Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire 100% JEDI Difficulty (N64)

- Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (1996, Nintendo 64) - JEDI difficulty, All Challenge Points, no cheats, no clipping, no glitches. This is more of a walkthrough/longplay than a speedrun, but below are some notes about it:
Jedi difficulty is actually one of the easiest modes of this game once you know what you're doing. Your blaster does CRAZY damage at 100% charge, usually a one-hit kill on stormtroopers. No other difficulty setting has that powerful of a blaster, so really "Hard" difficulty is the most challenging. On Jedi, enemies deal tons of damage and are accurate, so you have to be quick and essentially memorize all enemy locations to minimize deaths. Ammo is sparse, but the Blaster is so strong that it can carry you through the end of the game without the need for any other weapon. Mos Eisley (speeder bike level) also has a night fog effect.
Challenge Points award bonus lives at the end of each level, so collecting them all is essential. The only strategy besides quick reaction time and memorization that you need is to save all ammo for the Gladiator boss in Xizor's Palace, and rack up as many lives as possible for the inevitable death montage at Skyhook. The final stage, Skyhook, is so poorly designed in that you WILL die over and over until you reach the final phase with the reactor core; luckily, bonus lives are awarded after so many TIE fighter kills. But even with that, you want at least 10 lives going into the final stage on Jedi.
All music belongs to John Williams, Lucas Arts/Disney, and whoever owns those rights. I'm not running ads on this or making a single penny, so hopefully CZcams doesn't block it. Otherwise, I'll just have to beat Jedi all over again with the music turned off - not a problem, it's just tedious waiting 3 hours to render and upload the 2-hour long video.

Time Stamps Below:
0:46 Battle of Hoth
6:01 Escape From Echo Base
16:04 Asteroid Field
20:31 Ord Mantell Junkyard
29:54 Gall Spaceport
1:01:04 Mos Eisley and Beggar's Canyon
1:06:58 Imperial Freighter Suprosa
1:18:57 Sewers
1:29:46 Xizor's Palace
1:42:09 Skyhook Phase 1
1:46:49 Skyhook Final Phase
Gall Spaceport was pretty slow. I could definitely improve that, and I screwed up Mos Eisley at first and forgot to edit it out. Skyhook Phase 1 is always inevitably a death montage, but Phase 2 is such an awesome level.
1:01:04 when you actually needed jedi reflexes
gall spaceport is the longest level of the game, perhaps you can make it in 25 minutes but all other levels are not even close to that one.
i remember getting all the challenge points on jedi difficulty and the prize you win? all the abominable snow men dudes are now your friend, they follow you and attack enemies....there are like 4 of them in the entire game and they are super slow and nowhere near any place thats ever useful. it was a very lame prize for beating the game 100%. the debug menu cheat was a hell of alot more fun to play with than that. having said that this game was my very first n64 experience and i absolutely loved every single second of it.
@GoodOldDaysGaming this level is driving me crazy? It seems that, in my game, the Challenge Point inside the circular platform (where the AT-ST is) was replaced by Stunner ammo, but still the Challenge Points are 15 in total and so I am not able to find the last one at all.
Man, as a kid... The sewer level with those crazy monsters in the water was literally a terrifying experience. I still have PTSD to this day. I remember making my dad play that level for me because I was too scared
Realizing the game was T for Teens and I was probably 7 or 8 when I played this, probably not the wisest decision.
I wonder how i didn't had mental issues seeing, hearing and battling the gladiator on hard difficulty
Dark water monsters are probably my biggest fear. Half-Life's Ichthyosaur for example: czcams.com/video/mPEc6qsF0-Y/video.html
Hell, even wampas scared me. Lol
Yes!! That was super creepy!
This game’s levels were fucking beautiful for the time they came out, each level felt soo fucking unique. This game was sooo ahead of its time but actually managed to be a masterpiece, really wish this game got paid more attention to and got a remake
WIth unreal 5 Engine
Halo CE was the only other console launch titles that was like "holy shit" for me.
