- Renault Megane Mk3 - Passenger Window Repair.
This is a job that has been needed sorting for too long now, so new parts ordered and job done.
This unfortunately is the last job on the Megane, as we have since bought a new car to replace / upgrade this.
Thanks for watching

Whoever wants to try it, definitely take the glass out first. Usually the mechanism works to some extent. Take it down to remove the bolt on the right. Lift it halfway down, remove the black oval plastic cap near left insulation and you will see the bolt on the left. Carefully lift the glass with hands and it will come out. This will make your life much better. Don't forget to use a liquid or spray grease to lubricate the rails well.
Cheers.
Cheers mate the mechanism was so bent on mine I didn't have much luck but if it were just faulty im sure it would have been a smoother process, but I'm all about giving it a go. Thanks for watching and thanks for the great advice im going to pin this comment 😀
I was about to say the same I’m about to do my drivers door today some time
Done mine just now left glass in and taped it up my regulator was twisted at the ball joints so whenever My window got more than 3 inches down it popped out and my window twisted all sorted now
@@WilliamMurfitt try your old motor if you still have it you will notice on the old motor it needs to be put in and the window wound al the way up for it to recalibrate itself I thought my motor was done for at first but thought it will have to do until I get new one and put window right up and it reset itself
@@Handangogarty what do you mean the motor has to recalibrate itself ?.
got a mk 3 scenic to do soon and never done one before.
Thank you so much!!! Sorry about your finger, hope its okay!
Im doing this job next week 🫡 also replacing my sound system while i have the doors of..
Thank you !
You’re welcome, hope it helped to sort yours
Thank you very much. Because of your video I knew how to replace that part. Mine was also bended + ball joint jumped out of the plastic piece at the rail.
I ordered replacement part, which was looking different from the original part. It came with instruction manual and it was shown it fits both sides of the car... I was very sceptic till bolts finally sat in their place.
Don't have expectations to fix the old mechanism - joint was flexing VERY hard in comparison to old piece and pushing ball joint back to it;s place will solve problem just for the moment...
I suggest to brush rubber rails inside the doors. I simply used dry rag.
After connecting glass with the mechanism it was quite hard to move it by hands (electric motor disconnected) I thought something is wrong, but kept assembling everything back. To my surprise - window was moving up and down fastest in comparison with other 3. Which made me think that the others may die soon.
AS in the video - window didn't closed completely. Just lift down the glass till the end and then keep closing still it stops - VOILA.
One more thing - as in the pinned comment - just lift glass down that left plastic glass holder line with black oval cover - you don't need to destroy seal of inspection cap.
Thank you William !
That sounds fantastic. Well done pal
I think you did a excellent job with the vidieo as well warts and all but no boring bits, you skimmed through all the doing a bolt or screw up which is easy and kept all the awkward bits in.
well done fella
Thanks terry, really appreciated
Tongiht i fixed it properly and it is going up perfectly now. Thank you so much for your help and video. Now i have 2 mechanisms for the glass.
Fantastic news,so pleased to hear my video was of help
@@WilliamMurfitt oh yes it was. Me and my 2 sons who were helping me in this adventure have seen and re seen your video maybe 50 times...lol . You are our youtube star and window expert now.. lol. If you have new tips dealing with the Megane. I d be very interested into videos on it under the hood. I m searching the EGR emplacement...to clean it
Btw i
@@bertrandducouedic8621 I would have done something like this, but we have since sold the car and purchased something newer with less miles on. And currently don't know anybody who owns a mk3 Megane
So much self control. 👍🤣
Personally I would have turned the air blue!🤣
Yeah hard to do this living next door to a school and having little ones ourselves
Такая же проблема возникла на моём Мегане. Спасибо за видео. Thank you!
well done
Thank you
Thanks you for your video, from France. I will do the same things today !
Fantastic, how did you get on?
@@WilliamMurfitt Like you and it worked ! Thanks
Nice job. Just had the same issye this morning. Glass is not closing anymore. Will bring her to Renault this afternoon then... we ll see
somebody commented previously to say that the quote from renault was circa £600
@@WilliamMurfitt will see what they say.
@@bertrandducouedic8621 I'd advise giving it a go, it's a pretty straightforward repair and this cost me £50 for the part. Keen to hear what you decide to do
@@WilliamMurfitt back from the garage. They fixed the glass up in place so that it is no more opened. They said it is a 500 euros repair. So i said i will try to fine another solution. The faulty piece is the window lift and they say it is twisted. Just find 1 on autodoc for 50 euros. Will order it and try to fix it as good as you did....
@@bertrandducouedic8621 its crazy the price difference. Glad you are going to give it a go
Sorry about the finger but very useful guide. Would I do this myself. Probably but not today!!!!
Great thanks for the feedback
Got a garage quote for doing that, just under 600 quid. Nah, do it myself lol.
Ouch! That's a crazy price, £50 I paid for the unit I fitted! And then just over an hour to instsll
Thanks for the video have to attempt this Tomorrow mine looks slightly different but should be roughly the same
Good luck pal, its pretty straight forward. Im sure you will smash it (the job not the glass)
brilliant job,, thanks for the info and videos, i have to replace this on my daughters mk 3 scenic but cant find any videos on how to do it, just hope its something like what you have just done on your Magane..
Thank you very much, I'm pretty sure they will be similar if not the same
Hi! I have a fluace almost the same door ,solved it whitout replacement needed.
