  • Despite the Taliban’s promises of peace and stability, Afghanistan is on its knees. When the militant Islamists took Kabul a year ago, life changed dramatically, especially for women.
Our reporters travel to Afghanistan to find out what life is like under Taliban rule. In a small village in the rural province of Maidan Wardak, they meet Dr. Roshanak. She used to be a member of parliament and always worked to maintain cordial relations with the Taliban.
In the capital Kabul, our reporters spend time with Aisha, who used to work for a UN project and dreamed of a career in politics. Now she feels “like a prisoner”.
They also meet the desperate potters of Istalif, whose business crumbles under the worsening economic crisis. And they encounter members of the Taliban who blame the West for hunger and poverty.
Their return to power is the result of America’s longest war, which started barely a month after the September 11 attacks in 2001.

The Afghan Army had 330,000 personnel and billions of dollars in American weapons and equipment, yet in the face of only 80,000 Taliban almost all of them drop their weapons, surrender en masse, or ditch their uniforms and return to civilian life. Truth is, they had everything they needed to defeat the Taliban, they just didn't want to.

first of all, the first afghan parliament was LITERALLY the most corrupted parliament ever in the short republic period; secondly, Dr roshanak was always notorious for taking money from the govt and the Americans that apparently she hates; besides that, she was a literal warlord, grabbing people's lands in wardak province and things like that

Assalamualeykum from Germany brother, just visited Malaysia last year. Went to KL of course, Langkawi, Camerun Highlands and plenty of small towns because of wedding purpose.
Let me tell you what most impressed me:
I went to a mosque for Fajr outside of KL even then there were 50 people praying. We stood in a small village in Langkawi far from the tourists, even there were 30 people inside the mosque for Fajr.
Friday prayer in Shah Alam left me in tears when I prayed with 20.000 people at the Sultan Salahuddin Mosque.
There's religious kindergardens called "little Khalifs".
People have big families and hold up family values, almost 98 percent of women wear proper Hijab. Even the Petronas Towers where build in the image of two Mosque Towers. In any Shopping Mall or Gas Stations there are prayer rooms filled with people. In the Television they show Qur'an and other Stuff all day around, in the Shops they don't play music they play Qur'an (even in the tourist shops on Langkawi). U feel save even in the poorest neighborhoods. Drugs and Alcohol are almost no where to be found. People are nice and always smiling.

The hardest and painful thing in this documentary is, this doctor is one of our relatives. Served in the local clinic during the Taliban government back in 1990s (the only female doctor in entire province) and then during all this period. Let us not take it to the politics here, but she spent all her life serving to the women - it is clear and obvious that we need women doctors in our society as a Woman in that culture and society cannot tell about some of their sicknesses to the male doctors (you know culture) and hopefully girls are allowed to study and work as soon as possible. Communities requires women, I don't know where them "Taliban" are getting that from not to allow girls to go to schools. Islam and Quran says it louder "Studying and learning is obligatory since you open your eyes until you die to every single human being." The countries they look up to, not what we say - they allow freely women to study, work, and have their own freedom, then why the only country on earth do not do this?

A good example: in hanafi fiqh women do not require permission of wali(father, brother) for marriage but in hanbali fiqh which is in saudi and neighboring countries marriage is invalid without the consent of male guardian
I dont think any non arab looks at them (arabs) for governance purposes after the fall of Baghdad

I'm Muslim and I don't support Taliban. Talibans are extremists. They're the people who make Islam look bad. It's completely ok for a woman to study and work in Islam. In face, it is compulsory for woman to get education be it scientific or religious. The Prophet's wife was a businesswoman. It's not ok to force people in Islam. People have the choice to do whatever they want. Telling someone something or preaching things are ok, but not forcing. Islam doesn't support killing too. However, under circumstances, it's fine to wage a war. I even wonder what Quran did the Talibans read. I feel like Talibans are just insecure, they want to control women in every aspect. So are many Muslim men! But that has got nothing to do with Islam! They twisted the religion in their favor.

They tried to change it in a democracy because it is the worst system except for any other system. So when there is a risk the NATO brings protection with them, that were the rules of engagement Afghani's aggreed with. The real concern should be that women must not suffer from any kind of oppression, whether they prefer to join the job market or like to stay at home. They must feel privileged anywhere they go, and everything they chose to do.

I feel for the women and girls of Afghanistan whose own fathers and brothers treat them so terribly. The reality is that men don't want women to have even the most basic rights because they fear that women will not need them anymore. Look at most modern societies and you'll see that women are opting out of marriage (something created by men) and choosing to pursue their education and career-- and that men are not willing to do the same but expect women to lower their standards. It doesn't matter if one woman claims she's happy with the Taliban ruling. It matters that all women have access to education and freedom to make decisions. Not only will it benefit the women, but their children as well. They live in a society where men rule and it's become the survival of the strongest. Women and children are ignored.

    • @KaauhurK
      @KaauhurK Před rokem +1

The same thing was happening when taliban wasnt in rule, I dont see any comment or any person saying those same words when that was the case. 2ndly taking a small sample out of an immense population is what the media always does. People are literally dying over there for basic needs, men and women. The UN is the one that hoards resources now that they lost the fight in Afghanistan and somehow the taliban are to blame?. All the criteria for the acceptance of Afghanistan has been filled by the taliban. They follow Islam there. Men dont have a say just as much as women if you've ever read anything about that religion. The reason why women are moving away from marriages are because of feminist movement. Not because of "men". Neither was marriage created for the benefit of men it was for women. Naturally men are built to do jobs that require physical powers. Even in this technological age where mental fortitude is considered more important, men still do jobs that women simply cant. Hence the wage and salary gap. A consequence of women "pursuing careers" is your west. I dont even need to say anything anymore. Look at your familial system. Its non-existant. The only gender that benefitted from women going out are actually men. Single mothers. One night stands. No responsibility of children. Easy to complete your sexual desires.
" It matters that all women have access to education and freedom to make decisions" What matters more than this is the ability to have enough resources to live. You never mention those. People are dying over there and the only thing you're concerned about is "education". What did that education do for you westerners?. The highest positions your men and women hold arent because of educations whatsoever, its because they were entrepreneurs. You are lost and narrow minded I hope you find an actual path to believe and go on.

Afghan women on majority wants to hide their faces from the men, don't wanna go out without their male, extreme or lets say radical Islamic ideology and not wanting any significant change in how they live except for their economic situation. The women that you see on TV are in minority, they have adapted these values and way of thinking after 1919 when Amanullah Khan got independence and brought western values to Afghanistan and from then until Americans left the afghan women who have western ideology were in minority and they were always shown on the TV screens as if they represent the majority afghan women. @@Bazzemboi drawing living beings is haraam as there's a hadith where it says making figures is job of Allah swt and not of any creation. If someone does then on the day of judgement allah rabbul izzat will ask him to give life to that entity. How can that person give life which is not at all possible? That's a sin and punishment you know right?. Since photography is also a kind of making figures so it should be discouraged. Yes making photos of nature, scenery and non living beings is totally good and okay. Thanks.
