"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...", Part 2.
Another one of few(?) video games based on movies that was done right, especially a SNES game.
Re-telling or something of Episode V, where a farmer boy (who has a laser sword) travels on an ice planet, meets some critter, and learns magic. He then proceeds to fight some dude with a torso Lite-Brite (which may or may not have an ATM) who also has a laser sword (and he is totally not his father. TOTALLY NOT!) Elsewhere, the "some dude" from Episode IV flies a ship and gets frozen. The furry gets little screen time. Mode 7 is involved. The game is known for the ball-busting difficulty. While playing this game, I realized this game feels arcade-y.
Game is played on Brave (Normal). This game has some tweaks to gameplay here and there. Everyone has a special ability (Luke uses Force, Han uses Grenades, and Chewie has a Spin attack that sorta grants invincibility frames) and there is a double jump. Plasma, again, is spammed. I cheaped out on two bosses: the Carbon Freezing Generator thingy (had low health and it ISN'T an easy boss.) and Darth Vader (at least he isn't a problem.). No cheats are involved. "Dashing" and attacking activates it or something (I did this all the time on Vader on a physical cart.) I stink at this game. Plasma shot against Vader was intentional. Spammed Freeze on Vader because I remember making Darth Vader pink once. :3 -

One of my enduring memories of this game was Han's roll. I remember my friend and I played this around the time of the Clinton impeachment, and "Slick Willy" was a thing. Every time we made Han roll, my friend sung out "Slick Willyyyyyyy!", and it made us laugh. I have no idea why, but I remember that to this day.
When a game is so hard, every single enemy drops health.
And it would still kick your butt....on easy mode!
The nostalgia is strong with this one.
"I love this game"
"I Know"
This game!? I have played it and its hard as heck
I think you missed the reference lol

***** they already did another Super Star Wars video game for the SNES and that was Return of the Jedi!
+CaptainRidley Spoken like someone who never played the X-wing Series, or any of the Adventure games LA made in the 1990s.
"there isn't enough life on this rock to fill a space cruiser"
PROBABLY BECAUSE LUKE IS GOING AROUND BLASTING EVERYTHING WITH A PULSE, DON'T YOU THINK?
LOL
Many Species went extinct that fateful day on HOTH.
This cutscene 17:51:
In late 1992 a contest was launched exclusively in Electronic Gaming Monthly, which required the contestants to answer six multi-choice questions, and for which the "Grand Prize" was to have the person's likeness appear in this forthcoming game. The winner was Jeff Crosno, for whom the developers placed his appearance on a Rebel soldier in an Ice Fields of Hoth cut-scene, replacing the already existing facial graphics.
So that's why the face doesn't fit with the sprite.
Thanks for that trivia! Awesome to know and what an honor for the winner.
P. H. G. F. He looks rediculous
Wow that really does look bad. Never even noticed back in the day. Just flew through these SW games and moved on to other ones.
I remember that contest.
I think the difficulty adds to these games charm. They're easy when you know how, but merciless when you don't.
That was one of my favorite scenes from the original movies; when Luke Skywalker battled the Probe Droid in the frozen lake and had to jump around to avoid it
You didn’t like the part where he dodged and sliced up giant snowballs and birds...
My favorite part of the movie is when Luke fights his way through the robot spiders to reach his pod racer so he can fly it to the hangar.
I just watching the movie like 12 times and I agree. This game was very faithful to the source material.
My favorite part is when Han does the double jump in empire.
My favourite parts are when the millennium falcon goes into light speed right after going through the asteroid field and goes to bespin, and when Luke defeats earth Vader and then leaves bespin with the rebels, with 2 hands and unaware of who his father is.
Such an awesome game. I remember watching my cousin play the original SNES Super Star Wars back when I was a little kid and loving every second of it. One of my all time favorite game consoles. After all it's the console that made me into a gamer.
SnowHawk7 Same here! My cousin played this game too much. It was awesome watch him playing! 😊
1:23:46 When Han fight against the Carbonize, Imagine that his son Ben react It before the Battle of Exegol
Ben: Really, auntie Qi'ra?
Qi'ra: Yes, but It was your grandfather's idea since he, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, Rex and Echo used It since clone Wars before they Met Tarkin that he tried to trials Ahsoka and he Blow up Alderaan before your uncle Luke kills him
Love how the Falcon goes into hyperspace straight after the asteroid field level. Defeats the purpose of going to Cloud City to get the hyperdrive fixed. Nevertheless I loved this game! Great to watch it 20 years after release : )
"There isn't enough life on this rock to fill a space freighter."
Meanwhile........
Han's right when he says that, 'cuz Luke fucking murdered it all at the start of ESB
I love when you start firing the Falcon's lasers to the music at 44:21. XD
+KytanoSkorpius I never made it that far on this game. This was, to me, the hardest of the 3 "Super" SW games. Even on Easy setting.
Yeah, that's awesome!!
😉
TC Da Capo Really? I thought this was the easiest of the 3 lol. i beat super star wars years later and never beat return of the jedi. i couldnt beat the very last stage escaping the deathstar.
That wasn't my experience. Super Star Wars was easiest for me... On normal difficulty level, I was able to beat it within an hour. Empire was definitely a much longer experience and NOT as enjoyable. It repeated itself too much on the Hoth levels and the scrolls were beyond annoying.
I never finished ROTJ. I NEVER owned that game but did rent it. I almost finished it but got stuck on the last bit of the Death Star level, too.
I do recall that I liked ROTJ probably the least out of the Super Star Wars series.
This trilogy was by far the best representation of Star Wars in the 8-bit/16-bit era of console gaming.
For flight games, the Rogue Squadron games on the GameCube were much better... They're still basically rail shooter games, though. There really wasn't enough memory even in the consoles of the GameCube's generation to do completely free flight games in the Star Wars universe. The platform levels on Rogue Squadron: Rebel Strike definitely left something to be desired-- the control was wonky and aiming/lightsaber strikes were innaccurate.
Brian Hendricks whoa,WHOA!!! Why'd Luke kill his own Tauntaun!? That was his only ride out of the area! What's so confusing for
me,is also that his Tauntaun was waiting outside for Luke to come out of the cave an jump on. Though,in the movie the Ice-Wampa
came up from behind and knocked Luke off his Tauntaun and killed his Tauntaun, dragging Luke to its cave to devour him later!
This makes me want to grab my SNES and play this again. My fav SNES game!
Same here!