Been saying they need to remake this for years wish Disney star wars made this as a show animated or live action
@@bluetrapband3714I’d rather not. It would get Disney’ed.
Absolutely! The graphics look primitive by today's standards, but at the time this was an AMAZING game that made you forget the stress and struggle of the outside world for a few, magical hours. I think the music and sound effects were a huge part of the experience.
God.. I remember a bunch of kids at my school getting this for Christmas along with their N64 and basically everyone got stuck at the little walker boss near the start for a while then we had a snow day and there was no school and a bunch of us all went to my house to play that damn boss until we got to him, I think there was a tough assassin boy too or that might have been KOTOR
EITHER WAY that snow day playing this with my boys will forever be in my memories man
God, the times go by real quick huh
I love the use of real Star Wars tracks and the original soundtrack blends so majestically. This is one of the best Star Wars games. Love just listening to the soundtrack
The main menu screen music is iconic.
Shame it was never used in the films
Luiz Silva go play fortnite mate before you spew bullshit
No it's not I played it these last few days. it's a bugged glitchfest. sure it's nostalgic and all. I played this game when I was 4 or 5 it was my fondest childhood memory, I should have left it at that. When I played it over again this last week I realised how terrible the game actually is. It's buggy the hitboxes are messed up, the pathfinding is horrible. kinda ruined my good memories of it :/
Luiz Silva oh fucking hell cringy you had to use that word like the typical social media cretin fanboy you are. Well done
Man that final space battle was sick. The devs really went all out, programming all that flight model just for this one mission. Great finale
I never finished the game because I couldn't figure out how to beat the final space battle.
Man, this game was ambitious. It threw everything it could at the players.
Yeah.. looking back at this I can’t believe they fit all the different stuff on a cartridge with so much music as well
Not to mention it was a launch title.
yep
Level design at its prime. Modern games are all about graphics and easier controls but the levels themselves are so plain.
Especially the 2nd last level’s boss
IG88 was pretty scary. Took many tries to kill him
him and the Fett man
I agree, I was always afraid of battling him when a kid
And what was with that weird noise he made? As if the walking sound didn't creep me out enough as a kid.
Its so weird: just watching it gives me the same satisfaction these days at it did playing it, and i can pause and fast forward so it feels easier when you have to do stuff later
Oh, for sure my n*ggaz.
50:27 lol the fall with the music
Lmao😂😂😂
Underrated
Finally I find a man who has what it takes to be a Jedi for this game.
This was a very underrater game. It really dragged you into the SW world. Such massive environments for its time. Music was great and it was challenging while making you afraid of many risk as you moved thru the game.
You are a boss at this dude.
I sucked at this game on Jedi difficulty but hot damn this game was so much fun to play back in the day.
Me too, I remember beating it on medium I don't know if I ever went heart it on hard or Jedi but I loved this game. It was my first N64 game I had it even before I got Mario 64 because I was really obsessed with Star Wars at the time.
Scott Johnson same I could never get past it on Jedi my brother dodo it for me then neither of us could beat that scary as fuck underwater monster
Lol jedi difficulty was the most fun I had in the game, one hit kills, challenging turret sections, ord mantell in it's entirety, man...
@@halo34jess117 Jedi difficulty was easier than hard difficulty
I love Xixor's Palace theme as well as the Skyhook orchestral theme. It's sooo damn good
7:57 I absolutely love that sound.
I’ll never forget the storm troopers yelling, “ahhhh”!! When they fall to their death!
brings back so much memories, sat in my grandmothers place on a matress playing this on my cousins n64 that he had there, this, turok, southpark, perfect dark, what a time to be alive.....
35:52 Wait, Seekers actually do SEEK OUT enemie? Lmao now that was a mind blowing moment
Haha yeah, it's just that the missles didnt seek bosses is all
They don't work on bosses, but any enemy can be seeked hehhehe, you can even get a camera with the missile view.
