  • Hey guys, here is some information on what was done to fix my Curtis Cab heater. If your looking to purchase this cab or already have this same cab and heater. This is the fix for the air flow issue. Thanks to Messicks and there mechanic Ed that was able to find the Curtis cab Heater flaw and get it working for me.

Another reason I won't waste money on one of those ridiculously over-priced cabs. The heaters are hit and miss, and for $5k that shouldn't be a problem. I most likely won't use the tractor at all in the winter because I have a blower for my lawn tractor.
A Kubota BX would be great, but my dealer hasn't had one in stock for over a year. They're selling them faster than they can get them into inventory. They've got 150 on order, they usually only sell maybe 24-30 BX units a year LOL, they've already sold their inventory for this year plus. So I have no idea when I would get one if I did buy one. My list is growing though of tractor type chores around the property, but I keep doing everything by hand like I've always done. Event the local rental place that has the L-Series tractors have them rented out all the time, they only have 2 of them though LOL....they were talking about purchasing a few more rental tractors, but they said they're not going to because this past year is just a short term scenario of usage by people, once they all go back to work it'll come to an end and they'll be stuck with equipment payments they cannot pay for.

Good informative video Pete. I have a heater going in a customers BX cab now. I'll check to see if we run into the same air flow problem

Pete not to say the mechanic is not telling the truth, but I have a bx 2680 with a Curtiss cab. I installed the cab myself, in doing so I noticed the lower vents weren’t blowing as you did, before I had completed the install of the cab. So I went looking, and found the duct work behind the vents were installed ninety degrees out of alinement, in short the the air coming from the fan was not directed to the vents. For me a simple fix, because The install was it complete, I was able to remove the plastic housing of the heater, and turn the ducts 90 degrees so the air from the fans was directed to the lower vents. The rest to the install when well and everything works as it should. If the cab had been completed, I believe you would have to remove the windshield in order to disassemble the heater unit. To get access to the heater ducts.
I enjoy the videos keep up the good work

Sorry I missed your comment buddy, I didn't see it hiding as a replay to another comment... I believe that it was the Technician's mistake as well if I'm being honest... But I didn't want to say it in the video. I was told it was a Curtis cab flaw and went with that in the video. I think this was the first cab they did and it was a learning process for them/tech. I think I was told it was a flaw so that I would just except it and move on instead of have them fix there mistake. But since I don't have hard facts of that to be true, I can only make a video of what I've been told.. I'm sure you understand. And if what they told me is BS, they will get pushback from Curtis not me. So either way my hands are clean. LOL

I will be thinking of you this winter, when im sittin on my new x738 without a cab and watching your videos. Oh, BTW, your pretty much the reason i got my JD this year! I was sad to see it go, but im in the same boat you are, always looking to upgrade! Love your videos Pete! Keep them comming!

Thanks buddy! The X738 is a great machine just like my X739 was... I miss the AWS, but it just wasn't enough.. Put a CTC loader on it and a 3 point hitch, a curtis cab with heat... Then you will say... SHIT i should of just upgraded lol... I was scared that the CTC loader would damage the frame since JD wasn't making the New X700 series like the Old X700 "ULTIMATE" series that they offered a loader with. Best advice I can give you is to upgrade sooner then later so you don't lose that much on the JD on trade in. If your gonna keep it? It will last you a lifetime. Great machine.

@@KubotaMonsterBX23S it will probably be my life long machine. My dad has the big deere with the loader and hoe. So i can use it at anytime. The JD is the first big purchase that ive ever made. I also made the weight bracket that X749SE made for his front. Its all i need for the time being. You are the best Dad innthe galaxy! 😎

My x38 Deere has a 2 speed heater on the lower left. Barely blows enough air too get only half the window clear. Not safe during heavy snow work.. it’s a small cpu fan, was thinking of putting a usb fan on top too help move air from the top vent too other size of the cab

So in other words Curtis made this cab with heater and NO ONE at Curtis bothered to see if it actually worked, The the cab went to Messicks and they installed it, but NO ONE there bothered to check either whether or not the heater was working properly (the vents) instead just sending it out for the customer to deal with and hoping the customer would just think that's the way it's supposed to work. How have we gotten to the point where this kind of craftsmanship and quality control is okay? If you were to buy an off brand generic tractor, snow blower and cab at Walmart or Home Depot, it should function as advertised but if it doesn't you kind of figure you got what you paid for. When you buy a Kubota, John Deere or other high end tractor and equipment, this kind of things should never be an issue, you SHOULD get what you paid for and what you paid for is not some inferior, sub-standard, this is good enough tractor or piece of equipment. I get a bit "touchy" when I pay top dollar for something that doesn't work right especially when it is brand new and just delivered from the dealer. There should be no problems to begin with and if there were any they should have been caught in the shop during a pre-delivery check on the tractor/equipment. I've tried to think of a good excuse for that not being done and as yet haven't been able to come up with one. Manufacturers don't care, dealership doesn't care, shop employees don't care and we get screwed.....then WE care.