Lando immediately after Han arrives on Bespin: "I want every gun we have to fire on that man."
*"Health Sword"* sounds dumb. Should have called it *"Life Sabre".*
I almost think "health sword" is a meta joke because a lot of people misprounounced light sabre as life sabre or life saver.
Life Sabre? That was my idea. I guess you've beaten me to it
Goddamnit
Star Wars Episode V: Luke Goes Totally John Wick.
As aggravatingly hard as this game was, I still love it fiercely. Playing it all morning long on Christmas '93 is still one of my treasured holiday memories.
I got mine in X-Mas of 93 this TMNT Turtles in Time, and Mario All-Stars.
This year is 1993.
This game was especially hard for me. All three of them weren't exactly easy, but Empire specifically was a nightmare at some parts.
I think this one was definitely the hardest of the three games.
Wow, good thing the real characters didn't face this level of difficulty, or the empire surely would have won!
The NES version is even harder xD .
Lmao
The Empire Strikes back on the Super Nintendo is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
The start screen always gave me nostalgic chills back in the day. Still does.
I guess Luke is to blame for the lack of life on Hoth
The Life Forms, Keep Regenerating
If by lack of life you mean the lessening of two tauntauns then yes he is to blame
Dude they totally skipped the part where Luke gets his hand cut off and darth vader reveals to him he's his father.
Aww gee whizz buddy, thanks for the spoiler alert!
Turnip Juice not much of a spoiler alert when the movie has been out FOR ALMOST FORTY YEARS!!!!!

I remember completing this game when I was younger. Tried playing it again recently and couldn't pass the first Hoth cavern level....
i dont understand I got until the cloud city levels when i was 9, i cant even beat the 2nd level age 26
Normal...because gameplay turned out much more dynamic through the years. We even have control of the camera...

Back then, we were used to that style of gameplay...it's really hard to come back.

But Glad tô hear u can end It without dificulty.