But there are several litle white plastic pins on the carpit side wich allways brakes when im treieing to put the door back togather. And when i disassamble the door to replace them, i brake even more, done this now several times and i cant put it togather whitout brakeing them. This way i have gaps between the carpet and the metal side and when i grab the door from inside to close it, its loose a bit. Any advice? I broke now like 10 pins and geting a bit pissed.
Maybe search for a better quality clip, cheap and cheerful ones are made of poor quality plastic and do brake, in theory once aligned they should just pop together and you have no issue. Maybe before pushing the panel double/triple check alignment
These are actually not known for window faults like the older ones, these use a proper regulator not cables like all the past renaults.
A lot of renaults of this age suffer with windows my clio also has window issues and ive seen online for more people having issues with renaults than any other manufacturer.
French electrics say no more 🤣
Excellent video William, very detailed. :) could you tell us how is the window fixed on the lifter ?
It is bolted from memory to the regulator
i have a 2009 Megane Coupe 1.5dci, it's a mk 3 (the early mk 3 not the newer shape mk 3) same as yours, i hit a flooded part of the road (not deep but at speed) which made the engine stop, i pushed the car to the side of the road but would not start at all, after getting towed home i replaced the battery and after half hour of spitting and farting it eventually started and now runs fine - problem is i have no power going to my drivers door, no electric window, no electric mirrors and the small light at the bottom of the door that lights up when door opens is dead too, passenger window works but only using passenger door switch - passenger window switch on drivers door is dead, central locking works ok, glove compartment fuse for drivers window is ok too. i thought relay but why mirrors dead? and no door light? it's driving me insane
Have you checked the plugs and wiring? To the door? I would almost suggest there seems to be an issue isolated to that door
Did you fix it?
great, I did not understand what you were saying because I am French but it does not matter because your video speaks. it hurts a screwdriver !!!! I hope you won't have to do it again because you struggled.
Hello, i hava a big problem , at the door of the drive I hear a noise at the window when I drive the car . What can I do ?
Noise as in the motor going around?
Is it when the button is pressed or all the time?
@@WilliamMurfitt All the time, is a noise as a glass is broken, it's a sound that sounds like rain on the window.... only at the door of the drive ....
@@georgianaoprea6818 thats very odd, recommendation would be to remove the door card and visually inspect.
@@WilliamMurfitt Thank you very much,have a great day !
@@georgianaoprea6818 you're welcome
My driver side window has been giving me issues (goes down fine, but struggles to go up, have to tug with my hand to get it up). Realised that the edge of the window near the front of the car is not sliding between the two rubber guards, but instead it's between the outer guard and the door itself. I don't know how it able to "slide out", but I'm guessing in order to get it back to it's correct position I'll have to disassemble the door similar to how it's done here. Any recommendations? Should I try to give it a go myself, or just take it to a garage? (I have the same Megane)
Nightmare, but yes remove the regulator realign the glass and reassemble. Personally id give it a go take your time and it will save you lots of money
Did you fix it?
@@jonasandersson596 i did actually! It wasn’t easy but I was able to manage
Alright mate, im having problems with driver side, think window has popped out of regulator on a frozen day. Is mounting the window back in east enough? Cheers
From memory the lower window runner is bolted to the regulator. Maybe easier to remove everything to assess any additional damage before refitting. Its a fiddly job but take your time
@@WilliamMurfitt cheers mate
Good job, you are amazing
Thank you for your kind words pavlo pastushenko
I also have a problem with the megane 3, with the driver side window.. After a couple of times running it up and down it just stops working and it will only be able to close. After that it won't work for a minute or 2 and then that it starts working again. I thought it's the window motor, I replaced it with one from the scrapyard and the problem persists. Do you have any idea what the problem might be? I thought the old window motor overheated, but the new one does exactly the same. It seems it's a protection when there's a signal that it overheats it shuts the motor down. It drives me nuts..
To be honest I genuinely hate electronics and the gremlins surrounding, there could be a number of issues, runners, regulator, motor, switch. Unfortunately replacing with used parts these may also have the same issue. My clio has all new parts and the drivers window still wont work! Does my head in
@@WilliamMurfitt Yea, true.. And Renault still has a bad image from the past when the electronics went haywire in most of the previous Megane models (especially Megane 2).. I've recently also replaced the drivers door lock because that one decided to lock only once per ten times when I hit the lock button on the remote.. ( but I fixed that, the lock is brand new though) I wonder if it was a smart choice to go for Renault, even though people say they ihave mproved alot.. I'm not so sure.. At least the car always starts and engine issues are not so often.. So thats a plus point. Greetings from your neighbour, Holland.
best video
Thank you sir 🙏
Where did you buy the part for £50 could you please share link of shop so i can buy mine is exactly the same but cant find right part.
It was an ebay purchase i think from a breakers yard
Euro car parts sells them for £101 but on offer at the moment for £65. Had to buy both sides today.....
Where did you get that part? And what tools you used it? Thanks
Hey, the part was from ebay snd the tool i think is just called a trim tool. I bought it off a tool van back when i did my apprenticeship its been very handy
@@WilliamMurfitt can you send me link mine has same issue with mechanical left bent and window couldn't close properly
Ahahahah demise at 18:00
Thanks
Nice job, next time you'll better use working gloves
thanks, more than likely not, and the pain is almost 100% going to happen again
From what you just showed us at timestamp 06:28, the motor isn’t faulty, it just needs calibrated.
See what I mean on this video here…
czcams.com/video/oU3b0fZtVdg/video.html
The motor may well have just required recalibration however, the regulator was destroyed