@@AdolfoWWolf,
Yep. According to the manual for the game, ALL the bosses have a dampening field that disrupts the homing capability of Seeker Missiles.
...But I'm more wary of Disruptor Shots. The blast is too strong for even Dash to handle.
@@christopherchasteen4990thanks, that is some handy equipment heh. I love the disruptor effect on this game, a shame ir was never used in any movie, don't know if it is canon, but would be a sight to behold.
Yes! It was the good old days indeed! I remember I had this game and played it all the time. I loved Nintendo 64😀
probably the best star wars game ive played to this day. great soundtrack, it felt dark with the empire themed levels and music. my favorite parts were fighting bobba fett which is my fav character, the speeder race, fighting ig88 and the last level. so many memories ill never forget this game
thanks for the throwback. I remember dying trying to jump to that challenge point at 15:19 way more than I should have 20+ years ago
Even after nearly 25 years this game still has the best jet-packing action in any video game
yep
I loved this game so much. I used to rent a Nintendo 64 from the local video store just to play it. Never played on such a hard setting though and it's interesting to see where the other challenge points are! I really hope that this is re-released one day. Sega Megadrive and Commodore 64 have done it. Thanks for the vid - most appreciated.
Looking back on this game now, they sure made some goofy design choices. But man, did I sink a ton of hours into this treasure
Yea, a lot of the design choices were made to hide the limitations of the 3d graphics at the time.
I’m just going back and watching your older videos, and boy ole boy did I struck gold here! Used to play this so much as a child and I SUCKED! But, few good memories of my dad and I playing this together and him just watching me ‘fly’. As always Bill, you do amazing work! Thank you!
So many unforgettable moments in this game! The Battle of Hoth, escaping through the asteroid belt, jumping over obstacles on the train. The level to me that stuck out the most though: level 5, the Gall spaceport. It does everything. Awesome obstacles and terrain, jet pack, sheer cliffs, baddies around every corner (whether they be droids, troopers or even a wampa), an AT-ST miniboss, lots of hidden weapons, very starwars-y looking environment and sound effects, and after all that work you have to fight the great Boba Fett to top it off! I remember being terrified as a kid trying to get through that level. And when I finally defeated Boba Fett that first time... just like a child on a roller coaster... I waited for my hands to quit shaking and played the level all over again!
55:00 .. I'll never forget that long elevator ride to death.
My God, the section where you battle Xizor's fighters is insane.
Great N64 launch title showed what can be achieved with the N64 hardware in a decent Star Wars story, played this many years ago and got to the level with the jetpack, nice video by the way.
This game had one of the best Star Wars EU stories. There is a lot of games made which are good enough to be made into films. Shadows of the Empire is one of those games that was really good enough story to be made into a movie.
1:19:23: "Blast him!" - Red Coruscant Guard- I tried to play this on Jedi mode, but couldn't get past Hoth. But did beat Hoth on Hard mode, but couldn't get past Echo Base. 🥵🥵 You're the man at this. My favorite level is the Sewer level and Ord Mantell junkyard level. I beat the game on the easy and medium modes on my channel. The Dianogas used to scare me as a kid. Since it's under Prince Xizor's palace, I wonder if it was his pet and he would throw those who displeased him in there as punishment?😱😱 At 1:28:30, Imagine if the room filled up ALL the way? You'd have to beat it quickly or Dash would drown in nasty sewer water.
25:56 ok, who's the asshole that threw out a whole Star Destroyer?
Never quite got that one.
I like there is an AT AT in there too.
It was Galen Marek! 😂
@@nothingforgrantedPS23 there is also a sandcrawler and a giant Lambda Shuttle, identical to the one in Fallen Order, funny enough.
This was the very first FPS that I ever owned and played. Then Doom 64.
I remember how hard the second to last level was on Jedi, when trying to get all the challenge points. That Gladiator battle was tough for me.
