The Cord. Online premiere. Director Olexandr Bubnov. This animation film is about blind maternal love, overcare, that doesn't let the son grow into a man, but makes his inner child stay helpless and infantile for ages.
I cried out so hard because this story completely represents the story of my life. Every second of it, the mother being manipulative acting like she was dying (yep my mom) and sadly that’s a type of psychological violence.
The movie is so deep with so many details. I am wondering if you guys are psychologist. There was a moment thar the little kid thought the dog was his fellow. The dog had a cord too. Interesting how the cord was getting shorter as they were getting older. But the most excruciating terrible thing is his desperate screaming when the death cut the cord. And it was a new born baby cry. I saw a new born baby inside of an old body😢
Basically, due to the mother's overprotection and over attachment to her son, they both lost out in life. The way I interpret some of the scenes is that the mother has some resentment. I mean, because her son shied away from her interest, she felt like she couldn't pursue that relationship and, in turn, she kept her son from pursuing any relationships and a life separate from her own because, to her, her son was the reason why she can't have a life, either. Now that she's gone, the son doesn't know what to do or how to take care of himself because his mother never let or taught him.
I have seen this many times with single moms. They sacrifice everything for the child, and at the end expect the child to do the same. They live with guilt toward their moms and if they get married they end up divorcing and going back to live with their mothers, and maybe become single parents themselves perpetuating the cycle. Parents have to learn that more than protecting parenting is about giving your child wings.
he couldnt even live his own life the way he wanted because of how controlled, manipulated and gaslighted he were and she always kept him attached to herself. its heartbreaking that some mothers do this to their own kids for their own benefit, not even thinking about their kids or their future, how their kids would live if they werent in their life anymore.
My mother passed away two years ago and I still feel confused and lost as the final scene displayed, she had a narcissistic codependent relationship with all her children including me, some turned into narcissists themselves and others suffered codependency, it wasted years of my life and my siblings’ lives too, turned everything into toxicity and bitterness, you guys did a great job here, so relatable and hard to watch at the same time, great job again.

I feel like not enough people are talking about the scene where the mother pretended to be dead. The son finally stands up for himself and tries to break it off, and the mother manipulated him into feeling bad for wanting to be independent. That’s gonna haunt me for a while-

Mothers need to learn a lesson from this, and that is when a child gets a certain age, It's time to let go and let that son, or daughter grow up. You can not keep mothering your children forever. I myself have this same problem as well. I live with my mother and brother, and I am 38 year old, and it sucks. I for one would like to be on my own. I for one am 38 yr old and felt that I have missed out on a lot. Lucky for me I have a job and trying my best to save money.

This also exists with fathers with their daughters. The cultural misogyny that encourages men's entitlement towards women's bodies, makes a lot of fathers hating the idea of their daughters getting into relationships. My father is a prime example, he really tried all he could to consiously sabotage my personal life. He is a 5yo in an adult's body and, in his mind, I had to take my mom's place after she died when I was 14, and take care of him and stay with him.
This shows how an unhealthy attachment of a mother and son can lead to sons inability to have his own happiness and loneliness and eventually lack of oxygen supply he was getting through the cord (unhealthy attachment). Mothers should learn to let go of their sons as they grow into young adults
It's not only mothers with their sons though. It is also mothers with daughters, and fathers with daughters (and also sons). It is insane how much the man-babies become "the suffocating parent" to their adult daughters, esp. when the wife is out of the picture (divorce, death, etc.). They tranfer their mommy needs to their wives, and their to their daughters. Ask me how I know 🤦♀️