I know right? Could you imagine playing a game now where if you didn't crush it early on you would just start over preemptively?
It's funny how Luke and Vader are only a few feet away from each other in a cut scene, yet you have to travel a billion halls just to reach Vader.
Probably because theres a deleted Carbonite Chamber level for Luke before this cutscene. You could see this level in the Manual.
20:45 i still hear the opening chords of this song in my nightmares because it took me literally over 200 tries to beat this level. To this day when i hear this song I feel like cursing loudly and throwing a nearby controller across the room.
26:26 - those accursed jet-troopers. Almost made the Snowspeeder level impossible.
33:17 What kind of messed up Rebel Commander authorized this kind of makeshift construction? 10 ft long swinging metal flails in the ceilings every 6 ft! MAKE IT HAPPEN!
I appreciate the sync up between the Fakcon's blasters and the game music during the asteroid field sequence. I found myself doing this every play through as well!
These games were difficult indeed, but it was challenging and the type of hard games that felt rewarding to beat. I grew up with all three of them but this one was my favorite. I remember writing down all the passwords for levels. The trick to the Super Star Wars games was to play them repeatedly starting from the first level and working your way up. There's a lot of trial and error involved, but you get better at memorizing the levels and bosses, and you start to get better skilled at handling what the games throw at you. The hardest level for me in ESB is the Cloud City level in the X Wing, cause it's hard to see the cloud cars shooting at you beneath the clouds. There's a couple parts that game issues in the Cloud City levels in general (both Chewbacca levels), but I swear, these games made you feel like you had conquered something when you finally beat them, it was a true feeling of accomplishment.
I remember this game being more frustrating than hard. The snow beast boss was the most memorable for me.
I remember playing this game alot, and finally completed it at about 3 in the morning. So tired but elated at the same time
In 1996 THQ announced that they would re-release Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in February 1997 in order to coincide with the "Special Edition" of those films appearing in theaters. The re-release is identical to the original version.
This game was beyond hard. I may have gotten to the second or third level. I still think I'd have trouble today with this despite being significantly better at video games than when I was 8 lol.
Yeah I won Super Star Wars, as well as Castlevania I-IV and Ninja Gaiden I-II, even Bayou Billy, but this was too much.
moballardful Either mistake or steping stool, Whatever makes you feel the air is fresh and renewing.
Which system was it on?
Back then I used to kill video games, and yes this was hard ass.. but I've tried playing a couple years back couldn't even pass the first stage I suck balls now
@Knut Gerber super mario world that's for n64 right, that's when my gaming stopped , but on kijji looking to pick up where I left off
That poor Tauntaun 😕
I used to play this game all the time on weekends when I was a kid. Good times. Glad to see Im not the only person that thought it was a difficult game!
hardest of the 3. I beat Super Star Wars after renting it twice. I beat ROTJ after a month. I never even made it past Hoth with this one
Props to this guy for beating one of the hardest games of all time
I remember playing this thing back in 1996. My parents let me rent this from Block Buster. I played this, while I was stuck at home, in pain from losing one of my baby teeth.
The memories.
This was my favorite to play on SNES along with the other Star Wars games as well
I can't believe I beat the Bog Monster as a kid without having a clue how the force powers worked.
Amazing! Good memories.
Remember the part in Empire where Luke kills his Tauntaun ? Yeah I don’t remember that part either.
Lol I know, I was like "Was that really necessary? "
It's good that they added the blast-deflection with the lightsaber on this game!
Oh man, I remember those days as a kid coming into this game from Mega Man, those first couple caves freaked me OUT because of all the spikes everywhere. Even after learning they wouldn't kill you in one hit, it was still very unnerving to look at!
Everyone remembers these games, but they would have been much more loved had they not been so needlessly difficult. There's challenge, and then there's brutality.
+Andrew Vrba Yes... "Brutality", I call this Child Abuse at the 90s :( 5yrs old shouldnt have suffered like we did
+Andrew Vrba This game isn't too hard, you that suck!
DO OR DO NOT THERE iS NO TRY!
P. H. G. F. Post a vid of yourself beating the game in one sitting, no assists, or shut up. *mic drop*