I still play this, both on my N64, and on the PC version I bought through Steam. Both versions are a blast! Thank you for posting it, it was a great watch. "Like" has been earned and given. :)
I still come back every once in awhile and watch this playthrough. Thinking about starting my own LP channel and streaming games. I have a channel on twitch, but I don't have enough people following/watching, to make a "career" out of it.
Bringing back some deep memories! Like seeing a long-lost friend. Thanks for posting!
Watching a speedrunner in any game is badass the time and effort you guys put in
I remember playing this constantly with my brothers on n64. We didn’t have a memory card so every time we would play it we would have to stay from beginning to end and not die. We never finished the game, but it was fun to spend countless hours on this game
You know that Shadows of the Empire saves data onto the cartridge itself, right? It didn't require the Controller Pak, so my guess is that you had a defective or old battery (if you were playing this way after the game's release) inside of the game which needed to be changed for the save feature to work.
It's a shame this doesn't have more likes. You rock.
Now that i know a lot about videogames i can't help but notice the similarities the on foot levels have with doom, if you were to make a first person shooter you had to be like doom, but the on ship levels are really creative, this and X-wing amaze me at how they used a single image to represent the flight instruments... Radar, target and ship status, very convincing for me, also the thing that the ship can boost, slow down and make full vertical loops is very interesting.
Good job man this was one of my favorite games on the N64 couldn't stop playing it great memories kept on renting it until i bought it i try it on jedi it was hard for me
Used to love the canyon level. Always thought the Hoth level was better on this than rogue squadron. Still looks good.
This is an Awesome playthrough great Job.
29:55 just listen to the music......
Gall spaceport had the best music. AND was probably the best level.
the whole soundtrack on this game was great.
@@BatManThugs because they used original recordings from the movies and looped it in a way it fits the levels very well
My fav out of this game will either be Xizor's Palace, the Skyhook battle or the Main Menu theme
Ord Mandell -> Boss Theme -> Gall -> Xizor’s Palace
WOMPA STOMPA
This game scared the fuck out of me when i would play it for some reason.
tell me i'm not the only one that saw IG-11 from the Mandalorian and thought "IT'S THE JUNK TRAIN DROID FROM SHADOWS!"
I can’t believe you still playing this game!! playing like a Boss👏👏
@Good Old Days, as a man, I am saying muchas gracías for this walk through! This shitos....yo....
THIS SAVAGE ASS WALKTHROUGH IS BY FAR THE BEST N64 SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE WALKTHROUGH I HAVE SEEN YET!! RIC FLAIR VOICE:WOOOOOO! I always wanted to beat this on Jedi, and I never did. I actually used some cheat code on Medium difficulty. But I never played this on a Jedi level when I was around 8 or 9 in New Orleans(waaaay before Hurricane Katrina wiped out New Orleans ya heard me?!). Now I know the true Jedi ending and special secrets at the end of the game on the Jedi difficulty thanks to you sir! I miss this game so much! I would play this game and Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Super Mario 64 respectively! Now at 28, I am playing Gods Of War 1 and Syphon Filter Dos on my PS VITA. Gracías again man! Have a great 2019!
the gladiator was by far the hardest part for me when I was a kid. you made it look so easy
Even with today's games, this is still by far one of the best video games I have ever played.
Back in the days when games were fine being games and not bad imitations of real life...
Alex villela Yup. I miss when games were like this.
just words
Before micro transactions and DLC
well then buy games like squad or post scriptum. they are good imitations of real life and have dwindling player counts because everyone would rather play battlefield (bad imitation of real life)
The great part about old games like this: you buy them, they're yours, they work. No subscriptions, no updates, no lost cloud saves, no dlc.
I love how this walkthrough version gets all the challenge points.
This is still my favorite star wars game. Playing this as a kid when it was newly released was awesome.
that dirty smile on Dash´s face at the end :D It´s hilarious!
I used to love this game as a kid. Thank you!
One of the best endings ever.
This game is so underated.
I just find it hilarious that the highest difficulty is "Jedi" and they say you truly are a Jedi Master after you beat it, yet you didn't play as a Jedi in the first place.
