- I think we were all surprised when Sony announced the back button attachment. Their first real nod to the competitive scene, where gamers are looking to reduce their reaction time in games. The PS4 Back Button Attachment is a low cost, retro-active option for any existing Dualshock 4, and it's finally here! Let's take it out of that sweet cardboard, review it, talk about the PS5 potential, answer some questions, maaaaaybe even roast some marshmallows. But you have to bring the chocolate and graham crackers. It's only fair.

wow you tube recommended actually recommended me something useful, had no idea this was a thing, feels like this was specifically made for me ive been umming and arrring about maybe getting one of the 3rd party pro controllers but not feeling like i would use it to its full potential considering the cost so this fits me just right getting to experiment with having back buttons while keeping the comfy standard ps4 controller i love, your review was awesome as well and having the same charging dock as me means you really covered all my questions, i can only see one down side and that is wearing out the jack input for headphones constantly taking it on and off but personally i don't use it so no problem

Li TT that has never worked for me, I’ve even taken them apart and they still don’t work. At least not on my older controller. The drift gets really bad on ps4 controllers too. I’ve had my current controller for like a month and it’s getting drift already
Makes me wonder what players are doing to their L3/ R3 buttons for abuse. A death grip is not required and basic maintenance does the rest.
The Black Knight Well, I play Death Stranding, Resident Evil 2 and those kind of games that are not heavy L3/R3 usage. My DualShock 4 is almost 2 y.o. and it's starting to fail in a few moments.
First off, HUGE thanks for doing this review. I almost went for a Scuff or Battle Beaver, your review made me aware of a product that imo is a better purchase. For everyone still looking for these, go to Walmart. I purchased one for $29 in Levittown PA. They had about 7 left. If you’re a reseller, drop off a cliff, but for everyone else on a budget get yours while they’re still available.

I actually own scuf impact, Aim controller, and battle beaver. This definitely can keep up with them all. I played with it since Saturday and it's definitely a game changer especially for those who can't afford scuf type controllers but want one. It's very comfortable and way better then that flimsy piece of trash strikepack. I play competitive with friends and you can definitely keep up with this device. I also used it on Doom 2016, BO4, BO3, NFS heat, and modern warfare. I highly recommend to anyone especially if they want a scuf. Save your money and get this.. Suggestion: (get a custom controller with mouse click triggers and bumpers and ad this device) thank me later....

Binding sprinting to this device for a CoD game makes it just kinda useless. Running isnt an issue while playing, pressing running doesnt restrict you from moving unlike jumping and crouching

I can imagine this being extremely useful with the upcoming Doom Eternal.

It would be nice if they would also make one with 4 paddles in the future. That way the competition for scuf and similar, more expensive options is even more significant. Maybe this will also lead to third party plug-and-play paddles (that work better than what is already out there... Collective Minds Strike Pack)

I think it will be when the next gen hits. This is probably to get people used to a DualShock 5’s back buttons before they come.
@@MyManJFKTV or testing the water to see how they fair with durability and if they are really popular or they might have a buttom add on for ds5 so its upto you if you want to pay extra for the buttons or not as I expect the controller cost to rise with buttons already installed.

I play with my fingers on L1 L2 R1 R2 and this attachement feels so GOOD ! My hands are in a perfect position for this attachement ! + I claw with my fingers on L1 R1 , claw for switch weapons or reload, in Fortnite I put Circle on the left trigger and jump on the right. For Apex and COD this is so good ! I put the Square button on the left back button and jump on the right and its so amazing honestly . Being able to charge my peacekeeper in peace while being able to shoot and open the door and closed it , Amazing . In COD Blackout , I was able to pop my perks and keep my aim ready to shoot somebody , I can run and pop my perks mid fights or just running away its AMAZING ! Get it !
I'm loving it! It's perfect for The Last of Us, to switch between your holsters. No more having to stop running to use the D-pad to change them! Plus there was the fact that Target was selling them 5 days before the release date!
Yes. I love movie games, too. I hate good gameplay and having to think about getting better. Stuff like this is a godsend, I have such a backlog of bad gameplay games like Last Of Us to test this out on. *hopes for Knack 3 as a PS5 launch title*

I’m way behind in this one with not playing certain types of games but the DPad function is key more and more it seems. Running and needing to use the dpad at the same time is rough, so I’m looking forward to trying this out.