This game was much harder than I remembered or thought it would be. It was also super long. But it was extremely fun.
Super Star Wars: Episode 5 The Emipre Strikes Back was a very difficult game on the SNES with excellent music. Probably the hardest of the 3 games if you decided to play all the way through. I beat the game but took me 6 freaking hours!
Oh, I loved playing this game when I was a little kid. Spent many many hours playing it and didn't get bored of it at all. Also it was challenging enough for my younger-self.
Back when you didn't need ultra graphics to enjoy a game.. Good old times!:)
Totally agree!!!
I love Han Solo’s flips on Cloud City, lol. These Super Star Wars games bring out the excited kid in me just from watching these videos. I’m all about strict canon, but these games are pure imagination without limits and that’s a good thing. Btw, the Dengar NPCs are badass.
When I first discovered this game, I also discovered Star Wars for the first time!
Same
I have Super Star Wars and love that game. Had never seen someone play this game until watching a play through on this website several years ago. The three SW games for SNES are quite good.
these 3 games remind me so much of winter of 96. some cocoa and play these games. we were so into these. the 96 figure line, set up scenes with them. good times.
Princess Leia waiting for Han after blowing up the AT-ST as he rolled over to her was funny AF "are you done being a nerf-herder? can we go now please?"
I remember this game when I played It I was 10 years old. I did die quite a bit of times but my goal was to finish it just like the other Star Wars game. What a accomplishment!
Love this game so much.
one of my fav games ever, alongside with ROJ SNES :D
Swamp Creature Habogad is Dagobah spelled backwards. I remember it was a bith to beat him.
Joe Rodriguez It was so funny when Cookie monster was the Wompa monster
At 45.00 they blast in time to the melody of the tune. That's incredible.
The funny thing is most of them have official names.
52:17 Ancient Master Yoda. Now, he becomes Hermit Yoda.
Like the movie of the same episode, this one is my favorite.
omg the storm speeder level with the walkers was a BLAST lol
Feel old brings back memories
I've heard that his hand got cut off in "Abra-Catastrophe."
The only place Storm troopers can actually hit something is here....
Show de bola joguei muito esse clássico.
Disappointed this game doesn’t end on the classic “I am your father” Line.
Shooting the damn laser's in sync sorta really bringing out my PTSD
I like the part when you were in the Millenium Falcon and you would shoot your lasers to the beat of the music, lol.
Wow the Han Cloud City level was long.
i lol'd when i saw that the boss was the carbonite chamber
If THAT happened in the movie, Han would still be there and escape cloud city with everyone, then Luke would still duel Vader and lose, then everyone would rescue Luke including Han Solo then they all escape cloud city and meet up with the rebel fleet. Then, Boba Fett wouldn't get his bounty, so he would give up and leave without Solo captured.
Fun fact: on the snowspeeder level, you can actually shoot the AT-ATs to death instead of tow cabling them. It just takes patience and no semblance of a social life.
Super Star Wars The Empire Strikes back is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and STUNNINGLY AMAZING
This game sure had alot of variety in it's gameplay.
I own all those super SW games. I just love the simplicity.
This was the best game out of the 3. So damn fun
This game makes a better movie than the last jedi
It took me the better part of my elementary school years to get to the giant wampa boss. Not past, TO. If I'd known back then that there over a dozen more levels, I think I would have had a heart attack. Even when I was older, I never got beyond the Han Solo levels on Hoth.
Still one of my favorite games ever, though.
I still play this game which was downloaded on my psp!
"Do or do not there is no try" it's been while since I have play this game I am fan of snes and 64 games too
looks amazing as side shooter

Uno de los juegos más difíciles que he jugado, era una pesadilla poder pasar cada etapa
He looks like HE man and just shakes his head :D made my day

Wtf?! What did that Tauntaun do for the player that it needed to be put down!? Sheesh!
Had to stick to canon in place of Han to kill it for Luke to stay warm in
Too much probe droids. In the movie it was just one on Hoth. ^^ Great memories. I'm a PAL-Gamer and my father brought me this game for the SNES from a flea-market. I was very happy when he comes home and gave me the game. After opening i was shocked. It was the US-Version of the game. Oh no, what now!? After a week we got the adapter to play US-SNES-Games. Phew. The game was awesome to play, but very hard. I forgot how hard it was.
That looks awesome
Looks fun, and hard too. Never got the chance to play any of the 'Super' games. Had a Sega.
All time favourite definitely the hardest of the three
The swamp monster on dagobah was probably the longest boss battle I can remember
"Most impressive" oh man I used to love this
Those At-Ats . . . Hard even with the Game Genie codes.
I think you make a great point here, mostly because I was under the impression most of the videos posted by cubex55 used tool assist to achieve these runs with so few mistakes ( I have seen a few of the comments from the channel confirming this) but the comments on this video say 'no cheats' in the description, but I think its a tool assisted video still
Honestly this game is hard af lol props to anyone who beat this game
4:23 Cool!!! You found a Secret Room!
