you have a very one-dimensional view of Vladimir Putin. Please hear me out. When he was handed the reigns of the presidency by a corrupt, inept and almost entirely controlled Boris Yeltsin, the Russian Federation was on the very brink of total collapse. Over the course of more than two decades, he lifted Russia out of near-total ruin. When Yeltsin resigned, the country was being run by a group of greedy, vicious, and cynical oligarchs, who consistently acted against Russia’s interests. These vultures quickly joined forces to oust Putin because they realized he stood in their way of continually clawing at and stealing Russia’s abundant resources. These were hardly "weak yes men." Yet Putin prevailed over them and despite ever-escalating measures by the west, he has led Russia to unprecedented prosperity. Russia's economy, more than 8,000 sanctions notwithstanding, grew by 3.8% last year, making it Europe's fastest growing economy. In terms of PPP, Russia has now become the world's fifth largest economy, surpassing Germany, who are now spiraling into recession; mainly because of the sanctions they imposed on Russia. The U.K. is almost there too and the rest of Europe isn’t too far behind. The Russian agricultural, manufacturing, construction and private sectors are booming, and unemployment is at historical lows. In fact, Russia is facing a possible labor shortage due to the rapid increase in demand for domestically manufactured goods and infrastructure projects. I could go on and on with what Putin and his team have accomplished, but if you were to research Putin and the realities of today's Russia, using objective resources instead of relying on this hack in the video, who merely regurgitates the corporate media script, you will broaden your view of what is happening in this world. Do a CZcams search on economist Richard Wolff, he did a few recent videos that might give you some good insights. @@TheBandit7613 Nobody claimed Ukraine was a superpower. That's why Putin thought "wrongly" he could take it in 3 days. "Boy oh boy , was he wrong". He launched the worst military debacle in the past 100+ years. Just yesterday a Russian son got liquidated every 62 seconds and the black sea fleet had it's TITANIC moment. Have you seen the footage of the Ivanovets going to the bottom of the black sea with all hands lost? All that's missing is Jack and Rose.. "I'M KING OF THE WORLD".😂😂😂

In fact Ivan IV the Terrible has never been referred to as the Great. Instead, his grandfather, Ivan III, goes by the name "the Great" often for his contributions to codification of laws among other things, although he is much less known than his grandson, especially in the West.

It depends on what you mean by mediocre - officer, "educated" person, or just simply a normal man? Or as an evil man?
He is very sophisticated in this last part.
His level of any education in subjects outside the KGB-specific ones is between the C and B minus.
But a set of unfortunate circumstances brought him up. Almost in the same way it happened with Stalin. Although I'd admit that even Stalin was smarter and more educated.