I have been outta the FPS games for almost 8 years and recently got back into COD with war zone and then Cold War and the amount of things that have changed in 8 years is insane and mostly it’s with the controllers. I starter looking at scufs and was even about to place an order for one when I figured I should read some reviews which is what led me to find this back button attachment. Seeing as I won’t be upgrading to a ps5 for awhile, it made way more sense to spend 20 bucks on this(caught it as I’m typing this for 10 bucks off) then 200 on a scuf controller.

I believe the Dualshock 5 is going to come standard with back paddles. I mean, really it makes sense. I never use my ring finger or pinky for anything other than gripping the controller. Why not have a button for them that comes standard on a controller? There is nothing worse than having to move your thumb off an analog stick to mash one of the face buttons.
Plus, Sony is going to try to make the PS5 backwards compatible with PS4 peripherals- including the Dualshock 4. So, for PS5 games that require or prominently utilize the back paddles, if you have a DS4 you can buy the DS4 back paddles instead of having to buy a DS5.
hey. great video. just a quick question for you. can you programme the buttons from the in-game "controls" menu? for example, when i am playing COD or Apex the R3 "melee" button bothers me and i want to get rid of it. is there a way to assign it to a back button? or the additional buttons mirror the existing setup? thanks

My Scuf impact broke within about a year and a half. Before I officially had to have it shipped off, the L3 button's run function (as many games use L3 as a means for sprinting) started to more than occasionally cancel my sprint. It was probably an issue with the stick itself, or the board that it uses in side the controller. The repairs cost me around $120 with shipping included. It's worth noting that my controller was a custom controller, which might've been used as an excuse for as to why the repairs cost so much. I was also charged for labor twice; once for when the interior board was replaced and then again for when the shipping invoice came in. $10 of labor costs was applied to the second invoice because they had to apparently change the face plate on the controller, of which was not part of my repair request. I DID ask for them to touch up the paint on the 4 right side buttons....but I'm not sure why I was charged an additional $20 for an entire face plate. I might as well just touched up the paint myself....as it's just a ruby red color. Overall, I can't help but feel like I was being nickle and dimed for a couple of simple repairs....

Very good application of this is for SoulsBorne games. You can put the sprint button to a back paddle. Sprinting with circle makes it hard to turn the camera and sprint at the same time

Does the device activate the headphone jack without headphones plugged in? For example does it shut off the audio when it’s plugged into the controller?
Does anyone know if these will be able to have camera down for a mapping, so you could get better recoil control?

I still love scuf though especially because of the customization. This is however great for people that are not super competitive, and it is great for people with less money.

Question: was there ever an issue where you accidentally hit the OLED screen and had it change the buttons on you or even change to a different set up you have? That would be a concern of mine.
Nope, it actually needs to pressed in hard to tweak the controls. So unless you got very strong fingers, no problem

I tried to put this attachment on my scuff controller (paddles broken) but it doesnt seem to turn on or work? Any ideas...
Does this do an auto rapid fire/turbo function? Looking for something to help with button mashing games that need repeated pressing.
Playing Apex legends, and having sometimes issues with the configuration I tried especially to replace R3 and O...it makes it only worse for me. It's still to big so I press on it when it's critical action...and rip. It's a very good quality, jack is great but I guess I will need to practice..

psn applepatel I’ve tried the strikepack twice and had issues with both. The first one the cable wouldn’t work, and the second one the buttons on the actual controller didn’t work if I had the strikepack plugged in

I’ve found that pressing a button and the paddle it’s bound to doesn’t work at all. Pressing the same button before you let go of the paddle means it all counts as one press in my experience. However, pressing a different button while your holding a button seems to cancel the first button pressed in some or all cases, if that makes sense

You use your PS4 for something other than Bloodborne? Not sure how that works.
Does anyone have an issue with pressing both buttons at the same time? While holding one of the triggers, the other will not activate. It’s been like this since I’ve purchased mine many months ago.

nah you don't need that shit cuz xbox controller is already good and plus xbox has elite series controller which you do more customizable things like remapping ur buttons and changing the sticks.

@@alfieeu791 Actually D1 is quite hopping on the NA servers. Lots of D2 players are coming back to D1 too. The Crucible is still hit or miss if you are trying for a mode outside of the weekly match.

Personally I would prefer if the paddles were a bit longer, like the Xbox's Elite Controller, but for 30 € it's nice.
Quagmirekoa the ps4 back buttons are literally longer than the Xbox elite controller are you okay?

@@zadebtw Maybe I didn't use the right word because language barrier (I don't speak English well). What I tried to say is that I can touch Elite's paddles with my middle fingers in a more comfortable way than (apparently, because I didn't try this addon yet) this one.