If you guys are interested I recommend the Canadian animation "Old Fangs" (2009). It's another point of view, and this time, about a father-and-son relationship. Along with this one, my favorite short animations ever.
I can relate to this a lot. But just a bit different. The thing is that my mother let me and wants me to go out, have friends, be independent and all but then it's me, who don't want to do these things as it doesn't excite me. I had best friends before but then they all left me eventually. I can be my myself around her only and doesn't need change myself like I need to be infront of others. I'm glad to have a mother like her. And even if one day she leaves me I still will and can be alone. Because people always dissapoints. This is a very mindful video. Kudos to the creator. I liked it alot. ❤
I think that the cord symbolizes the mother's protection or "attatchment" to her son, since at the first parts, the son was bullied for being treated pike a baby in my opinion. Attatchment is not bad at all, but everything should be in moderation.
The mother isn't over protective but rather selfish and insecure. 🤣 She wants to keep someone under her control lifelong, someone to put on a leash and drag around like a pet animal. She denied him of his education, the companionship of other kids, a girl friend, a wife and a family of his own. I have seen parents who manipulate, blackmail emotionally and control their children lifelong. The invisible chord cleverly used by them is depicted here by the visible umbilical chord. We give birth to children but they are not our personal property nor our possession nor a pet 🐕 or 🐈
So because of moms overprotection they both lost life’s, son didn’t even got married, mom died (because she got old) But I just have a question: why did mom pretend being dead?

This is called as Mother-Child addiction. It can be sorted out with counseling. This happens when: 1- The mother dies before baby gets 1 year old 2- The mother does not let the baby to decompose from her which starts when the baby is 6 months old If you have this problem because of one of the above conditions, I do strongly advise you to counsel a psychologist (a good and reliable one...).
This is incredible and in an animation WOW it has deep meaning tears ran down my eyes after learning how we mothers sacrifice and expect so much from our kids but in the end we should just let them leave their lives and be happy for them but first we need to be happy for us
Yea me too but it kinda sucks that the person who uploaded it to TikTok didn’t even give credit. Now the TikTok has 2 million likes and the one who made the animation does even have 1000 subscribers
My son sent me this video he is 14 years old and I also have a two-year-old son I am guilty of this and I’ve read some of the comments and it describes me and my relationship with my children I don’t know what to do to let them go. When they go away for the weekend to spend time with family or friends I have anxiety attacks I tried to tell them everything to do and I think it’s parenting but in many ways I am very overprotective of my kids because of things that has happened to me in the past and because I feel like if something was to ever happen to them I don’t know if I can live without either of them if there is something that can help me without making me feel like I’m not a mother I would love for someone to help us or to give me some advice
Being an overprotective parent has way more harmful effects than benefits on your children. It will suppress your children from developing normally by discovering this world through trials and errors. It will leave deep, permanent scars in your children’s life and your relationship with them. You can learn about your fears, insecurities and find a better way to educate your children rather than prevent them from doing almost everything. Hope this help.
Your job is not to protect your children forever, but to prepare them for the world. Yes they need a lot of protection at the start, but as they grow older, you need to let them fly more & more. If you keep them dependent on you, you'll destroy their lives, as well as yours. There's tons of literarure on the topic out there, or you go to a consultant / counseler / therapist. Good luck.
Hi Ietta, hope you are well. First of all you don't have to feel bad or think you are a bad mother, you are trying to raise your children and this is the most important. After seeing this video if you feel reflected to some behaviours you might find some help/psicologist, not only for your children, but for you too. You are the most important person and if you are good your children is gonna be good too! Try to focus more on you and what do you like to do than your children (of course you have to take care and love your baby haha) Hope this helped
The cord's just a metaphor for the possessive yet toxic attachment the two have with each other. The lack of independence in either's life leads to trouble in the end. And I got the feeling the mother's long dead and he already sees it himself the moment the last string is used. Not to mention, he was able to buy an adult magazine and got away with it.

