A fresh look at how to safely decock a pistol crossbow, with three options.

I am familiar with three options for decocking a pistol crossbow, in part depending on the draw weight. Some different dangers are involved and should be considered when deciding which method you want to use.
It is important to note that manually decocking a crossbow is an emergency measure. You should only cock any crossbow when you actually intend to fire and have a suitable target or anticipate having a suitable target (like when hunting). The safest way to release the energy from a cocked crossbow is to fire it safely into a suitable target, unless the crossbow is specifically designed with a decocking feature like some Ravin or TenPoint crossbows, or a Mission Sub-1. You use any other method, including the ones I show here, at your own risk!