I know its kind of ironic in a way
Patrick Spears derp
Some of this are Jedi like Feats though.
Tsh highest difficulty??
I couldn't even get past the junkyard train ride on Hard mode because those flying droids kept shooting me at the same area
"Hey boss, where shall will keep the security key?"
- "Let's put it at the bottom of the sewer"
"Yesssir..." o.O
I never got past the room with the sliding doors, lol. I don’t even remember if I even figured out that those panels on the wall slid the doors open, the worst part was I didn’t have a memory card either so I would get up to this point and become completely stuck, lol. Wow dude you really rock this game, definitely a super hard game on Jedi difficulty, kudos to you.
I did this
Saving all my ammo for the gladiator droid and all those challenge points
Takes me back to the late 90s
As a kid playing this on my N64 I used to hate leaving dead bodies of snow troopers on the Outrider, so I would try to lure them out so I wouldn't have to escape through the asteroid field knowing they are still on board.
Lmao I love it. I remember the wampas scared the living hell out of me.
@@billable1861 lol They used to scare me as well. I’m not sure why though. Maybe it was their roar.
@@billable1861 God me too. I think it was them just wondering around the base that scared me.
I always left the Snowtroopers in the Outrider alive. Travel buddies
I use to take down the at-at with blasters just cause you could actually do it.
This looked fun to do honestly, it ran super smooth
Excellent playthrough of this classic Star Wars game good old days!! lol my gripe with this game was some of the challenge point locations! The one definitely at 56:11 lol, seriously how was ANYONE supposed to know the last challenge point on gall was by those hanger doors?
Congrats, awesome run! I'm on the final level on Jedi level and it's kicking my trash!
Yeah, it's a death fest on that stage until the actual Skyhook part.
I was terrified of the sewer monsters as a kid. I powered through that level like 1 time and almost crapped myself at the end.
Played the hell out of the rest of it though!
It's funny because Dash Rendar isnt even wearing a protective suit. His eyes would sting under the green sewer water and he is swimming in human and alien piss and shit and he would have got really sick.🤢🤮
Todays kids thinks that graphics makes a game good, but this game demonstrates that it is not true
Wrong. This game was really graphic heavy at the time. Do basic research.
Yes, but it’s nothing compared with today's games graphics
This battle of Hoth was amazing...
I came here because I could have sworn there were items and maybe a challenge coin in the window above the Millennium Falcon's hangar and I thought for sure a 100% playthrough would finally show me how to get it after wondering for 25 years but now I can't find any information about those items at all.
Ah that sweet sound of troopers screaming when you shoot them off the ledge lol. Always made me crack up.
1:26:23
"Wow KS man not cool"
41:45 what a trol xD
Ha, yeah. I got my revenge in my speedrun of Jedi 100% and knew where he was hiding.
For 37:57, I never did that.
I always got the jetpack and went back down. Certainly the safer option.
Correct then u got the red challenge point down
This game was just too awesome on my big CRT TV...
This was my favorite game back in 98 or 99. I used to get so frustrated with this game because it wasn't the easiest game to play. It was quite hard honestly and certain levels. And just the whole vibes the game gave me everything about it was amazing. I love the music I love the shooting and the reloading. I loved fighting the bosses and I love that Star wars vibe that it gave me. I was a big Star wars fan as a child. In 98 or 99 I was either 12 or 13. So sick. I need to get an N64 again with this game, Mario 64, Wave Race, and the '98 Olympic game from japan was so so dope
I played this game growing up. I think it caused me more stress than enjoyment.
This was a fun game, made during the golden era of Star Wars!
Amazing video!!! Well done!!! Love it!! Did you play this on Nintendo 64 or an emulator? The graphics just look so epic on this video compared to all the others on CZcams I can’t help but wonder!!
oh man,... i still remember that final boss.. so epic
i think this was a precursor to the star wars battlefront series other than super star wars because the modes, the guns have nearly the same rules, and has that star wars feel.