This shows how an unhealthy attachment of a mother and son can lead to sons inability to have his own happiness and loneliness and eventually lack of oxygen supply he was getting through the cord (unhealthy attachment). Mothers should learn to let go of their sons as they grow into young adults
Yep
It's not only mothers with their sons though. It is also mothers with daughters, and fathers with daughters (and also sons).
It is insane how much the man-babies become "the suffocating parent" to their adult daughters, esp. when the wife is out of the picture (divorce, death, etc.). They tranfer their mommy needs to their wives, and their to their daughters. Ask me how I know 🤦♀️
“I’m not crying my eyes are just doing a play!”
I'd personally say this is the epitome of being overprotective parents.
Not gonna lie, the mom in this short looks absolutely adorable
Dude Jordan Peterson would have a field day with this lol
This was phenomenal and deserve more recognition.
👏 A wise message deserving millions of views!

This video right here. Thank you for posting this. This video was the light at the end of my tunnel, the spark that started my awareness of the dysfunction I had gone through and today, I can tell you I made it to the other side, where the sun shines everyday and birds chirp in the morning. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Im stil in the process of cutting the damn cord. How can I heal from this? I feel like I abandon my poor lonely mother who has no one but me

Sergiy Maidukov!

If you guys are interested I recommend the Canadian animation "Old Fangs" (2009). It's another point of view, and this time, about a father-and-son relationship. Along with this one, my favorite short animations ever.

Best filme ever made about parental narcisism, not only the mother is, but where is the father of this child? Abandoment is also violence.
Thanks a lot!

Wait nooo, I wanted a happy ending for him 😔
I think that the cord symbolizes the mother's protection or "attatchment" to her son, since at the first parts, the son was bullied for being treated pike a baby in my opinion. Attatchment is not bad at all, but everything should be in moderation.
My sister and her sons. She told them that if they ever got wives or girlfriends, left home, then that meant they didn’t love her
The mother isn't over protective but rather selfish and insecure. 🤣
She wants to keep someone under her control lifelong, someone to put on a leash and drag around like a pet animal.
She denied him of his education, the companionship of other kids, a girl friend, a wife and a family of his own.
I have seen parents who manipulate, blackmail emotionally and control their children lifelong.
The invisible chord cleverly used by them is depicted here by the visible umbilical chord.
We give birth to children but they are not our personal property nor our possession nor a pet 🐕 or 🐈
👍
So because of moms overprotection they both lost life’s, son didn’t even got married, mom died (because she got old)
But I just have a question: why did mom pretend being dead?
Umm, what just happened ?
She's so possessive, poor boy.

Bravo to the people that were inspired and created such a piece of art reaching most depths between the mother/child relationship.

Sadly I have to admit this is me at the age of 44 still with the cord attached to my mom... not good at all
Thats called life❤😒
Who would do that but thats a life hack in reality you really have to cut the cord

This is called as Mother-Child addiction. It can be sorted out with counseling. This happens when:
1- The mother dies before baby gets 1 year old
2- The mother does not let the baby to decompose from her which starts when the baby is 6 months old
If you have this problem because of one of the above conditions, I do strongly advise you to counsel a psychologist (a good and reliable one...).
This is incredible and in an animation WOW it has deep meaning tears ran down my eyes after learning how we mothers sacrifice and expect so much from our kids but in the end we should just let them leave their lives and be happy for them but first we need to be happy for us
Found this on tiktok and am here to see the whole story
Yea me too but it kinda sucks that the person who uploaded it to TikTok didn’t even give credit. Now the TikTok has 2 million likes and the one who made the animation does even have 1000 subscribers
So true ... Many parents are obsessed from their childrens. Sad.

It showed my whole life , my parents did the same never let me go free , and didnt had any choice to remain due to money problems
You should consult a therapist please!!!!!
Try to focus more on you and what do you like to do than your children (of course you have to take care and love your baby haha)
Hope this helped
Making our children an extension of ourselves is about us, not them. To fully love them best - let them be them.
Masterpiece....the message is deep.

A life changing animation! A masterpiece!

A perfekt short film....
Did anyone come here from the RESPECT video?
This clearly represents a mother who wants to hold on to her son forever unlike in most cases, the son would want to rely on HER forever.