When you don't remember beating the game until you watch this video and boot back up the copy you have to make sure your not crazy. Turns out you did.
a fellow Jedi Master...I'm impressed! I did it w/ a N64 back in 1996.
I remember attacking the Star destroyer at the end. After an hour or two I got it to 99% I spent another few hours trying to get it below that but it will not go lower than 99%
You got Star Destroyer to 99%?!?!
It can't be! Man, you have my respect.
Hahahahahaha I tried it too. Also I tried to destroyed all ships in the battle and kill millenium falcon crew
This soundtrack is golden
50:22 Favorite part when I was a kid. :)
😂😂😂 YES
The memberberries are strong with this one.
Amen brother...
Man, i remember playing those levels so many times, that i could do the outrider levels without dying, and started discovering bugs and exploits like one with the jetpack, if you strafe while in flight, at enough height so that you don't touch the ground, Dash would swing like a pendulum, almost 90 degrees angle, if you turn off your jetpack at this moment, and strafe to your side that is upwards, you would start flying a bit, and if you do that in the direction of a wall, you could climb it even above the maximum height of the level, it was insane. Had great experiences with this game, and the music is pure star wars awesomeness.
I remember this one bug in the theed palace where youre going up some spiraling stairs and out of nowhere if you step in a certain position in the stairway something shoots at you but luckily you can destroy the invisible thing that shot you
@@fargeeks Man these old games had the crazyest secret bugs hehe
@@AdolfoWWolf it did
In that spaceport level if you jetpack your way all the down in the death pit, you'll literally hover a few feet from the instant death barrier
@@fargeeks Lol it's true man, sometimes you felt that you just broke the game, i managed to walk on the top of the canyons on Gall, and seeing the walls where paper fin for the first time was pretty weird yet satisfying.
@@AdolfoWWolf even weird how you actually could not chase that shuttle, and also i know how to get to that hanger without the shuttle taking off, and the spoiler??
Haha you can walk right through it
I think I made it as far as the boss battle of xizors palace on Jedi. Then I was like welp, fuck that shit!
Oh you save my life! thanks man.
this game was light years ahead of it's time. Pun intended. soundtrack, graphics and gameplay. one of the best.
Walking on first person view in Gall Spaceport is the worst thin you can do...that place feels like someone spread soap in every point of the ground
Now that was a BEAD by that AT-ST. What a shot. 4:50.
Getting to the Skyhook was painful to watch. Those fighters absolutely shred the Outrunner.
Nice Jedi difficulty run.
It is indeed bad level design, but that second half is fun every time.
I find Hard is actually harder than Jedi, because enemies take for ever to die.
It is, yeah.
@@GoodOldDaysGamingI’m playing hard now and I’m still stuck on level 2
In my Shao Kahn voiceos: EXCELLENT.
I forgot how exciting the music was in this game. My brother Lee let me play it when I was young, never got very far.
I think hard mode is worse that jedi mode, because enemys life in hard, is a lot more than jedi.
Yeah, it is.
@@GoodOldDaysGaming I am trying to beat Xizor's Palace on Hard. I have put in a good month of practice playing a run every night and I am still not as good as you are, I couldn't imagine doing a run-through of the entire game. The third form of the Gladiator droid is really hard but it looks like your technique was to stand underneath and just strafe to avoid the eye laser while firing pulse cannons. Did you have a particular technique for strafing to avoid the eye laser or did you just move around randomly? I am grateful that the first two forms of this boss have really effective exploits. I found crouching while standing directly underneath the second form was an especially effective way to avoid the flame and pulses, I can beat the second form with taking minimal damage. The third form is slaughtering me though.
Jedi setting was a must! It fairly balanced the storm troopers. Basically a 2 shot kill of they caught you off guard.
What I want to know is how he is getting 1 to 2 shot kills. In hard mode it takes me 5-6 shots to kill the storm troopers
I always lose my shit when the stormtroopers fall in a mock Wilhelm Scream, like 34:36
